Assistance is being sought from India for the establishment of bioparks in Trinidad and Tobago as well as the acquisition of sea ambulances for the inter-island sea bridge.

The announcement was made by this country's Prime Minister following the first address by the Prime Minister of India to a joint assembly of the Parliament in Port of Spain.

00:00I'm humbled to be the first Indian Prime Minister to speak to you in this iconic red house.
00:12The head of the government of the world's largest democracy, Narendra Modi,
00:16as he addressed a joint assembly of all of the members of the House of Representatives
00:21and the Senate that comprise the parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:25As he extended greetings from India's population of 1.4 billion people,
00:30Prime Minister Modi said the members of Trinidad and Tobago's parliament
00:35are representatives of a proud democracy and a friendly nation.
00:40Indians are among the most passionate fans of the West Indies cricket team.
00:47We cheer for them with all our heart, except when they are playing against India.
01:01And while some cheered for Prime Minister Modi, having received Trinidad and Tobago's highest
01:07national award at President's House on Friday, there have been views not supportive of the move.
01:13During her address to the Joint Assembly of the Parliament,
01:16Prime Minister Kamla Passat-Basasa outlined her administration's position on that matter,
01:21and she said Prime Minister Modi is one of the world's most respected, admired and visionary leaders.
01:27And indeed, we, the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and the government of Trinidad and Tobago,
01:34expressed our heartfelt gratitude for India's very compassionate humanitarian gift of vaccines
01:42and medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
01:49I want us to remember that when some countries were hoarding their medical supplies and their vaccines,
01:56it was Sri Modi G who ensured that even the smallest and most vulnerable countries,
02:04including Trinidad and Tobago, received these vaccines.
02:10Prime Minister Modi said India provided vaccines to over 150 countries during the pandemic.
02:17Many Indian doctors and healthcare workers have been serving here with distinction.
02:27We are glad that you have decided to recognize Indian medical standards.
02:35This will ensure access to high-quality, affordable medicine for all.
02:40Prime Minister Passat-Basasa said India's status has, quote, the world's pharmacy is well-established,
02:46end quote, as she announced that her administration will be seeking assistance
02:51in other areas of healthcare from India, including a different kind of ambulance.
02:55So we want to partner with Indian pharmaceutical leaders to establish local drug manufacturing facilities,
03:03biotech parks, telemedicine networks, and so enhance health resilience and create high-quality jobs in Trinidad and Tobago.
03:16India has also pledged support for, amongst other initiatives, a Jaipur foot camp,
03:23dialysis units, sea ambulances, most vital for a sea bridge, Trinidad and Tobago, sea ambulances.
