00:00And you said there's going to be a strategy rollout plan with the acting commissioner of police?
00:07Yes, so he's expected to be in Tobago soon.
00:10During this time, one of the things on his agenda will be the rollout of the operational plan for the trying Tobago police service for the year 2025 into 2026.
00:21That plan, I mean, he will elaborate more on it as he thinks is necessary.
00:27Senior Superintendent of Police Earl Eli as he spoke with TV6 News on Tuesday.
00:34Speaking on Tobago's crime situation, he said there has been an increase in sexual offenses and housebreaking and larceny.
00:42Well, the statistics are very promising at this time.
00:45We have declines in most of the categories, except two categories where we have an increase.
00:52The most challenging ones for us, basically, are the sexual offenses and the break-ins.
01:03You know, coming out of one sexual offense or one sexual encounter, there may be many offenses.
01:09So we have an increase in that number from last year to the corresponding period this year.
01:14We also have a slight increase in the break-ins from last year to the corresponding period this year.
01:19Murders, however, are down in Tobago.
01:22The one that concerns the population the most is the murders, right?
01:26At this time last year, we had 10 murders in Tobago, with two of them being solved.
01:32At this time, at the present time, 2025, we have three murders and all three are solved.
01:39So we have a decline from 10 to 3 last year to this year.
01:43Mr. Eli added.
01:45The other crime category that is of interest to the population is violent crimes.
01:50That's like woundings and shootings.
01:53And we have a drastic decline in the Tobago space.
01:58The statistics shows a decline from 36 last year for this period to 10, 2025, corresponding period.
02:05Officer Eli said Tobago's need to understand leaving their homes open and items unattended in their yards is not the way to go.
02:15People still believe they're living in 1945.
02:18You know what I mean?
02:19I just want to tell the population that this is 2025.
02:22And whereas you will have had the old concept of tranquility and peace, it still exists.
02:28But in order for it to continue, you are required to do certain things.
02:32What we have is an influx of foreigners, persons that are not originating from Tobago.
02:39And we have young Tobagoans again being influenced.
02:42I strongly believe that they're being influenced by outsiders.
02:46Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
