There's some good news tonight, as the country is celebrating a medical milestone.

The smallest set of triplets ever delivered in T&T has been released from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

00:05A set of triplets having been born at 27 weeks
00:08is the smallest set to have ever been delivered in the country
00:12at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
00:14The babies who were cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit
00:18have now been discharged, marking what the Northwest Regional Health Authority
00:22proudly refers to as a remarkable milestone.
00:25According to the NWRHA, the triplets' journey through survival and growth
00:31has been a long and fragile one.
00:34It is celebrating their resilience as well as that of their family.
00:38The NWRHA says the success represents
00:41the highest standards of neonatal medicine,
00:44advanced respiratory and nutritional support,
00:47and the unwavering dedication of our nursing and medical staff.
00:52But not all families are this fortunate.
00:55It's a fact highlighted by the authority
00:57as it calls the NICU a place of both hope and heartbreak.
01:02As it bears cognizance of that,
01:04the NWRHA says that the survival of the triplets
01:07is being celebrated with humility and deep awareness
01:10of what is an extraordinary outcome.
01:13The authority states, quote,
01:15We remember every baby who has been cared for within these walls
01:19and hold close to families whose journeys have taken different paths.
01:23Their stories remain an enduring part of our purpose and our promise.
01:28This announcement is not only about a medical first.
01:31It is a testament to what our team strives for each day.
01:35Excellence, compassion and honesty.

01:38This time, the triplets and their family are at home
01:42and they are receiving pediatric follow-up care.
01:45However, they have requested privacy
01:47and as such, the names and medical details of the babies have been withheld,
01:51which no interviews carded at this time.
01:54The NWRHA says, quote,
01:57The family has asked that their joy be shared with quiet gratitude
02:00for the NICU team, the NWRHA,
02:03and for all babies who have fought and continue to fight in intensive care.
