00:00Flooding returns to the southwest this week, and unfortunately, it looks like it's New Mexico that will bear the brunt
00:08of the flooding.
00:09I say unfortunately because it's New Mexico where we've already had heavy rain over the last 30 days.
00:16This is the rainfall compared to the historical average, and you can see that dark green.
00:21That means over the last 30 days, we've seen two to three times above the normal historical rainfall.
00:27So the ground is already saturated.
00:30This is the ideal setup for heavy rain in the southwest.
00:33You have a big dip in the jet stream coming in across California.
00:36That already has some tropical moisture with it, and then we're going to bring polo into the picture as we
00:43get into Tuesday.
00:44Both of those systems combine for several inches of rain, and keep in mind, you don't need several inches of
00:50rain to produce flash flooding.
00:52Look how widespread the heavy rain is across New Mexico, southeast Colorado, and eventually into the plain states here.
01:00And unfortunately, I think we're looking at the possibility of widespread flooding, and in some spots, it's going to be
01:07extreme.
