The Minister of Heath says despite claims to the contrary, the newly constructed wing of the Port of Spain Hospital will be furnished with state of the art equipment that will improve health care in Trinidad and Tobago.

00:00The health minister, Terence Dyal Singh, boasts that the new central block at the Port of
00:06Spain General Hospital will usher in a new age of expediency and digitization.
00:14He was speaking on the TV6 Morning Edition earlier.
00:17Our system was what you call paper heavy.
00:20We are moving from paper heavy to paper light and ultimately paperless and central block
00:27is going to be opened between paper light and paperless.
00:33Chief Executive Officer at the NWRHA Major Anthony Blake tells us it is a complete turnaround
00:40from the old system into a modernized era.
00:44For Time Memorial we've had persons talking about not being able to get their patient
00:49records on time and one of the things that slows down health care and the delivery of
00:55health care is the availability of your medical files, your medical records and so on.
01:01So what we've done is to start over the last three years digitizing our records in preparation
01:07for the opening of the central block.
01:09He says artificial intelligence will also be utilized.
01:13Additionally, the health minister tells us the revamping of the system has already begun.
01:20If you had a scan in Port of Spain and you went Mayaro or you went Grandi Toco for the
01:26weekend and you fell, Grandi can now access your files from where you originated so we
01:35don't have to expose you to radiation again.

01:41The minister says training is already underway to familiarize the staff with the new system.
