Trinidadian dancehall artiste Mascach Emmanuel, known as Plumpy Boss is in critical condition at a Saint Maarten hospital after he and four other people were shot after leaving an event at which he had performed last Saturday night.

His mother told a radio talk show in St Maarten that her son's life is in danger if they don't ensure he is taken to France or flown backed to Trinidad for critical surgery with a bullet lodged in his brain.

Mark Bassant has the details.

00:00Moments after the gunshots rang out early Sunday morning in the Maho area of
00:08St. Martin, the van transporting Trinidadian dancehall artists Plumpy Boss
00:12as well as Meds Boss and others were shot up by unknown gunmen in what is
00:17suspected to be an ongoing gang warfare between seven and six gangs that has
00:22spilled over into several Caribbean islands.
00:30This was a video captured of Plumpy Boss' performance at the Keep Up Night
00:35concert before he left later with others and was attacked by unknown gunmen in
00:39the van that was taking them away from the concert venue. Plumpy Boss was hit in
00:44the head by a bullet while another unidentified person was killed and four
00:49others injured including Meds Boss and a woman. The driver of the vehicle still
00:53managed to drive the van to the airport where police arrived and an ambulance
00:57took the injured to the hospital. Plumpy Boss' mother in a telephone interview
01:01with a St. Martin radio station on Sunday appealed to the country's Prime
01:05Minister and authorities to assist her son. She said her son only went there to
01:10entertain the public and took a chance going into the rival gang area of
01:13Phillipsburg which she claimed is run by the sixth gang.
01:18His mother urged authorities to waive the
01:46restrictions so that he can get proper medical treatment although he does not
01:50have medical insurance in that country and either having flown to France or
01:54brought to Trinidad.
02:24Plumpy Boss is a member of the seven gang that is currently feuding with the
02:33sixth gang in Trinidad. A feud that has spilled over into other Caribbean
02:37countries with Jamaican artist Skeg represented for the seven gang and
02:42dissing fellow Jamaican artist Squash in a recently released song Keep It Up
02:46remix with Plumpy Boss. In that track Skeg said open quote seven to the world
02:52presidential compound close quote. Senior police intelligence sources say the gun
02:57attack on Plumpy Boss is connected to the ongoing music war that escalated in
03:02May last year following three attacks on six entertainers including Wakudan who
03:06was killed in St. Ann's in May 2023 and the failed assassination attempt on
03:11Cayman 6 in October and December 2023. Mark Besant TV6 News
