Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04After a very dull October, November has started on a wet note for some.
00:09Some high rainfall totals through the last 48 hours across Cumbria
00:13and now we have rain warnings for southern parts of Wales and the West Country.
00:17So if you are driving through this evening and overnight,
00:19please note there could be some heavy rain out there causing problems on the roads
00:23with spray, poor visibility and surface water issues.
00:26A succession of weather fronts continues to push northwards into Wednesday morning
00:31so that rain does extend northwards.
00:33The breeze will always be a feature of the weather, mixing the air up
00:36so a mild night away from the far north of Scotland.
00:39And through tomorrow we will continue to see showery bursts of rain
00:42but also some brighter breaks coming through particularly towards the east there.
00:46But low pressure always dominant, always affecting our weather through the next few days.
00:51So let's pick up on that heavy rain through this evening.
00:53The West Country, central southern England, the Midlands, Wales
00:56and also low clouds shrouding the hills with some patchy rain
01:00across southern parts of Scotland, northern England.
01:03Notice some clearer skies, the west of Northern Ireland towards Highlands
01:07with showers across Caithness, Orkney, one or two clipping Shetland
01:11as well as the Outer Hebrides.
01:14So all of this rain is moving northwards and taking within that low cloud as well.
01:19So some heavy pulses of rain through this evening pushing towards northern England.
01:23You can see filaments of rain just extending from Belfast, pushing northwards
01:27and eventually reaching the central belt of Scotland.
01:30The breeze will keep temperatures up even though you'll see dry skies,
01:33even some starry skies across eastern counties of England.
01:35But more rain through the early hours of the morning across the West Country,
01:40Wales, northern England, northern Ireland pushing up towards the central belt of Scotland.
01:45Clearer skies through the early hours of the morning across the far north of Scotland
01:48will allow for temperatures to drop.
01:50So a chilly start to the day here, but a wet one if you're stepping out first thing
01:55on Wednesday morning across many parts.
01:57Temperatures holding up 11 to 13 across most parts of the country,
02:01but perhaps only four or five across the far north and northwest of Scotland.
02:05So a bright start to the day here with some sunshine, some dry weather.
02:09Notice a mix of clouds and some brighter breaks across eastern counties.
02:12But this heavier band of rain will affect the central belt of Scotland,
02:17pushing up towards the highlands as we head through the morning.
02:21More rain just across Irish seacoast, northern counties of England,
02:24as well as Northern Ireland.
02:26But through the afternoon, notice across central and eastern areas of England,
02:29you'll see some drier skies and some drier skies attempting to move in across the West Country.
02:34But a legacy of cloud here with some sherry bursts for Wales
02:37and certainly some more persistent rain,
02:39which will eventually reach the far north of Scotland.
02:42Hanging on to drier weather until probably much later on in the day across Shetland.
02:48So through the afternoon, this is where the rain is across more northern areas.
02:52But a mix of clouds and some clearer skies further south.
02:56And where the clouds are thick enough, the odd spot or two of rain can't be ruled out.
02:59Look at the temperatures.
03:00We could see a 17 towards the southeast of England,
03:0315 for Northern Ireland, 16 for Wales.
03:05But across the far north of Scotland, yes, you'll see probably only 11 or 12.
03:10Bonfire evening.
03:11If you are enjoying some fireworks, remember there will be a fair amount of cloud,
03:15but mostly dry skies across England and Wales.
03:18As I said, though, some damp conditions just coming and going,
03:21bits and spots of rain in the breeze.
03:23But it will be a mild bonfire night this year.
03:27Certainly, temperatures only holding around, I'd say, 14 or 15 degrees Celsius
03:31for much of England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Southern Scotland.
03:35Further north, though, outbreaks of rain possible across southern Scotland.
03:40Central belt for Northern Ireland.
03:42Yes, yet again, that cloud could produce the odd spot or two of rain.
03:45And a stronger wind for the far north of Scotland,
03:47with that persistent rain reaching Shetland through the evening time.
03:51And that rain extending down towards Sutherland, as well as the northwest highlands there.
03:56Now, through Wednesday evening and overnight, again, showery bursts of rain,
04:01particularly towards the west, clipping Wales, the west country,
04:04as the rain comes confined to the far north of Scotland.
04:07This rain will extend towards Northern Ireland through rush hour on Thursday.
04:12So if you are stepping out, you may find some wet weather towards the west there for Northern Ireland.
04:17A lot of cloud generally through Wednesday, but the cloud will attempt to break up at times,
04:21even for central and eastern areas of Scotland, where you could see some brighter breaks.
04:26And certainly some brighter weather tempting to come through during the afternoon
04:30for Wales, the Midlands, the west country, and northern counts of England.
04:33At the same time, this swirl of cloud, some stronger winds and outbreaks of rain
04:38affecting western parts of Scotland.
04:40So the weather remains fairly messy through the latter part of Thursday.
04:43And we could see a bit more rain also for Northern Ireland and central parts of Scotland.
04:48So here are your temperatures through Thursday afternoon, coming in 15 or 16 for Scotland,
04:5314 for Northern Ireland, even higher though for England and Wales.
04:58For more details, check out our deep dive.
05:00Take care, enjoy bonfire night if you are out and about.
05:03Remember, the weather remains mild until we head into the latter part of the week.
05:07I'll see you later.
