00:00They are the absolute classic hangover championship team.
00:05I mean, they're still celebrating like they won a championship yesterday.
00:09I mean, it is just that this is going to last all.
00:12They could go 0-82, and there won't be a Knick fan crying.
00:16That's how big it was last year and just so overwhelming to think that this team
00:21was going to be focused at the start of this year.
00:24I didn't think so.
00:26So they're 0-3.
00:27They have yet to cover a game.
00:29They host Detroit tonight.
00:31They blew a 10-point lead against Orlando on Sunday,
00:34ended up losing magic into the game on a nice little 35-16 run.
00:39They're laying 4-3.5-4.
00:41You see the first three games there.
00:44They lost, and two of those were at home, right?
00:47So I do think, though, they break the schneid tonight.
00:51I think they get the win.
00:52They get the cover.
00:53I told myself I was going to bet against them every single game, all year,
00:57and I'd be pretty confident I'd be on the winning side of things, right?
01:00But I think I'm going to buck that trend.
01:02I think the Knicks, who lost last year to Detroit all three games by an average of over 25 points
01:08that they whacked them last year, the Knicks, Detroit did to the Knicks.
01:12So maybe that's what they need to kind of get out of their funk.
01:15So I like the Knicks tonight laying the floor.
01:18Yeah, I think going into the season, going into the playoffs, the Knicks were a surprise.
01:23As the playoffs went on, it was not a surprise.
01:26The Knicks appeared to be the best team in the NBA as the playoffs went on.
01:29But it was a rare scenario, I thought, in the NBA, where you asked me about Milwaukee.
01:34Usually when a team wins a championship, you start, the first question is,
01:37do you think this team's going to win again?
01:39And my answer immediately would have been no.
01:40Like, I thought the Knicks were a very fortunate NBA champion.
01:43But when the Lakers were winning theirs, and Oklahoma City was winning theirs,
01:46and Golden State was winning theirs, and even, as you mentioned, with Giannis or Denver,
01:50like, I was like, okay, yeah, I could see them winning again.
01:52But for me, the Knicks were one of those teams where, yes, they can win another championship,
01:56but I always felt like this is probably a one-and-done in terms of winning it all.
02:00So as far as New York is concerned, the idea of betting against them makes a lot of sense
02:04all season long, too, because the lines are going to be inflated,
02:07especially in October and November, the way that they came out.
02:09By the way, also looking at that, not being completely as familiar with you or Joe,
02:14with the NBA, with some of the coverage that I have here,
02:17seeing the fact that they lost to Boston and Philadelphia should give you a little bit of hope.
02:21Like, okay, like, they still have to play them a lot,
02:22but those are two tough teams that they lost to, that lost to Orlando without Ben Caro.
02:27Inexcusable. How did that happen? No idea.
02:29You probably watched it closer than I did, but that's the one.
02:31As far as the Heat is concerned.
02:34So that, obviously, I watch a lot closer.
02:38And, you know, the issue with the Heat, seemingly, is, yes, you're right.
02:42They don't have anyone off the bench.
02:44But the deal, Scott, if you really think about it,
02:48the Heat never has anybody off the bench until they do.
02:51So what does that mean?
02:52It means that the Heat is the best team in the NBA, bar none,
02:56at finding guys that are nobodies that end up getting max contracts in the NBA.
03:01Because they cultivate, they have this culture,
03:04they find who is this Max Struess, he's getting paid a lot of money.
03:07Who is this Bam Adebayo? He's a nobody.
03:09He's a max contract guy, too.
03:10Who, 10 years ago, who the heck was Hassan Whiteside?
03:13Where'd they find this guy?
03:14He signs with Portland, max contract, too.
03:17So who's that guy on Miami?
03:18I think they're going to find somebody.
03:20I think they're going to have a Jaime Haquez or whatever.
03:22By the end of the year, they're going to get those guys.
03:25But it's going to take some time.
03:27And the question is, Scott, are they going to bury themselves
03:29before they even have a chance to do that?
03:31So to your point, the idea that the Heat would win the championship
03:35and, you know, it's a sleeper to win the championship was absurd.
03:38I mean, that was just crazy.
03:40And now you have to ask yourself, forget about the bench
03:44and forget about the guys that they may have coming off that they could find.
03:48Can these two guys play together?
03:49Can Bam Adebayo and Giannis play together?
03:51Maybe.
03:52And maybe everything will be fine in a month.
03:54But right now, Scott, it looks like the biggest problem of any team in the NBA,
03:59having these two big guys in one basketball in one lane.
04:03I mean, Bam, who had 80 points in a game,
04:05I think he had like 10 last night for the game before that.
04:08So I am skeptical as to whether or not that this could be a contending type team.
04:16But as we know in the NBA, if Miami can just win their 40-something games,
04:20find a way to get in a play-in, find a way to win some games and get hot at
04:23the end,
04:23the NBA rewards you for that,
04:25which is why I think the NBA playoff system is disgusting,
04:28adding those play-in games.
04:30It's like just insane.
04:3112 teams get in, and it's like nobody's good at the back end.
04:35And that's what I hope baseball does not do.
04:37I do not want to see baseball do that.
04:39I hope they keep that the same.
04:41They can add more games.
