00:00Flooding along both coasts of the United States.
00:04And it's not due to rain, it's due to the moon.
00:07The full moon.
00:09When the earth, moon, and sun line up, you get the full moon.
00:13That increases the gravitational pull, and you get higher than normal high tides.
00:18And plus, this time of the year, we have the perigean tides.
00:21When the moon is closer to the earth, or what we call the king tides.
00:26Now, California and Florida have borne the brunt of the damage here, but it's been worse in Florida.
00:32Let me show you why.
00:33First of all, notice the wave heights off the California coast.
00:36Moderate, three to six feet.
00:39But here's the key.
00:40The wind flow so far this week has been more what we call offshore.
00:45You don't see a lot of winds coming in from the Pacific in the California, except for southern California,
00:51where it has been a little worse there than farther north.
00:54Notice, note Florida, whole different story here.
00:59East coast of Florida, look at those winds just continuing to come on in.
01:03Pushing wave heights, not three to six feet.
01:07How about 10 to 15 feet offshore, and all that water comes onshore along the east coast of Florida.
01:14So the king tides here are higher, and they persist longer, and therefore, the damage is worse.
01:22How about 10 feet?
