A deadly encounter in Cunupia leaves two dead. Around 5 a.m., police conducting an operation at the Community Bible Church on Persaud Avenue were met with gunfire. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Alvin Daniel and his son Avindra Daniel.

The scene revealed shattered glass, bullet holes, and a trail of blood, painting a picture of the violent exchange. While neighbors expressed shock, investigations revealed the younger Daniel was wanted in connection with extortion cases.

Authorities seized three firearms, and two relatives are in custody for questioning. The Professional Standards Bureau is now reviewing the police operation as the community seeks answers in this tragic incident.

00:00The incident unfolded around 5 a.m. at the Community Bible Church on Persaud Avenue.
00:06The victims have been identified as 52-year-old Alvin Daniel and his son, 28-year-old Avindra Daniel, also known as Indian or Bobo.
00:16Police say they were conducting an operation when they came under gunfire from inside the church compound.
00:22Officers returned fire in keeping with the use of force policy, fatally wounding both men.
00:27They were later pronounced dead at the Shagornas Health Facility.
00:31At the scene, shattered glass from the front entrance, bullet holes in the walls,
00:36and a visible trail of blood leading from a nearby room to the front door, told the story of the deadly encounter.
00:43One neighbor tells TV6 News the father and son kept it themselves but were always pleasant.
00:52He says that the incident took place within minutes.
00:56When we got up to come outside, police sent me back inside and shuttering off and two people dead.
01:02Police reported seizing three firearms from the building.
01:06Two other relatives, a man and a woman, who were inside the home at the time, were taken into custody for questioning.
01:13And while neighbors say they did not know the family to be involved in criminal activities,
01:18they did not critique the police's actions when asked about how they felt about the incident.
01:23Investigators say the younger Daniel was wanted in connection with several extortion cases in central Trinidad.
