Transcript
00:00The Office of the Attorney General has launched an investigation into the past management of the long-standing extradition request from the United States for former FIFA Vice President Jack Warner.
00:13The review specifically targets how the Office and previous Attorney General under the past PNM administration handled the request.
00:22Warner is wanted by the United States on charges of wire fraud, racketeering, money laundering and bribery stemming from alleged corruption during his tenure as a high-ranking official in FIFA and CONCACAF.
00:37The revelation of the investigation came to light through British Attorney Robert Strand during Tuesday morning's proceeding before Justice Karen Reed in a constitutional claim brought by Warner challenging his extradition.
00:52This probe was initiated after questions were raised by Warner's legal team concerning an alleged, but now missing, agreement between the U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago regarding the specific criminal charges Warner would face if extradited.
01:09Stran, who recently took over as lead counsel for the state and the matter, acknowledged that Warner's legal team, spearheaded by senior counsel Farad Hussain, had raised legitimate questions concerning this purported agreement.
01:23He conceded that although the Attorney General's office had previously asserted the existence of the agreement document, which supposedly outlined the specific criminal charges Warner would face in the U.S. upon extradition, it later admitted its inability to locate the agreement, suggesting its possible non-existence.
