A Tobago Security Council meeting will take place on Sunday, to treat with the State of Emergency and other crime concerns in Tobago. This from Chief Secretary Farley Augustine as he held a media briefing on Friday afternoon, to treat with the State of Emergency declared by the Government. More from Elizabeth Williams.
00:00We are now introducing heads of national security apparatus in Tobago and for this particular meeting I've invited the security representatives from both the Chamber of Commerce and the Tobago Municipality and Tourism Association so that we can discuss the market so that the Tobago Municipal Assembly can offer additional support to the security apparatus in Tobago during this time to ensure that it is successful.
00:30Mr. Agustin said he had face-to-face communication with the Attorney General John Jeremy on the state of emergency.
00:38In that face-to-face conversation we discuss the merits of the state of emergency, the intelligence that they have seen and why it is important at this time for us to enter into yet another state of emergency.
00:56But while he supports the measure taken by government he said swift action must be taken and criminals must be taken into custody.
01:04At that meeting I said to the Attorney General quite clearly that they need to use this opportunity to really grab hold of the offenders and it has to be more than apprehending the offenders but this time around it has to lead to or it must lead to successful charging and prosecution of those that are guilty of criminal activity in the country.
01:29Mr. Agustin said he remains worried about criminals leaving Trinidad and journeying to Tobago in light of all porous borders and the absence of a stationed Coast Guard vessel on island.
