Oropouche East MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal has broken his silence on the fresh set of allegations he is facing in the Estate Management and Business Development Company civil case.

He points to a shifting goal post in the investigations, further expressing his view that the case is an election tactic.

Alicia Boucher tells us more.

00:00One of the more recent developments is the accusation that Dr. Rudal Munilal was acting
00:05as a shadow director of the estate management and business development company, where he
00:10and contractors conducted cartel arrangements and where entities connected to him and the
00:15United National Congress received substantial payments.
00:20This was submitted to the court in an expansion of the claims made against the defendants.
00:25Speaking at the UNC's Pavement Report on Thursday, Dr. Munilal noted previous calls
00:30by the People's National Movement for him to answer questions relating to the corruption
00:35charges.
00:36Well, Munilal answered the question, you know they changed the question, you could believe
00:43that.
00:44I filed a defence in December 2024 and I'm proud to say I have a very brilliant King's
00:50Council as well, a star boy.
00:57So the King's Council filed a defence.
01:00When we put in our defence, which is my defence, they say, hold up, we want to change the claim,
01:06we want to change the question, but how you could do that?
01:09How you could do that?
01:10You move the goalposts in the middle of the match?
01:13Dr. Munilal gave his interpretation of the developments to party supporters at the St.
01:18Julian Presbyterian School in Princesstown.
01:21They realised their case collapsed, they say, okay, we come in with new allegations.
01:26So when they came with the new allegations, I asked them, I said, but what happened to
01:31the old allegations?
01:32If you come with new allegations, what happened to the old ones?
01:36They said, forget them old allegations, we have new things to do.
01:40So brothers and sisters, their case was blown wide open by our lawyers.
01:46Dr. Munilal also responded to the allegation of him being a shadow director at the EMBDC
01:53when he was Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
01:56So I tell them, why you all didn't take a shadow court action?
01:59And if I was a director, I want my fees now?
02:04I am entitled to fees from the board if I was a shadow director?
02:08They come with this cock and bull story about shadow director, that is unknown to our law.
02:16That is unknown, we don't know anything about that.
02:19But what happened when they read our defence, they realised they had no case.
02:24So now we have to answer that, and I bet you when we answer that, they will come with the
02:28next allegation.
02:30Because they are not concerned with our case, they are concerned with the election.
02:33The Oropuche East MP also criticised the EMBDC's lawyers, saying they sent out an email hours
02:39before he took the platform, inviting people to submit written witness statements.
02:45You are asking people today, what happened in July and April in 2015?
02:51These people have no case against me, they file a case and don't have a witness statement.
02:57And he signalled that attorneys of some of the past officials of the EMBDC are contemplating
03:02taking action.
03:03Lawyers representing them have told me today, in light of this, they are looking at taking
03:08action against the EMBDC on the grounds of harassment and witness tampering.
03:15Dr Munilal continues to refer to the EMBDC case as an expensive political witch hunt.
