00:00He's Mr. Daryl Ryder. Hello, Daryl.
00:02Hello, Daryl.
00:03Hello, boys.
00:05How are you?
00:06Let's start with Mr. Verse today.
00:08We heard you there while Jared Verse was talking.
00:11Is it okay that he said,
00:14I get up and I look around and nobody has my back,
00:16and yes, I have mentioned it to my teammates.
00:19Is that okay?
00:20Yeah.
00:21I think so, too.
00:23I mean, I noticed it.
00:24I noticed it just watching it in my home office on Sunday.
00:29Okay, you know, and I'm not saying you get up and you start a brawl, okay,
00:34or you start doing extracurricular things in response throughout the game.
00:39That's not what I'm talking about.
00:41But, you know, that should have been a wake-up call to everyone, like,
00:45hey, these guys came to mess around today with some intensity,
00:49and we need to match that.
00:52And so, from my standpoint, and I'm, you know,
00:56it just didn't look like the Browns were interested in matching any type of intensity.
01:01And they got their butt whooped in the trenches by the Steelers,
01:05and they took it.
01:06And that's, you know, that bothered me just watching the game.
01:09And that's why I was so hard on them in our YouTube postgame recap there
01:14with Lance Reisler.
01:15And then when I was on with Ken and Anthony Monday morning, you know,
01:19I think, you know, Ken wanted me to make excuses,
01:22and I just wasn't going to have it because of just the –
01:25I didn't like the way they lost that football game.
01:28I thought they had their manhood challenged,
01:30and they didn't answer the bell.
01:32So I had no issue with what Jared Burst said today.
01:35I'm glad he came out and said it.
01:39And, you know, hopefully that game is a learning lesson for this young football team
01:46as they go forward.
01:48You know, when you get punched in the mouth like that, you've got to push back.
01:53And also, too, you've got to stick up for your teammates.
01:55Now, Carson Swessinger told us – I posted the video clip.
01:59He said, hey, had I seen it, I didn't see what happened until the film room,
02:04but had I seen it, obviously I would have had Jared's back.
02:09But also in the comments that Burst made today,
02:12he had mentioned that there was a second incident that didn't involve him,
02:15involved another teammate, and that also upset him that nobody responded to that.
02:22So, yeah, had no issue with anything that Jared Burst had to say last week,
02:26had no issue with anything he had to say here today.
02:31What's the latest on the quarterback situation?
02:33And, you know, I find it difficult for Deshaun Watson to be quarterback this week
02:39because of the timing of the concussion.
02:42It's just – it's not – all these other guys have been able to come back in a week,
02:45but it all happened during a game.
02:47Couldn't you clear, though, Andy?
02:49Couldn't he clear today, tomorrow?
02:51Again, every concussion is different.
02:53Right.
02:53You still have to go through the five steps to get there.
02:56And they're not going to put him back on the field unless he's cleared.
02:59Of course.
02:59He has to be cleared by Saturday.
03:01Okay.
03:02They have until Saturday for him to clear the protocol.
03:04And I am of the belief that if he clears protocol Saturday, he'll play Sunday.
03:10Agreed.
03:11True.
03:11If he doesn't, then he won't play.
03:14I don't feel – and Todd Monkham was very clear in his comments yesterday.
03:20He was very clear about, you know, respecting and appreciating Deshaun's self-reporting
03:27because that's not the easiest thing to do, especially for quarterbacks
03:31and especially after the fact, right, because he was cleared Sunday to go back into the game,
03:36and he did.
03:37He was fine Monday, and then Tuesday night or Tuesday afternoon or whatnot, he was having
03:44the symptoms, and he reported, and they put him in the protocol.
03:47So, you're right.
03:48Timing here, Andy, is tight.
03:50There's no question about that.
03:52But, you know, if he is able to clear, he plays.
03:57If he doesn't, he won't, and Shadour Sanders will start in his place.
04:01What would you expect to see from Shadour if he is the starter?
04:06And is there enough distance between Shadour and Dillon that Shadour gets the game
04:11even if it doesn't go well?
04:15Well, I – yeah, I mean, I think Shadour gets the fourth quarters.
04:20Yeah, sure.
04:20I mean, unless it's just an absolutely unmitigated disaster of epic proportions,
04:26and Todd Monkham has no recourse but to, you know, give him the hook.
04:30But, no, this is Shadour's game if Watson's not available.
04:35As far as my expectation, go out and win the game.
04:38It's just that simple.
04:40I'm not interested in excuses about being the backup quarterback or reps or anything.
04:44He's getting the reps today and yesterday and get them tomorrow, and, you know,
04:49he's got the game plan.
04:51He's studying the Saints and whatnot.
04:54So, no excuses.
04:56Like, that's your job as the backup quarterback.
04:58That's the gig.
04:59Like, it's the same as the starting quarterback except for you're not starting
05:03every week.
05:04So, you have to prepare yourself to take the field at any given moment.
05:09That's the gig.
05:11So, my expectation is that Shadour Sanders goes out there and performs.
05:16Where do you think his head space is right now?
05:18And I'm also just curious what your thoughts were when he was asked about his age
05:22yesterday and he was like, what does that have to do with the game?
05:24And he's right.
05:25So, I'm just curious, you know, what were your thoughts on that?
05:29Yeah, I mean, there's just a lot to unpack with this guy.
05:34First of all, I find it hard to believe that he was not briefed by the Browns that he was
05:40going to get asked about the age.
05:42Okay?
05:43That's a good point.
05:43Standard operating procedure.
05:44We're not doing our jobs if we don't ask that question.
05:47Okay?
05:47Now, you choose how you want to respond to it, and he made the decision to respond
05:52that way, and that's fine.
05:53No problem.
05:55But then when you get asked about the Saints defense, or you get asked about, hey, how
06:02do you get yourself into a little bit of a rhythm early in a game, and you respond the
06:07way you do, you come off as unserious, you play into the stereotype and the narrative that's
06:17already out there around the National Football League about you, and you're the one that looks
06:22bad.
06:23Okay?
06:26It doesn't matter if you like any of us, because that's not what it's about.
06:32And the only reason yesterday when I posted his responses with the questions is because
06:36I did not want to misrepresent the questions that were asked with his responses, because
06:43I wanted to be, that was my way of being fair to Shadur in that instance.
06:47I didn't want to paraphrase any question, whatever.
06:49Hey, you hear the question that he was asked for yourself, you get to see his response to
06:54said question, and then you draw your own conclusions.
06:57By the way, kudos to the Saints social media team for totally trolling him yesterday, too,
07:02with the Tyler Shuck answer.
07:03That was just brilliant on their part.
07:06But, you know, this is, you know, that's all on him.
07:13And he represents himself, he represents the Browns.
07:17And again, you know, I'm not here to be friends with Shadur Sanders.
07:22I don't care.
07:26But, you know, and I think that myself and my colleagues have been very fair and very
07:30respectful towards him.
07:32And I don't feel like we asked him the gotcha questions.
07:36And I also kind of feel, though, there is a part of him that feels that every question
07:41he's being asked is a gotcha moment.
07:44Like, and to a degree, I understand that.
07:48But he also needs to understand that's not what's happening.
07:52Okay.
07:53And also, too, this is your first chance to potentially start a game for the Browns this
07:59year.
07:59And that's the public-facing impression you want to put out there.
08:03And if you have hired an agent, and that's a big if, to facilitate a trade or a change of
08:09scenery, right?
08:11That's what you want 31 other teams seeing.
08:14That's how you represent yourself and the team that you potentially are about to start
08:17for.
08:18That's just not how it's done.
08:19And I think that that's what he needs to understand, is there's an ebb and flow to this and a
08:25way
08:25to go about doing things.
08:27And, you know, it was said to me when I was coming up in the business when I was young,
08:32because it was something that I, look, I struggled with it, too.
08:34So, you've got to play the game.
08:38And he, it doesn't seem like he's willing to do that a lot.
08:44And I think that, you know, whether it's fair or not, you know, it has crafted this narrative
08:50in lead circles about him and how he handled himself yesterday just kind of played into
08:57that.
08:58And so, and again, that's fine by me.
09:04Yeah, the thing to me that's always surprised me a little bit, and I think Shador is here
09:09right now in this spot, sometimes athletes don't understand when they're talking to the
09:15media, they're not talking to the media.
09:17It's not about them.
09:18You know, they're talking to their fan base and they're representing their team, as you
09:22laid out.
09:23And it's an opportunity to sell yourself and sell your brand.
09:27It's not dealing with the 15 people who might be standing in front of you.
09:31That's irrelevant.
09:33It's everybody who's reading the content and listening and viewing the content.
09:37It's not the questions you're asked.
09:39It's your response.
09:41Correct.
09:41And your, that's what matters.
09:43Like that, me asking you a question does not matter.
09:47Okay?
09:47Right.
09:48It's your response and your thoughts and your view on that.
09:53That's what people care about.
09:55And, and, and again, I think sometimes he, he misses the boat on that and he, you know,
10:02puts himself in a position where everything is, we're all out to get him.
10:07And like I said, I don't think myself and my colleagues, I have been disrespectful.
10:12I don't think that we've been unfair.
10:15Um, and, you know, and clearly he views it differently.
10:19Clearly his fan base views it differently.
10:22But, um, like I said, I think we've all been very respectful and fair towards him, uh, since
10:27he was drafted here.
10:28Uh, Daryl, it looks like Deshaun not at practice today.
10:30So I, I would think that that would probably bolt out.
10:33Okay.
10:33Yeah.
10:34I was waiting for, yeah, I had to be careful because we started this when they were still
10:38out there.
10:38We're, you know, so no, I know.
10:40I figured, I figured that we took you away from, I just, there's a couple people out there.
10:44So what does that mean?
10:45And I would think that means Sanders going Sunday.
10:48No, I, I mean, again, uh, as I said, um, if, you know, if he practices tomorrow, if he
10:56walks through on Saturday and completes the protocol, he will play Sunday.
11:01Um, if he doesn't, then it's going to be Shadour.
11:04So like, I, I'm not reading a whole lot into that.
11:06Obviously the lean is towards Shadour right now.
11:08I mean, he could be going to the doctor right now too.
11:10So, I mean, right.
11:11Oh, Hey, listen, um, turn around and, you know, Todd Munkin will, you know, tell us Friday
11:18afternoon.
11:19My, look, my anticipation is he'll get a questionable designation.
11:23Um, so that gives them that flexibility.
11:27Um, but we'll see.
11:31Who do you like on Sunday?
11:33Yeah.
11:33You know, these two teams better than any other.
11:36Uh, he's Mr.
11:37Saints.
11:37I know he's born in New Orleans.
11:39I, um, I, the Browns are clearly the better team.
11:44I think the Saints have the better quarterback.
11:47So, um, I'm going to, I'm going to pick the Browns to win because they continue to show
11:55the ability to bounce back from really awful weeks.
11:57Right.
11:58We're just ripping them up and down, uh, for a lousy performance.
12:02They, they have shown the ability on multiple occasions to, to put that behind him and bounce
12:07back.
12:07So I think this will be a bounce back week for them.
12:09Let me, uh, you had about 30 seconds.
12:13Do over world.
12:14Tyler Shuck over Quinch on Judkins.
12:18Is the Browns drafted Quinch on the Tyler Shuck went later to the Saints.
12:23Yeah.
12:24Um, I, I probably would have drafted Tyler because he's quarterback.
12:30Yeah, me too.
12:30But, uh, but.
12:32As it turns out.
12:33As in hindsight.
12:34But the other thing, yeah, I mean, but the other thing too is like, there's, I'd be very
12:38clear, there's zero buyer's remorse for me when it comes to them drafting Quinch on.
12:42No, he's a player.
12:43Yeah.
12:44That was a good pick.
12:45Yep.
12:45Uh, yeah.
12:46So the, the only reason why I would, uh, second guess that is if, if Chuck continues on this
12:52trajectory that he is on and he, and he turns into, uh, an upper echelon quarterback, then
12:59obviously, yeah, you're always going to second guess that because the quarterback position
13:02is more important than the running back position.
13:05And you're a franchise that's been looking to solve that for four decades.
13:09Daryl.
13:09Thank you, buddy.
13:10Thanks, Daryl.
13:11See you back, guys.
