03:23Why do I have so many boyfriends?
03:26Because I'm young and I'm pretty and I want to have some fun.
03:30They all think I'm beautiful and they love me.
03:34Girls call me bad names behind my back.
03:37They are obviously jealous.
03:39They have to be.
03:41But they don't know the real reason why I do what I do.
03:46My dad used my body for his pleasure because I was his little girl, his property and he could do whatever he wanted.
03:55All my boyfriends use me and I'm okay with that.
03:59I guess I just want their love.
04:02The only way I know how to show love is by using my body.
04:06It's hard to unlearn what I've been through.
04:10Children have rights.
04:12love is by using my body. It's hard to unlearn what I've been taught by the first man in
04:17my life, my dad.

06:10Beyond the Tape will be back after these messages.
06:15Welcome to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host, Mark Bassan. Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago,
06:20and of course, our global viewers. It's day 79 of the state of emergency, and of course,
06:28the biggest announcement came about two hours ago, less than 24 hours after assuming office
06:35as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. The Honorable Stuart Young dissolved Parliament
06:44and, of course, called the election date as of April 28th, seemingly a snap election,
06:50of course, with several months still left under the Constitution to do such.
06:57So a lot of people are going to be talking about that as we're going to be looking at
07:01that and monitoring that in the coming days and weeks as we lead up to the April 28th
07:07election date as announced by Prime Minister Stuart Young about two hours ago in a media
07:14release. And of course, one of the most pressing matters as well that we've been talking about,
07:19of course, is road traffic accidents that have been occurring over the last couple of
07:24weeks with frequency on the nation's roadways. And of course, no better person to speak to
07:29about that than Sergeant Bassan from the Traffic Division. Welcome, sir. How are you?
07:34Sure. Thanks for having us, Mark. Always happy to come and talk about road safety and give
07:39advice to the public. Again, because it's one of the most preventable areas when it
07:48comes to injury and harm reduction, especially in the realm of the road transport network.
07:53And our function as traffic and high patrol officers is to do that. So one is, of course,
08:00manage traffic, but also, like I said, detect crime and deny criminals use of the roadway.
08:07So our operations with regards to road policing continues to be a major part of anti-crime
08:15operations, even into the SOE. And we've had some great results so far. We've had situations
08:22where earlier this week, earlier in the year, in January, high patrol units attached to
08:29the RSU. You know, they had an intercept by guardian building on the southbound. And,
08:34you know, they stopped a vehicle. I think it was 1.4 million in compressed marijuana
08:43was detected. And again, just through basic traffic road policing as well. And good observations
08:48by the officers. And, you know, overnight, I want to say, you know, the officers from
08:56the traffic and high patrol continued their, I'd have to say, extremely awesome road policing
09:03skills. And as well as through intelligence-driven operations, we had officers from the high
09:12patrol task force. They were able, they were involved in a high-risk vehicle intercept.
09:19And when they stopped the vehicle and the driver, it actually revealed the driver was
09:26rolling along with over $10 million in marijuana, which again, under the Dangerous Drugs Act,
09:35is a criminal offense. What is important, again, is that when we have police officers
09:42out there doing their job, we know persons a lot of times view our presence as sometimes
09:49something that is a hindrance, you know, to the free flow of traffic. There's traffic
09:55in our tail area. When you guys are outside there, it's creating more. But we have, you
10:00know, there's no more, there's one transit. No, we have rail transport. This is the roads.
10:05Yes. This is how the criminals are going to move. This is how they're going to move their
10:09contraband. So this is where we have to do a lot of our focus. Interestingly enough,
10:15that same afternoon, well, night, sorry, we had a special operation by the DB High Patrol,
10:21South High Patrol Unit, led by Inspector Jitman Singh. And his crew did some good intelligence-driven
10:29operations, and they were able to unearth a stash of $1.7 million in compressed high-grade
10:36marijuana as well, as well as discover a firearm in the Oropuch area. So they found a Ford
10:459mm Taurus pistol, and again, awesome police work. Our senior superintendent, Traffic and
10:53Highway Patrol Branch, Mr. Gavin Simon, ESP Rampartup, and unit inspectors, you know,
10:59they've been hardcore focus in the team. So we're not just issuing tickets. That's part
11:05of the job. Yes. You know, and I'm sure everybody's aware, when you watch, those you watch like
11:11Alaska State Patrol troopers or the dreaded highway patrol in the States, they are a formidable
11:18force to anti-crime operations in those countries. And it's the same thing in the UK. With regards
11:24to the UK, the London Met Highway Patrol itself. So that's the type of efforts that has been
11:30yielding some good results. So I think the public will definitely see that it's going
11:36to cause disruption. Yes. Especially that value. I mean, $10 million is no pocket change
11:42in the drug world. So I think it will inspire even the other sections, you know, to inspire
11:48the importance of being on that ground and being in the roads, you know, to kind of deter
11:54the criminals from use of the roads. All right. And we're just having some technical difficulties
11:58here. We just want you all to bear with us. Of course, I just want to remind you of the
12:02numbers to call 623-1711 extensions 1996 and 1997. Sergeant Batson, as we speak about,
12:11you know, road safety and when we look at the SOE figures over the last 70 odd days,
12:1875 odd days, I think we're on day 79. We, as you would have indicated, there have been
12:24thousands of road traffic operations. And within that, of course, there are various
12:30traffic violations. If you can, I know you walked armed with your statistics. You can
12:37at least give us a comprehensive breakdown of those offenses and what is most paramount
12:43that you're seeing in terms of numbers and I guess the major, you know, infringement
12:52to put it for a lesser word. Sure. Yeah, no problem. So what is interesting is that when
12:56they amended the Road Traffic Act with Act 9 of 2017, so they moved traffic offenses
13:02into violations, so they no longer move through the criminal justice system. It has its own
13:07system to be dealt with. Don't get me wrong, you can test it through the traffic court,
13:12but it doesn't really carry a criminal sanction, like if you do pay the ticket and so forth.
13:18I'm glad you mentioned the efforts with regards to the thousands of exercises since
13:23the beginning of the operation because for this year, we have 17 road traffic deaths
13:29compared to 23 for the same period. So that's a 26% reduction in road traffic deaths.
13:36And that's the direction we want for the rest of the year. I always say, you know,
13:43when we prevent accidents, we don't know how many lives we save, whether it's through
13:48presence, whether it's through enforcement, through stops, or through education.
13:51And definitely our efforts are yielding that kind of results. We also, I have to say,
13:58without a doubt, I have, just like, you know, we were discussing off air, you know, you mentioned,
14:03you know, you're seeing a lot of daytime accidents, you know, people spinning all their vehicles
14:08in the middle of the highway. We saw damage in brand new guardrails already, you know,
14:13put down by the Ministry of Works. And, you know, the guardrails are road safety infrastructure,
14:20you know, and if not for these guardrails, these things prevent cars from moving from
14:26a carriageway, a salt barn, so a directional carriageway to crossing over. And the type of damage
14:32you see into the vehicles, you know how critical the impact absorption was to make sure
14:39these people survived the crash. And I say that to emphasize people that sometimes
14:44the inconvenience when the contractors are laying down the guardrails, it's causing a backup
14:50to traffic. Oh, God, we've got to put that forward. That's critical to us.
14:55Yes. You know, on the highway patrol, that is a blessing, all right, because trust us,
15:00the consequence when a vehicle moves from a carriageway, salt barn to north barn,
15:05a hundred kilometers out, that's 200 kilometers impact. It is unsurvivable.
15:09Worse yet, if it's a truck that you're going to hit, you're not going to survive that crash.
15:13Right. And that inconvenience will be worth it.
15:16So what we've seen happen is an interesting change with regards to the fixed penalty notices issued.
15:23So for the first time, for 2025, we have driving without a valid sticker or inspection certificate
15:33is now the number one most issued traffic ticket or fixed penalty notice issued.
15:41When we're here, Mark, right, this is an opportunity for us as the police to remind the public,
15:49this is what we're detecting out here. This is the surveillance of what is coming up.
15:55We are begging. This is a thousand dollar ticket. Yes.
15:5960 merit points. Four more demerit points and you lose your license.
16:03All right. So it's a heavy impact. So we're asking everybody, please,
16:07if you know you're going to use our roadway, ensure that your vehicle is inspected.
16:12Now, what's coming up a lot and the reason why I have to explain this is because these are the scenarios that we encounter.
16:20Mark, TV6 gave you a car to make an errand.
16:26Or go do a journalistic interview. Good. No problem.
16:29You then check to see if it's inspected. This is strict liability.
16:33You can't come back and you can't tell me, oh, there's not my car. No, no, no, no.
16:37The law says you as a driver, it puts a burden on you to ensure you're driving a vehicle that has been inspected.
16:44Right. So make sure please ensure that you're driving an inspected vehicle.
16:49I'm seeing you have some figures if you can. Yes. So that's four thousand six hundred and sixty two.
16:55So that's four thousand six hundred and sixty two for the year of persons who are driving without their vehicles,
17:01without valid inspection, meaning it has expired and they are actually supposed to go and get it renewed for roadworthiness sake
17:08before they can actually traverse the roadways. Yeah.
17:12The next one will be failing to wear seatbelts. Four thousand two hundred eighty.
17:15Again, disappointing at the second most ticketed offence or violation because it's what we call a PPE for driving.
17:22You know, and in a lot of cases we're finding if we go down to the micro level of the data,
17:27it's the where the passenger, you know, didn't have it on to the driver.
17:32You know, we were stopped passing, you know, looking, it's too late. Yes.
17:36So please, we ask you drivers, make sure you're you're going to collect that ticket for that passenger.
17:46All right. The law makes it 43 C1 puts you liable.
17:50All right. So we're going to continue this discussion, but I'm going to take a short break and we'll be back.
17:54Stay with us.

20:15Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
20:28Welcome back to Beyond The Tape. I'm your host Mark Basant
20:40course joined today by Sergeant Brent Batson, the Road Safety Coordinator of the Trinidad
20:45and Tobago Police Service and we were just trying to wrap up the major infringements
20:50in terms of driving on the roadways and during the traffic operations and we were at number
20:56two failure to wear a seat belt where the numbers were 4,280 for the year and then the third most
21:04infraction is? Breacher traffic sign and that's at 3,024 and I remember what breacher
21:10traffic sign is. The most, I don't usually popular but the most common infringement
21:18occurs with time restricted no entries. Let me give you a good example.
21:23The Bamboo Overpass, peak hour traffic northbound by Grand Bazaar interchange.
21:30There are some commuters that decide that moving over the Bamboo Overpass to continue west into
21:37Port of Spain is a free fall and open up their own lane. However, the overpass regulations,
21:49especially in that area, that's one of the areas subjected, says between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.
21:56there's no thoroughfare traffic. You cannot proceed straight across. So persons and then
22:02what's interesting, there are two signs. But when you stop the drivers, they'll be like,
22:06but officer, I see no sign. How many you want? We urge you and this is expensive,
22:13there's a thousand dollars. How hard you working for that money? And people say, well, the officers,
22:18you gotta give me a warning. Yeah, but you'll continue to do it. And what people don't seem
22:24to understand is that you end up making more bottlenecks because you have an excessive flow
22:29in the archery for three and four lanes trying to squeeze now into the main archery of the highway.
22:34So we continue to appeal to all motorists, pay attention to your time-restricted no entries.
22:41The same thing happens by St. Augustine, back of Evans Street, Curep, in areas like LZ Maraval,
22:50Mucorapa Road. So again, we're asking people pay attention to your traffic signs, pay attention to
22:56what time you're driving. The other one, number four would be a new one, failure to comply with
23:01permissible VLT 2633 and VLT refers to visible light transmittance. So when we were here,
23:11you were here with me when we were warning motorists and the public that the enforcement
23:18of the windscreen and window tint regulations was going to full effect and that started to
23:23be operationalized since last year, November. It's now in the top four most ticketed violation
23:31in the country. So that says a lot. Now, I want to remind persons and use this opportunity.
23:39You may have applied to the transport commissioner for your exemption. Hey, that's what we want you
23:47to do. But you cannot tint the vehicle until you get the exemption. You don't darken your vehicle
23:55and then tell us on the side of the road, well, I have my exemption letter inside. Great, well, here's your
23:59ticket and go ahead and pay that and when you get it, you're good to go. But right now, you are not
24:06within the permissible visible light transmittance levels. So it's very,
24:11very important that persons go to tin shops that have tint meters and make sure that you're in
24:17compliance. And again, I want to emphasize, if you borrow your friend's car and I can talk about this
24:23because this is what we encounter all the time. Right. Alright, you borrow your person's car,
24:28you can't come and tell it that's not my car. That has nothing to do with it. You're the one driving.
24:32Strict liability. That's the situation because it's a fixed penalty notices. And then the last one quickly
24:38of driving. Yeah, driving without valid insurance. Disappointing. Yes. Right. And and again, that's
24:43two thousand two hundred and twenty-one. So we're really hoping that it starts to shift. But like I
24:48said, when it comes to insurance, we actually we we plan to lobby with Arrival Life that that's a
24:55thousand dollar fixed penalty notice but the consequence is too high. Right. So we think that
25:00fixed penalty notices needs to increase. Okay. Mm hmm. Alright, so you know, we also on on the
25:07topic of home invasions, we want to take a look at something that occurred over the last couple of
25:13hours in the area where apparently five masked men attempted to get into
25:22the property of a 75-year-old man and just look at what the motorist does.
25:26So you're hearing the horn. Mm hmm. Right. And that vehicle that has parked at the top of our screen, I think might be having some difficulty with the with the video in terms of, oh, there it is. It's moving now. So they would have been, Sergeant Batson, correct me if I'm wrong, alerting labor studies intruders.
25:52So he's trying to disrupt that that that crime operation going on now. Obviously, he was a vigilant
25:59person. It will be interesting to see if he saw them go in. Well, well, so so we're going to see
26:05some guys emerging now. Yeah, because I understand that the father would have contacted his son
26:11who came to the location. You're seeing one, two, three, four, and he's actually shooting at the vehicle
26:18five, six, seven, eight. I counted eight men. They're shooting at the person who was
26:25alerting persons in the area to that was on Monday, Monday. So certainly, Mark, we have
26:32seen that. That is terrifying. Yes, it is. But two parts. Right. So first of all, I want to be crystal clear with everybody.
26:40One, I don't know the relation between a driver and that situation and whoever's inside there.
26:47I don't know if somebody called or somebody observed it.
26:53Vigilante activities, right, or things that might put you at risk is something
27:01we I don't we can't condone or encourage. It is it is when I saw him point that firearm at
27:11that vehicle and I'm hoping he cleared that distance. And yes, I was hoping he's a poor shot.
27:16It is it is putting your life at some unnecessary risk at that point. No, don't get me wrong.
27:22I'm sure that the driver's actions had that critical thing of impact to, like I said, disrupt
27:28what was happening there. But we're asking people sometimes people are so fed up. You know what I mean?
27:34You're so fed up of it. You know what? I'm going to do something. I have to do something.
27:39But we just remind people just be careful. Yes. Because those are the consequences that we really
27:44also want to avoid any sort of collateral. Yeah. With regards to these criminal actions.
27:50But certainly, you know that you're seeing a uptick in home invasion, especially a lot of
27:56these perpetrators are targeting elderly persons. They know where they're living. And we want to
28:02also be mindful of the fact and at least make people aware that when you're going to the bank
28:07and all these things, be observant of who's looking at you going and coming to these establishments.
28:12Look in your rearview mirror when you're going home. If you see something strange, pull aside.
28:16By all means, Mark. Stop in a public place. By all means. Because a late person is one of the most
28:22effective deterrents. And when we say late, you made a great point regarding the vulnerability
28:27of some of these crime victims. So be a neighbor's keeper, right? If you know, you know,
28:34the person's pensioners, you know, sometimes you know what day they collect pension. You know,
28:38sometimes when it's becoming, what's the checkup on them at night? Check up on them. Yes. You can
28:44still formal neighborhood watch groups. We know crime stoppers actually has activity to encourage
28:50neighbors and so forth. They use an air horn system, I believe. And it has been pretty effective.
28:56So we encourage that. You mentioned your lateness and the bank movements because we we continue to
29:02see reports like that even in the morning reports as well. Please, if you're going to withdraw cash
29:09from a bank, as you correct, 100% situational awareness going back to your vehicle, preferably
29:15if someone can pick you up so that when you exit that bank, you could jump into the vehicle
29:20and move off. That would be great. But there's the other point, your end point, your end point
29:25can't be, well, I just put $30,000 underneath the front seats and now I'm going to the mall.
29:31That is no way acceptable in the current climate. And it's unfortunate I have to say that.
29:38But we're trying to reduce the opportunity, the crime opportunity, these people. And you could
29:45have a big impact just doing these small things. All right. We're hopeful we'll take your calls
29:50when we get back after this break. Stay with us.

33:05Sergeant Brent Batson, Road Safety Coordinator of the Trinidad and Tobago
33:09Police Service, since we just about got our technical kinks ironed out. We have a caller
33:15on the line. Caller, good evening. Good evening, caller. Yes, good evening. I have a comment and
33:23a question. Go ahead. The comment is that on Fifth Street in Barterra, that runs parallel
33:34with the priority bus route, there's a growing problem that is going to cause serious accident
33:42where people are driving mostly west to east on Fifth Street, make a right turn on Sixth Avenue.
33:52There's a sign that shows no left turn and no right turn at that intersection, and people are
33:59making a left turn across the priority bus route on Sixth Avenue, and they're also making a right
34:07turn on Sixth Avenue as a daily affair. And twice I almost get swiped at that intersection,
34:15and people are feeling that they have a right to do it. And I have seen police officers around
34:21when it is being done, and they don't stop them, they don't call them, they don't put on their
34:27tires, nothing. So people believe that they are correct in what they are doing.
34:32And that is a serious accident waiting to happen. Because sometimes the unmarked police cars make
34:39the left turn onto the priority bus route. And unsuspecting people apparently must feel that
34:44because they see those unmarked vehicles, that they could also do it. So they're not
34:48paying attention to the other friends. That is my comment. Considering the question, Sergeant,
34:55if you get an accident anywhere in Trinidad, but absolutely not in Port of Spain,
35:02how do you acquire a police report if you recognize the insurance is not giving you a police report?
35:10Okay, good. So just two things. One, I want to say thanks for bringing this
35:16area of concern to our attention. To tell you how serious it is, Kola, we actually have
35:23a police vehicle that was hit by a vehicle that made that same illegal turn that you're talking
35:28about, that happened a couple weeks ago. So what I can promise you is that we are at the
35:36Traffic and Hypertrool Branch, we have a special operations team, Koliwood Waste Surveillance Unit,
35:41that can do what we call problem-oriented policing to these type of situations. And we will pay
35:49some special attention to that area, even if it has to be covertly. But I'm pretty sure this crew
35:56does not give warnings, all right? So they're going to be out there enforcing. With regards to
36:01the road traffic accident report, once you are involved in that road traffic accident,
36:08so usually the district investigating stations, for example, if it happened in the Barataria
36:13district and you're the, whether or not you're one of the drivers, yeah, of the vehicle, whether
36:20or not right or wrong, it doesn't matter, the report was made to the station, you pay $50 and
36:25you get your report. Now the report itself, it may take sometimes two to three weeks, depending
36:33on how busy the station is, I'm going to be honest with you, right? And that part could be frustrating.
36:38Even if the insurance paid to get it, like I said, that's the insurance that you, as the,
36:46whether or not you're the driver, you're the person involved, you can pay and also access that information
36:51as well, yeah? All right, I hope we answered your call, sorry, your questions, caller. And of course
36:59we wanted to just go back and take a look at the statistics for the state of emergency,
37:04day 79, so thus far number of operations 3,959, priority offenders targeted 2,820, searches
37:13conducted 27,689, traffic operations 3,501, total persons arrested 3,046, traffic offenses detected
37:2513,764, and of course Sergeant Batson give you a breakdown of the top five, firearms recovered
37:32154 to date, amputation recovered 3,440, dangerous drug seized thus far without seizure overnight,
37:42435,859 grams of cannabis, 3,170 grams of cocaine, 80.83 grams of ecstasy,
37:528 grams of Xanax, 6.5 grams of ammoli, and 5 grams of crystal meth, and as we did talk about
38:01the traffic offenses, 13,000 just over, and you give a very comprehensive breakdown of the
38:08infringements involved, especially outside of course of, you know, drug seizures, etc. Of course,
38:15of course, and again, this is what the SRE gives us the ability, like I said, to use the
38:21intelligence, go after certain, you know, criminals where necessary, but more importantly,
38:28just our presence on the road map is a key part of criminal deterrence. Whether it's through
38:35speed enforcement, it might be a DUI road check, people, it will funnel people through it,
38:41it will funnel even the criminal elements into towards us, but more importantly, you know,
38:47people say, you know, Sarge, how you're dealing with people putting, what you call it, the ways
38:52and posting where the roadblock is, and WhatsApp chats, road spotters, and we don't have time to,
38:57we can't, you can't fight that, Mark, right? What we do is make it
39:05more difficult to confirm if we're there or not, because the police sometimes will go on
39:10and post areas that we're not. Right. Yeah, so we can play the game too. It's a good conclusion.
39:15I'm just letting you know. And two, we also make our traffic stops a little bit more efficient,
39:22you know, whereas before, it's true, roadblocks, it may be one or, you know, we move static for
39:27brief times and move. All right. Okay, let's take a look now at our headlines.
39:45So those were the headlines over the last 24 hours, and unfortunately, we had a,
40:09another homicide last night at Pashti Counter 84 for the year. Unfortunately,
40:16the shooting of a former Special Reserve Police officer by the name, I think it's Arnim Baker,
40:22at a bar in Curep this morning around 2am. And sadly, we lost Eddie. Even if he's former,
40:32you know, he performed service. So, you know, our hearts and condolences go to the family.
40:37I don't know if there's a suspect in custody as yet. But again, firearms involved. Yes.
40:46It's definitely scourge of the nation, as you say. Again, I want to remind the public that
40:53if you have information, you know, we keep on saying, you see something, say something.
40:59If you do not, there's still a wall sometimes where they say they don't trust people. Okay,
41:04you have many options. If you don't want to give it to 999, you can use 555. That is,
41:09you can use Crime Stoppers. That is 100% anonymous, right? They will filter that
41:15intelligence to us. You know, those neighbors, where the guns are, you see them pulling up to
41:21any morning, and you know, they're not working anyway. Now, what do you think they're offloading?
41:27So give us some information where we can so we can make your community safer.
41:33All right, we'll take your calls when we get back from this break. Stay with us.

43:27It's not a thrill when your speed can't kill.
43:57Welcome back to Beyond the Tip. I'm your host, Mark Bassan, joined today by Sergeant Brent Batson,
44:01the Road Safety Coordinator of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
44:05And earlier today, there was an incident in the Sembabs area involving an alleged shootout.
44:12And within minutes of that shootout, the police, it was a drive-by shootout, I understand,
44:18the police arrived on the scene there. And you would see what appears to be a suspect
44:24on the ground there with his hands, I believe, handcuffed behind his back. And, you know,
44:31I'm not too certain whether any other persons were injured in this incident. But clearly,
44:38you know, police responding with such haste was a good sign. And any perpetrators
44:44would have been on that scene, would have been held. And we saw one of them there.
44:49Definitely. You know, you can see from the damage, you know, to the vehicles, the speed,
44:54you know, which they crashed into that wall there, that chase must have been going on. And again,
44:59the officers that put themselves at risk, that's part of our job. That's what we so want to do.
45:04You know, we chose this profession that puts us in that harm's way. You know, so sometimes when
45:09we're out there doing that job, you know, you just have to be patient. If people say,
45:12well, you're blocking up the road, why are you looking? Hey, there's no crime scene.
45:16Okay. This is a crime scene. I know you're supposed to go Mario's and pick up your pizza
45:20or whatever, but this just happened and we have our jobs to do. This is a legal part of our
45:27operation now that we cannot, cannot stop, you know, and we apologize for the inconvenience,
45:33but there's just some things that we have to do and we have to deal with. So kudos to the officers,
45:37the quick response and, you know, having the suspect in custody and everybody was safe.
45:44And that's what we have to do. All right. We have a call on the line caller. Good evening.
45:56Evening.
45:59Sergeant, I have a question. First of all, I want to thank you for being one of the,
46:04if not the only representative of the Toronto police service that wears a body cam. I see you,
46:11you're not just wearing one, you have two. So I want to thank you for being such an
46:15immaculate representation of what they're supposed to be doing. Okay. Right.
46:21Mr. Bastava's situation, I got a ticket about a month ago that I contested.
46:29I was not aware of the technical aspects of what to do on the court date, how to log on and how to
46:36do that. I, it's my fault. I wasn't tech savvy. So I missed the court date. Subsequent to that,
46:43now I say, you know what, let me go and just pay the ticket. And the court, the
46:50TT post tell me I have to go licensing. Licensing tell me I have to go in the court. And it's one
46:56set I run and I run now two even further contest or to pay this traffic ticket. I've been trying
47:03all out to get in contact with you. Because I know you might be familiar with what to do. None
47:08of my friends have got your number. So just by coincidence, what you do program and I was
47:14fortunate enough to get through to you. So if I can get in contact with you that I can speak to
47:19you or you could guide me how to how to resolve this situation. I would greatly appreciate it.
47:24Sure. Well, I will. I don't know if he could leave his number with Jackie and I could take
47:29it, but I still, this may be a situation that other drivers get themselves into. So I just going
47:33to hit some key points here, right? Once you under the system that was built out on this digital
47:39YouTube platform, once you contest on notice, right? And that, that 30 days past from the time
47:47that date of issuance, you have 15 days to contest it, but you have 30 days to pay it.
47:54So you know, you can test it. Once it's 30 days past the systems of TTPOS, nobody can take the
47:59payment because it's not a court listed matter. Right. Yeah. So it means even if you missed,
48:06possibly your matter was adjourned, it's okay. They usually would email you that link for your
48:12appearance. So let's just say you were in a Tunapona court. What you can do. So I want to be
48:19clear because your matters before the court, TTPOS, licensing, enforcement, nobody can take
48:26payment for that. That's going to be decided by the court, by the choice that you made.
48:31However, you can each district for the courts and where the police are. So for example,
48:38Tunapona, we have their judicial support officers that you can contact or even go to the station
48:45and the officers there, the court and process officers will have numbers for the GSOs and
48:50they'll be able to check the system and see, well, if it has been adjourned or if it's been
48:55held ex parte and maybe adjudicated on while you're absent, because they could do that.
49:00And you have to, you know, have a court trying to pay. That's information they were to pull from
49:05you. Okay. But I'll still get in contact with you if you need further guidance. All right,
49:10great. We have another call on the line. Good evening.
49:14Good evening, caller. Yes. Hi. Good evening. Go ahead. You're live.
49:20Is this Mr. Vasant? Speaking. Yeah. Hi. I'm calling from
49:27Kanawha. I would like to speak with you after the program, please. Is that possible?
49:34Okay. No problem. Leave your number with the producer.
49:40Okay. I guess she's gone. So, yeah, surely, you know, it's of paramount concern to understand
49:47the legalities, of course, or, you know, when you're caught in that matrix. Yes. Yeah. He's
49:54an agrarian. Yes. Yeah. Because, you know, you decide that you didn't want to pay the ticket,
49:58then you missed the court date because of not being tech savvy and he admits that. Yeah. And
50:03then decides, you know what, let me just pay the ticket. And unfortunately, now he's been given a
50:08run around. So, I'm hopeful that with your intervention. Sure. And I said, nothing happens
50:12before it's time because he was trying to get on to you. Yeah. He got on here and, you know,
50:17surely you will be able to guide him when you have a better conversation with him off here.
50:22Definitely. Definitely. We'll see what we can do. All right. We're going to take a short break
50:26and when we get back, we'll have more. Stay with us.

53:26Welcome back to reality. I'm your host, Marc Bessand, joined today by Sergeant
53:29Batson, the road safety coordinator of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
53:33and I know you have a couple things you would like to alert the public about.
53:37Sure, well the police seeking the public's assistance for a young man by
53:44the 16-year-old by the name of Carmichael Mascow, 16-year-old like I said, he's
53:51actually from last known address is number 52 McCarthy Street, Santa Cruz
53:55Barrow Road, Maracas and we were really asking the public take a look at that
54:01photograph. If you see him, if you know he is, if you saw him recently, if you can
54:07please contact the TTPS at 612-2470 so that's 612-2470
54:16extension 16,000 1-6064 1-6061 1-6065 so please look out for this young man 16
54:29years old, young male and again his last known address is number 52 McCarthy
54:35Street, Santa Cruz Barrow Road, Maracas. If you see him please contact the TTPS
54:42again you don't have to like I said stop him or hold him, just contact the TTPS
54:47tell us where you saw him or even call 999. I'm sure his family is probably concerned, he's pretty young
54:54he's just 16, so of course if you have any information please contact the
54:59numbers that Sergeant Batson just quoted of course or even contact the
55:04nearest police station and indicate that you have seen this individual you know
55:09in the area that you are, whether it's at a shop, we're boarding a vehicle,
55:14anything just please you know any information they will be grateful and I
55:20know that you also had another announcement. Sure, yeah, today is a
55:29special day because it's a recognition of Social Worker Day and our Commissioner
55:36Police, Mr. Junior Benjamin, you know he put out a lot of greetings here just
55:40just reminding the public how grateful you are, you know we take for
55:44granted persons that provide you know emotional support, psychological support
55:51especially to victims of crime, so Miss Corby and her team and the victim and
55:57witness support units, they've been doing an awesome job even in regards to
56:02providing some EPA support for officers, you know, but yes we see you know I
56:08always tell people you don't really understand the impact of certain things
56:12and sometimes trauma unmasks itself and they have their skill set you know to
56:17really do deep dives to check to see if you're really affected by a situation
56:22and it could be a witness of a shooting as officers, we may have seen a
56:27colleague shot, injured somehow, or it may be just things at home that may be
56:34affecting us on the job, you know due to the nature of the job, the amount of
56:38hours, so they perform such a critical role for you know mental health and
56:45well-being which ensures you know that that type of balance in any work
56:50environment, so we want to thank all social workers not just in TTPS but
56:55across Toronto Legal of course for the efforts and we really appreciate it.
56:59Well I know you wanted a singularity, you know, I know we talk about the social
57:03work of a lot of these professionals across the sphere, but you wanted to
57:07especially mention I guess some of the unit inside of the TTPS, it's doubly hard as well.
57:13Miss Corby and her team amazing, always you know ready to answer the call,
57:18provide support to like I said victims and police officers but for that matter
57:23and sometimes you know people forget that police officers are also sometimes
57:27victims of crimes, all vehicles gets private because gets stolen too, you know
57:31all houses get broken into as well you know, so we're part of society you know
57:37and the point is our jobs are different and that's why it's sometimes
57:42require you know fragility sometimes but you're unaware of how these things
57:47manifest itself you know, so again I just want to also give kudos to the
57:51inspectors of the Traffic and Highway Patrol branch, you know, inspectors Guy
57:54Bessard, Inspector Doodhnath, Inspector Mohan and of course Inspector Jitman Singh,
57:58awesome job especially for Carnival Traffic Management Operations and you
58:03know we look forward to the continued leadership in the TTPS.
58:06Alright great, thanks a lot Sergeant Batson for all the information you have provided today.
58:12Remember we run tonight at 11.30, another repeat tomorrow at 11 o'clock.
58:18The latest on the elections and the election date is up next in the TV6 News, so stay with us.
