00:00Speaking in the House of Representatives, Attorney General John Jeremy Senior Counsel says
00:05parliamentarians came under threat recently.
00:08While he did not reveal the nature of the incident,
00:11he pointed to measures that had to be taken to protect them.
00:14I am authorized by the Commissioner of Police to say that last Friday,
00:20a member of one of those gangs in that community sparked a national security incident
00:34such that all of us in this parliament were protected to a higher degree
00:43and certain officials in the government were given additional protection.
00:51And while some may speculate as to the geographical location of some of these gangs,
00:56the AG has added a bit more clarity.
00:59The gangs are also located in West Moorings, in Goodwood Park, and in some of the other places.
01:13I would not say who are the representatives for those areas.
01:18The AG says a multidimensional approach must be taken to treating with gangs and other criminal elements.
01:25According to Jeremy, the opposition is fully aware of the situation.
01:29As much as they pretend not to know that by now our targets in this war are gangs, criminal enterprises.
01:49And the AG refers to the recent mass shootings in Belmont and Moorings,
01:54claiming the lives of a two-year-old and a nine-year-old respectively as terribly dark days.
02:00We grieve with these families, and we grieve with all of the families who experience inexplicable loss of loved ones
02:12in this community.
02:14For us, every innocent life loss is a tremendous loss.
02:20They are not just statistics, not rhetoric.
02:22They are valuable children of God.
02:25Jeremy states that the government will not stop in its quest to attain peace.
02:31But it has to be peace through war.
02:36They have left us no alternative.
02:40The AG made statements during his contribution to the debate on the parole bill in the lower house.
