Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Increasingly we're seeing heatwave conditions as temperatures peak above 25 degrees Celsius in the north, above 30 degrees Celsius in the south.
00:14High pressure remains in charge and an influence from the near continent where France as well as Spain and Portugal experiencing high heat here and heatwave conditions.
00:24Now through Thursday there's a chance of some sharp showers which could be impactful particularly across Scotland.
00:30The distribution is somewhat uncertain at the moment, I'll show you some more details on that in a moment but certainly the heat extends through into the latter part of the week.
00:40And through this evening it's clear skies across many areas, maybe a little bit of low cloud lapping along the shoreline of South Wales, the west country, southern parts of England and also across the far northwest where we could see low cloud here.
00:53One or two showers moving northwards, certainly some showers reserved for the southern part of Shetland as temperatures hold around 15 in the north, so a mild night and then a warm one in the south is going to be muggy and uncomfortable for some.
01:09First thing then tomorrow morning, you may find more cloud first thing across more southern and western areas of England and Wales.
01:16Clearer skies elsewhere, some sunshine on offer.
01:18For Northern Ireland, it's another fine day and a very warm one but notice some low cloud near the North Channel.
01:24So here you could see some low cloud first thing, it will burn back as it will do so across the Outer Hebrides.
01:30Through the day a few fleeting showers for Shetland, Orkney and Caithness and notice one or two showers just migrating northwards through the latter part of the day across central southern England as well as the home counties.
01:43For most though, it's a dry one, it's a bright one with some strong sunshine and feeling hot.
01:48Look at this, highest temperatures probably eastern counties of England.
01:52Here we could see a peak value of around 32 to perhaps even 34 degrees Celsius.
01:57Across Scotland, 27 for the central belt and for Northern Ireland, 25, 26 helped with that sunshine.
02:03Now for Wales, it's really mid-Wales, eastern parts of Wales seeing temperatures into the 30s and the mid-20s further south.
02:11Bit of a breeze down towards the far southwest.
02:13Generally speaking though, it's a very warm end to the day, if not a hot one.
02:18Now notice these showers continue to migrate northwards and clear eastern counties through Wednesday evening.
02:25Some will blossom also across southern parts of Scotland and gradually track northwards.
02:30So some showers in the mix as we head into the early hours of Thursday morning.
02:35And Thursday dawns like this, there'll be a little bit more on the way of cloud around.
02:40Yes, some showers which could turn heavy, particularly across Scotland.
02:44And we could see some quite torrential downpours if you catch one with the risk of thunder.
02:50Brighter skies across central and eastern areas of England, but cloud never too far away.
02:55And that cloud will just come and go through the day as it drifts eastwards through the morning into the afternoon,
03:01with some showers developing across Wales and northern England.
03:05And we continue with a scattering of heavy but infrequent showers across Scotland.
03:11For Northern Ireland, it's a fine day, a mix of cloud and sunshine.
03:15And here, temperatures 22, 23.
03:17Yet again, there's a chance of seeing a 30 somewhere across eastern counties, depending on sunshine amounts.
03:23Generally speaking, we're seeing temperatures reach almost to the mid-20s across Scotland and the high-20s across England and Wales.
03:31So feeling very warm after a muggy night, another uncomfortable one.
03:36And those temperatures extend into Friday as well.
03:40Yet again, on Friday, there will be a risk of those showers and the cloud comes and goes.
03:46Certainly, you'll see that overnight Thursday into Friday for Scotland.
03:50A little cloud, maybe some mist and fog patches further south as well.
03:54And a bit of a breeze coming down that eastern side on Friday morning with low cloud shrouding the hills as well as the mountains and the coastline.
04:03But Friday across England and Wales will be sunny.
04:06We'll see that cloud breaking at times across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland.
04:10So some fine weather coming through and one or two showers just clustering over the hills and mountains in the north.
04:17Now, here are your temperatures through Friday.
04:20Yet again, we'll see values reaching into the 30s towards the southeast.
04:24Generally speaking, the low to mid-20s.
04:27So for some, that heat wave continues into the latter part of the week.
04:31I'll see you later.
04:32I'll see you later.
