26 June - national forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there. Following a clear start to the night, we're going to see clouds thicken from the west and outbreaks of rain move in by dawn.
00:09Many places will see a spot or two of rain, if not more overnight, with areas of cloud moving in from the west.
00:17But it will always be drier towards the east and the south, with this initial bout of rain moving through southern parts,
00:25and then the rain more focused across northwestern districts by the start of Friday.
00:30With all the cloud and the breeze picking up, temperatures typically 12 to 14 Celsius by dawn.
00:36There will be some sunshine first thing, especially through the south and central parts of England.
00:41And then really the focus later in the morning is across the Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast for any brighter weather.
00:47And then really that sets the theme for the rest of Friday.
00:49We've got the thicker clouds remaining towards the northwest, with the rain turning heavier and more persistent across much of Scotland,
00:56Northern Ireland, North Wales, northwest England, especially over northwestern hills.
01:00Further south, where we get some sunshine coming through, it's going to be relatively warm.
01:0426, 27, even 28 Celsius in some of the sunnier and warmer spots.
01:08We've got this southwesterly airflow bringing an increase in the humidity once again,
01:13but also an increase in the cloud and those outbreaks of rain, which will be on and off,
01:17but most persistent and heaviest across the hills of western Scotland.
01:22It'll also turn increasingly windy on Friday night and into Saturday,
01:26with the risk of gales around some exposed coasts of northern and northwestern Scotland.
01:31A muggy night to come then, with that humid air becoming widespread by Saturday morning.
01:36And we start Saturday, we start the weekend with extensive cloud.
01:41It'll be low cloud, it'll be covering the hills and coasts in the west and southwest.
01:46But, as the weather front responsible for the rain dips south and runs into high pressure,
01:51it will tend to weaken.
01:52And so, the rain generally fizzling away through Saturday.
01:55Brighter skies returning to the far north, but also the south, as high pressure builds in.
02:00And that high pressure will mark the start of another significant hot spell.
02:06Again, relatively short-lived, just a few days, but peaking most likely on Monday,
02:11with the southeast likely to see temperatures reaching 32, 33 Celsius,
02:16a smaller chance of even higher than that.
02:18And that heat extending across many parts of the country,
02:22with above-average temperatures widely,
02:24but the 30s of Celsius mostly confined to the southeast.
02:28Meanwhile, this frontal system brings outbreaks of rain
02:32and thicker cloud to the northwest of Scotland during Monday.
02:35That then sweeps through during Tuesday and Wednesday,
02:38bringing a return to lower temperatures by the middle of next week.
02:41We'll keep updated, as always, through our YouTube channel.
02:44Bye-bye.
