00:06the Cabinet held its weekly meeting at the Diplomatic Center in St. Anne's instead of the Red House.
00:11And Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander made an announcement with regard to the new government's anti-crime measures.
00:18This government of Trantobigo, led by the Honorable Prime Minister, Ms. Kamala Pesad-Besessa Essie,
00:26has made it and approved today the absorption of over 800 police officers into the regular Trantobigo Police Service.
00:42Legal Affairs Minister Saddam Hussein said this was a landmark decision by the Cabinet
00:47as he made reference to a promise made by the UNC when it was in opposition.
00:51We have kept that promise today.
00:54The Cabinet has made that particular decision.
00:58So there will be 800 special reserve police officers to be absorbed within the regular police officers.
01:06This will in particular address the manpower shortage we have in the Trinidad and Tobigo Police Service also.
01:12And I say that because that is evident especially from the overtime bill that the TTPS has to incur on a fiscal and yearly basis.
01:22Minister Alexander also made reference to the present situation regarding staffing within the police service as he provided further details.
01:30This waiver of mandatory academic and required entry into the TTPS is to facilitate over the shortfall of over 1,154 vacancies that presently exist.
01:51At this time, the government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobigo is looking at all options available to it for the protection of our citizens.
