The beginning of Saturday will see a largely dry and clear theme for most of the UK, as high pressure built from the south. Places in the north, Scotland especially, will be affected by strong winds, as well as rain arriving to northwestern areas. – This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 27/01/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.

00:00 Hi there, good morning. Big differences in the weather up and down the country and depending
00:05 on where you are, it will be very different weather to come for the rest of the weekend.
00:09 We've got high pressure sitting to the south, keeping things largely settled, but low pressure
00:14 still towards the north. Now, these lows are taking a more northerly track compared with
00:18 the storms that we saw earlier in the week. However, a broad field of strong winds is
00:24 to the south of these lows and more especially as we begin Saturday, a cold front is edging
00:29 towards north and north-west Scotland and that's pepping up the winds. So, we're going
00:34 to see wind gusts of 60, perhaps in some of the most exposed spots of the far north-west
00:39 coast, 70 mile per hour wind gusts. That combined with outbreaks of rain, increasingly persistent
00:45 rain in the far north and north-west. But otherwise, across the rest of the UK, largely
00:50 fine day to come. A chilly start across some parts of the south after a clear night, but
00:56 actually, it will soon warm up and feeling pleasant enough with lighter winds towards
01:00 the south and the south-east. And the cloud will build into the afternoon but it will
01:04 stay largely bright and dry. Otherwise, it is a windy afternoon across the north and
01:10 west of Scotland. Gales continuing along with increasingly outbreaks of rain across western
01:15 and northern Scotland. Some spots of rain into northern Ireland, mostly towards the
01:20 west at times as well. Temperatures across the UK, generally 8 to 10 or 11 Celsius. So,
01:27 a little on the mild side for the time of year, but not as mild as it's going to be
01:31 tomorrow. Then into the evening, we'll see rain for a time across much of Scotland, except
01:37 for the south and south-east. And northern Ireland also seeing some spots of rain as
01:41 the cloud thickens. In fact, the cloud will thicken across much of the west and it will
01:46 lower so some hill fogs and patchy drizzle over the western hills as well, but nothing
01:50 particularly heavy. And the rain eases off in Scotland by the end of the night as well.
01:55 Nevertheless, the cloud and the increased breeze across the UK will keep most places
01:59 frost free and mild as we start off Sunday, 7, 8 Celsius or so. But the south-east corner
02:06 once again seeing perhaps a touch of frost with clear skies here. That's where the best
02:12 of any brightness will be, east Anglia and the south-east, but even here the cloud will
02:16 come and go through the day. Now, it'll be a mixture of cloud across the UK, some low
02:19 cloud covering the hills of the south and south-west, for example, that will come and
02:24 go. Some medium and high cloud along for some brightness through Wales, northern England,
02:29 the south-east. Well, we do get some brightness. The wind is coming up from the south and south-west
02:34 and so it's a very mild direction. Temperatures widely reaching the double figures, but we
02:40 could see in some favoured spots like the far north of Scotland before the rain arrives
02:45 and also north-west Wales, so north-east England, 14, 15 Celsius or so, very mild for the time
02:53 of year. But of course, with the cloud and the breeze not feeling particularly pleasant
02:57 and not feeling at all pleasant as the rain sets in once again across much of Scotland
03:02 and Northern Ireland by the end of the afternoon, that rain spreading south very slowly later
03:07 in the day before pushing north once again through Monday.
