00:00A great show of friendship from the north as the USNS Comfort starts its first day of free medical clinics and surgeries in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:11The partnership that we have here today and for the remainder of this week while we are here is unprecedented. It's been outstanding and we are so thrilled to be here in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:24So thank you very much to everyone here. Thank you to the Prime Minister and her team because the mission would not happen without the Prime Minister's support.
00:33Her showing up is a demonstration of the support to health care of their country and the partnership that the US and the US Navy has with her nation.
00:41Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Basasa, though opting out of embarking on the vessel, expresses gratitude on behalf of the hundreds who will benefit from the free medical services from the United States.
00:55I want to express thanks to our friends at the US Embassy, the Minister of Health and all who put it together.
01:02But I want to thank you, sir, and your team. When I saw this thing, it was so huge. It's never-ending.
01:08And I'm so glad that the people of our country will benefit from your generosity and kindness.
01:13Surgeries will take place only aboard the vessel with 12 scheduled for Thursday and 100 screened in total.
01:21The contingent was quizzed about the long lines and wait times at Napa, where a variety of clinics were taking place.
01:29They're asking about the long lines. It is because we were very happy to access this service. We want to thank you all again.
01:37Yes, we have our own challenges here, but I think people are just overwhelmed and they will come out.
01:43And recently we had the Hans International here as well. We'll continue these health initiatives because our system, as you know,
01:51I've inherited a system that needs a lot of help, has many challenges.
01:55And I really welcome this effort from the United States, the government and the people of the United States.
02:01And of course, sir, I hope you will come back.
02:03Medical services will continue until Saturday. Trinidad and Tobago is the last stop for the floating hospital.
