00:00You are saying that you are the rightful mother? Yes, ma'am. And what are you calling for? Just
00:06for a talk with relevant information about my son to know what is going on.
00:18I'm being blocked from all information. Miss Ebade claims her son Michael Okubasa
00:24was taken away from her years ago by his father. She showed TV6 News the birth certificate of her son
00:31which was confirmed by the father who spoke to TV6 News from Nigeria. Michael's father who previously
00:38lived in Tobago now resides in Nigeria while the late 18-year-old Michael lived in Tobago with his
00:46foster mom and sister. But why would Miss Ebade arrive now following her son's death? She said
00:53Michael's father informed her about her son's death and she decided to visit Tobago.
00:59Why now? Because I know people looking on would wonder, why now?
01:04Because my son has been taken away from me since he was four years old. I don't have no rightful
01:08information about my son. So when I was caught, the picture that was sent to me about the school,
01:18the Scarberry Secondary School. That is the information I gave the investigator. That is
01:25how they investigated and give me some information about coming here. So I flew from the U.S. to come
01:31here.
01:32And the matter goes deeper. As the grieving mother says, she does not want Michael's body buried in Tobago.
01:39She has since made a report to Tobago police.
01:44Because I don't have a family here. I don't have a relative here. I don't know nobody. I'm just here
01:51as a stranger.
01:53So if he's buried here, that means I have to keep coming. I can just let his spirit just be
02:00here.
02:01She said she also visited the Scarberry Secondary School searching for answers.
02:06Then I went to the school. I tried to speak to somebody for help. I didn't get no help. That's
02:13why I went to the police station. Then back to here. Back to so many places. I've been going back
02:21and
02:21forth for this. So I need help. I need information. I've been crying for 15 good years. No access to
02:35him.
02:36So this is gone already. But at least let them let me grieve the way I want to.
02:47She said she intends to return to Tobago to fight the matter legally. Senior Superintendent of Police
02:54Roddell Kirk told the TV6 News the matter is engaging the attention of Tobago police.
02:59Officer Kirk hastened to add, according to the autopsy report, the matter does not warrant a criminal
03:06investigation. He said the matter is at a sensitive stage at this time. 18-year-old Michael Okubasa,
03:14a 6B student of the Scarberry Secondary School, collapsed at the Montgomery Basketball Court during a game
03:22against the Bishop's High School on February 5th. He was later rushed to the Scarborough General Hospital
03:28where he later died. Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
