Crochet a tiny swinging bear that’s quick, cute, and completely no-sew. This easy amigurumi tutorial shows how to make the bear in under 30 minutes, with the option to leave off the swing and turn it into a sweet sitting bear instead.

Using bulky velvet yarn for the bear and a thinner yarn for the swing, the project is shaped with simple crochet techniques, puff stitches, and basic finishing steps. The finished bear can be used as a car rearview mirror ornament, Christmas tree ornament, bag charm, keychain, or hanging decor, making it a fun handmade gift or craft fair item. The tutorial also covers eye placement, stuffing, closing the base, and attaching the bear securely to the swing.

Perfect for crafters looking for a fast crochet tutorial, no-sew amigurumi pattern, cute bear keychain ideas, hanging plush decor, and beginner-friendly handmade gifts. Great for anyone searching for easy crochet animals, small amigurumi projects, swing bear tutorial, or quick crochet ornament ideas.

00:08hi friends welcome to the swinging bear video tutorial it's a completely no sew
00:14teddy that sits on the swing and you can turn it into a bag charm a necklace
00:19Christmas tree ornament or you can hang it on your car rearview mirror if you
00:24want to skip making the swing you end up with a really cute sitting bear it's
00:29super quick and easy to make if you think this project looks familiar you're right
00:34it's a modification of my star bear pattern which is another free tutorial on
00:39my channel it comes with a free printable bear themed gift tags and adoption
00:44certificates so if you want to download those i'll link it in the description
00:48box below there is also a pdf pattern for the swing
00:52teddy it's printable ad free and helps support me as a pattern designer
00:56linked in the description below
00:59without further ado let's look into the materials that we need
01:04for the bear i'm using bulky weight 5 plus yarn i've linked the one i used in the description box
01:10i'm also using a 5 millimeter crochet hook with that yarn
01:14for the swing i'm using a thin weight one yarn and a 2.75 millimeter crochet hook
01:20the swing is pretty flexible you can really use any weight of yarn i would suggest a thinner yarn than
01:26what you're using for the bear and of course a suitable hook for that yarn
01:32now you'll also need 6 millimeter black safety eyes a small scrap of white felt for the muzzle
01:39thread for embroidering the nose and mouth a sewing needle stuffing and scissors
01:45let's now begin
01:51to begin with the bear we're going to make a magic ring to start and in the magic ring insert
01:58eight
01:58single crochets alternatively you could use the chain method shown below
02:06here's one single crochet two three four five six seven and eight
02:21now i'm going to pull the ring tight to close up the magic ring and we're going to begin on
02:28round two
02:29for round two we're going to increase all the way around
02:32so in this first stitch i'm going to increase by inserting two single crochets one and two both in the
02:42same stitch
02:44again we're going to increase a second time
02:49increase in the third stitch
02:53and so on
03:14after that we're going to um start round three and for round three we're going to make the little ears
03:21to do that um i'm actually going to start with a little yarn marker here so i could keep track
03:26of
03:26where my rounds begin in that first stitch um we're going to begin to single crochet two and then increase
03:34and then we're going to make a small puff so single crochet two increase
03:45single crochet
03:47let's make the small puff now yarn over insert your hook into the next stitch yarn over pull up a
03:54loop
03:55then you're going to yarn over and pull through the first two loops like you would do for a double
04:00crochet
04:00but we're not going to finish it so leaving those loops on the hook we're going to need to repeat
04:06what
04:06we just did again a total of three times that was the first repetition here's the second one yarn over
04:13insert your hook into the same stitch yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull through the first two
04:19loops
04:21now for the third repetition yarn over insert your hook into the same stitch yarn over pull up a loop
04:28yarn over
04:29go through the first two loops you should have four loops on your hook at this point and you're just
04:36going to yarn over and pull through all four loops and after we make a couple more crochet
04:42stitches you can push the ear out i'll show you how to do that but for now we're going to
04:48single crochet in
04:49the next stitch and the ear is kind of puffy so you're going to want to make sure you find
04:54that next stitch
04:56it might be really close to the ear so um try and pull it aside to find it and we're
05:03going to single
05:04crochet six this will be the front of the face single crochet one two three four five and six
05:18and now we're going to make the next small puff repeating those instructions um as earlier yarn over
05:27insert your hook into the stitch yarn over pull up a loop yarn over go through the first two loops
05:34repeat that two more times for a total of three times yarn over insert your hook into the same stitch
05:41yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull through the first two loops
05:47last repetition
05:52and now we're going to yarn over go through all four loops
05:56and then we're going to single crochet one increase in the next stitch and single crochet two
06:07that concludes round number three and let me show you how the ears um should be pushed out
06:14right now here's the right side of the piece and here's the wrong side so the right side is going
06:20to be
06:21facing out we're going to kind of use our fingers to bump out that uh ear like so
06:29and i like using the end of a crochet hook to push it out even more making the ear more
06:37pronounced
06:42be gentle with um your poking if you poke too hard your hook's gonna go straight through the ear
06:51now for the next round round number four we're going to single crochet four first one two three four
07:03and increase in the next stitch
07:07i'm putting two single crochets in the same stitch
07:10now single crochet eight one two three four five six seven eight
07:26and we're going to increase in the next stitch
07:33then we're going to single crochet four to finish this round
07:46for the next rounds rounds five all the way to round seven you're simply going to single crochet
07:52around no increasing and no decreasing we're making these straight rounds and since it's very
08:01straightforward we're going to meet back at the end of round seven here is round seven complete
08:10now for round number eight um i am going to shift my marker up so i can see where my
08:16start is
08:17we're going to single crochet five to begin that's one two three four and five
08:28and now in this next stitch which is um going to be at the center of the body uh excuse
08:35me this the
08:36very side of the body and you'll find that out by folding your bear in half where your um ears
08:44kind of
08:45line up and so this next stitch should be at the very side of the body um anyways we're going
08:51to insert
08:52a big puff here a big puff is going to look like this instead of three repetitions like earlier for
08:58the small puff we're doing five so we're going to yarn over insert our hook into the stitch yarn over
09:05pull
09:06up a loop yarn over go through the first two loops that's one repetition now we're going to do it
09:13again
09:15here's the second repetition third fourth and fifth and at this point you should have six loops on your hook
09:31one two three four five six you're going to yarn over pull through all of those loops
09:38and then we're going to continue working in the next stitch
09:44we're going to single crochet nine across and this will be the front of the body
09:50that's one single crochet two three four five six seven eight in
10:06and now we're going to make our second big puff which is going to be the second arm
10:12again we're repeating those instructions by um yarning over inserting your hook and pulling
10:19through two loops repeating that sequence a total of five times
10:31now going through all of those loops and we're going to finish up this round with four single crochets
10:45and again um we're going to push those puffs out you can use your fingers first and then use the
10:53back
10:54of a crochet hook to um really make sure every part is um pushed out and pronounced
11:06all right here we go now let's continue on um with rounds nine and ten for rounds nine and ten
11:17all you're
11:18going to do is single crochet around so inserting one single crochet in each stitch and we're going to
11:25meet back at the end of round ten i forgot to mention um after you finish the arms round it's
11:32a good time to insert the plastic safety eyes you can insert them between rounds four to five about
11:38three stitches apart counting from the top that's round one two three four and five so right between
11:46four and five is where i like to insert my eyes and i put them about three stitches apart
11:53so if i put this here let's see
11:57i'm going to count over one two and three stitches after you're happy with the placement of the eyes
12:06you can go ahead and attach the backings
12:18and now we're going to get a small circle of felt i cut this out um from just a tiny
12:25scrap and as you can
12:26see you really don't need much at all for the little muzzle and um i like to use thread to
12:33sew on the mouth
12:34and the nose because the bear is just so tiny and um i'm not great at embroidery but i kind
12:43of just
12:44do things step by step slowly
13:08here's a look at the bear's finished um nose and mouth here is round number 10 complete let's move
13:19round 11 for round 11 we're going to start off with eight single crochets that's one two three four five
13:34six seven and eight and then in this next stitch we're going to make a big puff so it's the
13:44same
13:45instructions as you did for the arms we're going to make this um partial double crochet stitch five times
14:01and here i'm going to yarn over go through all six loops now we're going to single crochet three one
14:12two three and now we're going to make another big puff in the next stitch here
14:42and now we're going to single crochet seven and that will finish up the round
15:03so remember to get those puffs um puffed out
15:13at the end of round number 11 we can go ahead and stuff the body
15:28and i'm gonna keep stuffing as we move along here but um for this next round round 12 you're just
15:35going
15:35to decrease all the way around you'll have 10 stitches at the end here so that's going to look like
15:41this
15:43first decrease
15:46second
15:51third
15:56fourth
15:58and all the way around
16:28and now we're at the end of the round with 10 stitches um and the bottom we can go ahead
16:34and
16:35finish stuffing here
16:42and we're going to finish off um by decreasing two more
16:48when you do that you will end up with 10 stitches oh excuse me you'll end up with eight stitches
16:54around
16:57and at that point it's a good time to stop so that we can sew up the um opening so
17:05i'm going to pause
17:05here and snip off a yarn long
17:14and let's go ahead and sew up the bottom and to close up the opening i like to just make
17:21a
17:21running stitch
17:22in one stitch and out the next
17:27and i repeat that until i'm um all the way around in every stitch
17:37then you can pull that yarn tight and have the opening cinch closed
17:45now let's weave in our ends
17:58and that's that for the little bear as you can see he sits down on his bottom
18:05and we can go ahead and make the swing now and i'll show you how to add it to the
18:10bear
18:14and now let's go ahead and make a chain we're going to make a chain of 24 inches or however
18:20long you want the swing to be and you can use any size hook you want i'm using a smaller
18:26hook here
18:26so that i have finer stitches but we're going to go ahead and make that long 24 inch chain
18:36i'll meet back here when i've reached that length
18:39and once you have that long 24 inch chain you can go ahead and fasten off
18:46i just fasten off with a bit of a tail which i can use for tying later
18:54and now we're going to go and grab our bear to assemble
19:02now to assemble the swing and the bear what you'll do first is insert your hook through the um
19:09one of the arms and i'm just carefully kind of wedging it through
19:15through that puff stitch and you're going to take one end of the chain and pull it through
19:33and then you're going to take the other um chain uh other end of the chain
19:39and insert your hook into the second arm
19:45and pull the other end of that chain through the second arm
19:54like so
19:59and what you'll do is um if you want to you can double check the chain on the bottom
20:05and make sure it is not twisted it's very easy to twist in this case actually so just uh double
20:13check
20:20and once you're ready you can go ahead and knot the end of your um swing together
20:51once you have that swing attached all that's left to do is to adjust your swing you can go ahead
20:58and
20:58make sure that um the knotted portion is directly center from the doll's um head and you can tug on
21:07one or the other end to make sure it's centered and um test your doll's balance by holding the um
21:16swing up
21:17and you see that my doll's leaning forward a little bit so to counteract that i can um kind of
21:24adjust by pulling this
21:31forward slightly there so now my doll balances um straight on the swing
21:43and that's that for the swinging bear i hope you really enjoyed this crochet pattern
