00:00 A bit of a north-south split with the weather today.
00:02 Across the north, some very gusty conditions,
00:05 especially in the far north of Scotland.
00:07 Further south, there's plenty of fine weather
00:09 to be had, albeit with quite a lot of cloud.
00:12 But all the action, as I said, is further north.
00:14 A lot of cloud here on the satellite image.
00:16 You can make out the storm system here
00:18 because it is a storm named by the Norwegian Met
00:22 Service, Storm Ingen, because it's bringing them
00:25 the strongest winds.
00:25 But you can see the isobars really tightly packed.
00:28 It's been developing intensely, this low pressure system.
00:32 And it's bringing some very gusty conditions
00:34 across northern Britain through the rest of today,
00:36 as well as some wet weather.
00:37 Let's deal with the winds first of all,
00:39 though the strongest gusts across northern Scotland
00:41 through the afternoon.
00:42 But also notice across parts of southern Scotland,
00:44 northern England, and even north Wales,
00:46 some lively gusts coming through.
00:48 And crosswinds on roads like the A1
00:51 mean some pretty difficult driving conditions
00:53 for high-sided vehicles, especially.
00:56 So we do have those warnings in place for those gusty winds,
00:59 80, maybe even 85 miles an hour across the far north
01:02 of Scotland, 50 to 60, perhaps 65 miles an hour further south.
01:05 And as well as the windy weather,
01:07 we'll have this band of rain sinking its way steadily
01:10 southwards as well.
01:11 So again, an extra hazard on the roads.
01:13 Behind it, it'll turn brighter but blustery
01:16 with gusty showers.
01:17 And to the south, well, you'll be
01:19 wondering what all the fuss is about.
01:20 Yes, it turns a bit breezy.
01:21 And we may see a little bit of drizzly rain
01:23 over Wales and southwest England.
01:24 But much of the south, just dry, fairly cloudy.
01:27 But we're seeing some sunny spells over parts of the east.
01:30 So as I said, big contrast with the weather today.
01:33 And that goes with the feel of the temperatures
01:34 as well in the south, pretty mild still, 11, 12 degrees.
01:38 Further north, it was milder.
01:40 But as the weather front moves through, it's a cold front.
01:42 So it'll actually turn colder this afternoon
01:45 and feel colder still with those gusty, gusty winds.
01:48 The warnings are in place until this evening.
01:50 But everything does calm down a little bit
01:53 through the evening.
01:53 At the same time, the rain sinks its way southwards.
01:56 That sort of fizzles out as it does so.
01:58 But it'll bring a spell of rain across much of England and Wales
02:01 through the night, clearing pretty much
02:03 from the south coast by dawn.
02:04 Showers will keep going in northern Scotland.
02:06 It'll stay quite windy here.
02:08 But as I said, those winds continuing to ease down.
02:11 With the lighter winds and the clearest skies,
02:13 we could just see some pockets of frost in the countryside.
02:16 Most towns and cities staying a few degrees above zero.
02:19 On to Thursday, and for many, actually,
02:21 it's going to be a fine day.
02:22 Still pretty blustery in northern Scotland.
02:24 Still plenty of showers coming in here,
02:26 certainly through the morning.
02:27 But even here, they should tend to ease a little
02:30 around the middle of the day.
02:31 And many places dry and fine.
02:33 Some higher cloud around, so sunshine could be fairly hazy.
02:37 But generally, a dry and a bright day
02:39 until we see more rain coming into the Highlands
02:42 and the Western Isles by the end of the day.
02:44 And the winds will start to pick up once more here too.
02:47 Temperature-wise, though, we'll be in the colder air.
02:49 It's a cold front pushing south tonight.
02:51 So a fresher feel tomorrow.
02:53 Temperatures close to, maybe a touch below average,
02:56 at 7 to 9 Celsius.
02:57 And certainly, it will feel colder across the south
03:00 compared to Wednesday.
03:02 The rain will continue to track into the northwest of Scotland.
03:05 We'll see further pulses of rain here
03:07 as we head into the weekend as well.
03:08 So that's an area we need to watch
03:10 as the rain could start to build up.
03:11 But elsewhere, just staying generally dry and cloudy.
03:15 More details on the longer range outlook,
03:17 you can catch our 10-day trend.
03:19 That'll be available on YouTube by Wednesday afternoon.
