00:00A full-fledged police investigation is to be initiated into the leaked audio recording
00:05purportedly between two women that allegedly was an intercepted phone communication that
00:10found its way on social media last week. Confirmation of the investigation came today
00:15from Police Commissioner Alistair Guevara in a TTPS media release. Though Guevara stopped
00:20short of naming names and identifying anyone, in the last few days there was a leaked audio
00:25recording purportedly between Star Sabga and Genevieve Hadid that was supposedly an intercepted
00:31conversation. Guevara acknowledged the seriousness of the matter and its direct implications for
00:36national security, stating he has, open quote, ordered an immediate investigation to be spearheaded by
00:42Assistant Commissioner of Police Andy Tiwari to determine the authenticity of the recording,
00:48whether it constitutes any communication lawfully intercepted under the act and if authentic the
00:54circumstances under which it entered the public domain, close quote. Guevara stated that under
01:00the Interception of Communications Act chapter 1508, communications may only be lawfully intercepted
01:06pursuant to section 6.2 or section 8 of the act. The Commissioner reminded the national community
01:12that the act expressly forbids the unauthorized disclosure of intercepted communications. He stated
01:18section 8.6 provides that a person who discloses the existence of a warrant or an
01:24application for a warrant, commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $50,000
01:30and to imprisonment for three years. The investigation, according to the Commissioner, will also determine
01:35whether any person unlawfully disclosed protected information and whether any breach of operational
01:41security, data handling protocols or statutory obligations has occurred. Meanwhile, Member for Parliament of Aruka Lopino,
01:49Marvin Gonzalez, who made the call for an independent investigation into the audio recording two
01:54days ago, commended the Commissioner of Police for finally breaking his silence on the recent illegal
01:59release of intercepted audio communication. Gonzalez cautioned the Commissioner not to allow his
02:04office to be manipulated by politicians. He said, open quote, the investigators must be prepared to go into
