00:00Hi there. Classic polar maritime conditions for the UK overnight and into the start of the weekend.
00:06That means the winds are coming from the northwest, bringing colder air, but also travelling over warmer seas,
00:12increasing the instability and providing the impetus for frequent showers.
00:17Now, the most frequent showers, as is often the case in this kind of setup,
00:20northern and western Scotland, northern Ireland, northwest England, some hail and thunder mixed in as well.
00:24Gusty winds accompanying the showers.
00:26With the winds, of course, that will help to stir the air up, but it's still a cold air mass,
00:32so temperatures widely in the single figures by dawn.
00:35Best chance of any clear spells as we start Saturday.
00:38Central, southern and eastern parts of England, we've seen a cold front go through,
00:42and we're in this cleaner air mass now with northwesterly winds and good shelter in the southeast,
00:48whilst the northwest tends to be prone to frequent showers.
00:52And that's certainly the divide as we begin the weekend.
00:54A lot of showers merging to give longer spells of rain in the north and west of Scotland.
00:58Again, accompanied by strong, or even for some exposed coastal parts, gale force winds.
01:03So, an unsettled, lively day in the far north and northwest.
01:08Showers easing a little through the day elsewhere, but one or two trickling their way down to the southeast.
01:13So, not entirely dry in the southeast, but any passing showers will be short-lived.
01:20And in between, there'll be blue skies with slightly lighter winds in the south by the end of the day.
01:26It's not going to feel too unpleasant in the sunshine, but 16 degrees or so, a little lower than the
01:31last couple of days.
01:32In the north and northwest, feeling on the cold side with that brisk wind, 11 to 13 Celsius.
01:38Now, Saturday night, it takes some time before the showers ease.
01:42There'll still be one or two coming through from time to time, even into the early hours.
01:47But by the end of the night, they're mostly affecting northwestern exposed coasts.
01:52Decent clear spells towards the east and the south.
01:55And with lighter winds, it's going to be a cold night.
01:58I think widely single figures.
02:00And in some sheltered parts, low single figures.
02:03And for some particularly prone rural hollows, for example, Cates Bridge, Northern Ireland, parts of the Central Belt, could get
02:11near frost.
02:12But that will be isolated.
02:13Most places, mid to high single figures.
02:15A chilly start, mind you, first thing, compared with recent mornings.
02:20And there'll be further showers coming through for northern Scotland.
02:22One or two coming through the Cheshire Gap, for example, for a time.
02:25They tend to ease.
02:26Decent chance of bright and dry weather breaking out across eastern and northern parts of the country.
02:32Now, towards the far south and southwest, cloud thickens.
02:35Winds change direction coming up from the southwest, bringing the next weather system by the end of the day.
02:4116 Celsius in Camborne.
02:4313 Celsius towards the northeast.
02:46And so, yeah, a cool day to come.
02:48But fewer showers around, certainly, for Scotland and northern England.
02:52Better chances are some blue skies.
02:54Now, this system will bring some wet weather, especially to the northwest of the UK, Sunday night into Monday.
02:58And mark a change to much milder weather for the start of next week, but also increasingly windy weather.
