00:00But king tides are also causing problems on the west coast with flooding surging over roads and
00:06into communities both in northern and southern California. That's where we find storm chaser
00:10Aaron Rigsby. He's in Pacifica, California. And Aaron, I mean, one, you've been all over the place,
00:16so thank you for your dedication. But tell us about what you've been seeing there in California.
00:22Yeah, good afternoon, guys. I got to tell you, this year has certainly been keeping me busy
00:26and on my toes. It seems like every other week I'm either on the west coast or the east coast.
00:30And this week being no exception, because I tell you guys, the scenes along the coastline here,
00:36whether it be closer to Newport Beach and Long Beach or all the way up here into Pacifica,
00:41have been nothing less but incredible. But for all of the wrong reasons, there have been just so many
00:46storms off of the coast this year and so many of these higher than usual tides, including this king
00:52tide that it just continues to chip away and erode and continue to dismantle a lot of these coastlines
00:58piece by piece. Now here in Pacifica, guys, this has been some this has been an ongoing issue for
01:03really the better half of the last decade. However, it has been made worse this year with all of these
01:09coastal storms, the hurricanes have been sitting offshore, and now the king tide continuing to chip
01:15away at this coastline. And right behind me, if you can believe it, this is actually a barricade
01:20behind me used to be a hiking trail that you used to be able to walk up and down the
01:24coastline.
01:24Now, just beyond this, you can see little sections of that trail, and it is just a sheer drop down
01:30to
01:30the ocean. That's pretty wild. Jesse Farrell was looking at some of the numbers. This is the record
01:35highest tide, according to his data for for Los Angeles, just broken today. All right. So, Aaron,
01:42how long are you restating in California? I know this is an ongoing issue this week.
01:47Well, right now, I'm going to be heading back south a little closer to the Los Angeles area to
01:51monitor those areas closer to Long Beach, because with this king tide, we will have at least one more
01:56day of this big push and significant wave heights to deal with up here in Pacifica. That's going to
02:02start waning down closer to tonight and in the eat this evening. So maybe making my way for that
02:07title push. But it's nonetheless, though, you guys, as I stand here, I can't help but wonder what this is
02:12going to look like in an additional 10 years. You know, it's not out of the realm of possibilities
02:16if these coastal storms continue to continue to chip away at this and have this coastline all the
02:21way up to where I'm standing right now. And unfortunately, off frame here, there are multiple
02:25businesses and structures that are quite literally teetering within inches of falling off of this
02:32cliffside. And the same could really be said down in Southern California, closer to Long Beach,
02:37closer to Dana Point, where multiple structures have not only been already damaged, but some of them
02:42have been completely destroyed. And a lot of the crews continue to have to work to build these
02:46sand walls with all of these higher than usual tidal pushes and waves that continue to damage
02:52the coast. And I got to tell you what, guys, it's probably not going to be the last time that
02:54I'm
02:55here because we still have two more king tides of the year to deal with in November and December.
02:59And if we get some of those coastal storms to sit off of the coast here and bring waves on
03:03top of
03:03that, something tells me it's not going to be the last of these buildings that are going to be
03:07heavily damaged or potentially destroyed. So that's going to be something that a lot of the residents
03:10around here are going to have to figure out in a very short amount of time on what they can
03:14do
03:14to protect their properties down here in California. All right. Storm chaser Aaron Rigsby,
03:19thanks for that reporting there, Aaron. Amazing visuals with the drone there. Yeah, I mean,
03:23adding insult to injury, we're already watching for this weekend and next week, a potential flash
03:26flood situation in parts of California. So we'll keep you updated there.
