00:00Five, four, three, two, one, go down!
00:10The moment in December of 2024 as Joshua Regrello made history in the year that the parliament in July
00:18officially designated the steel pan as the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:23He continued for another 60 minutes after having reached his goal of 30 hours.
00:29Once again, y'all make some noise for Guinness World Record holder, Joshua, Joshua, Joshua Regrello!
00:41Well done.
00:43All right, I close the talk now?
00:46I, um, I really tired, so, I don't know, let, let, yeah, let, yeah, let somebody else talk, guys.
00:53My throat's not talking right now.
00:55Hey, congratulations, Joshua, congratulations.
00:59That is endurance!
01:01I would say that's another thing, but you are made of different stuff.
01:06Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell was the first member of the government to congratulate Mr. Regrello.
01:11As the historic moment was streamed live by WAC 90.1 FM, Mr. Regrello later collected his thoughts
01:20and made an important point of clarification.
01:23The one thing we need to make this validated by Guinness is independent witnesses.
01:29So, this doesn't mean that we are actually in Guinness.
01:31We then have to submit evidence, but we cannot do that without the witnessing and sending evidence.
01:36So, big shouts to all the witnesses and the organization for sending you all on short notice.
01:41Thank you so much.
01:42And as he did something no one else had done before him, Mr. Regrello showed humility in his moment of triumph.
01:49This is not just a victory for myself, it's a victory for everybody that was a part of this from planning to being here.
01:56But I want to just pay, in this moment, pay special mention to the witnesses.
02:01I also have to say thanks to Father Grell.
02:03Father Grell from the Roman Catholic Church came here at like 6 a.m. yesterday
02:09and blessed the entire place, blessed all of us, holy water all over.
02:13It wasn't possible without, of course, God.
02:15So, I want to say thanks to God.
02:17Mr. Regrello later fielded questions from the media, including one on the aspect that for every hour performed,
02:24he was allocated a five-minute break that he could then accumulate, but not be part thereof.
02:31The first break, I went to the bathroom.
02:34The second break, I took a quick power nap.
02:36But I think what is important to mention is the break time that you allocate, that you can accumulate, could add to your total.
02:46So, let's say you accumulate two hours of break, you could then get to 23, start again, and end.
02:55But we kind of decided, well, I decided in my mind that I don't want this to be something that I just stopped and put a large chunk of break time.
03:02I wanted to just show people, you know, what you can do if you just set your mind to it.
03:06So, it was, we didn't do that.
03:08Mr. Regrello had a message to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and musicians in general, but to Steel Panists in particular.
03:15One thing with Steel Pan is that I genuinely believe that we have not touched what is capable of it.
03:21And, like, I mean that.
03:23There's so many things that we can do that we just haven't thought about.
03:27Congratulations were also extended to Mr. Regrello on behalf of the president of Pan Trinbago, the world governing body for the Steel Pan.
