00:00Welcome to your evening update from the Met Office. Really interesting weather as we head into the early part of
00:05Wednesday.
00:06It's going to be very warm for some, very wet and also pretty windy.
00:10All thanks to this area of low pressure sitting to the west of the Republic of Ireland and drifting actually
00:15further away.
00:17But ahead of this cold front, tucked in here across us, we've got a lot of warm air.
00:22It's been particularly warm across the southeast of the UK through Tuesday.
00:26And it's going to stay very warm overnight, but that weather front is also going to creep in,
00:30generating some quite heavy bursts of rain over Wales and southwest England, particularly over the hills,
00:35but also turning very soggy for Northern Ireland.
00:38And that rain will spread into a good part of southern and western Scotland by the end of the night.
00:43Also by then, that rain getting into northwest England, parts of the Midlands, much of eastern England,
00:48and the far north of Scotland staying quite dry, but everywhere turning quite windy.
00:53But that wind wafting up that warm air.
00:56So with the rain in the west, temperatures made it down to 14, 15 degrees,
01:01but really quite warm and humid ahead of that weather front.
01:0416 to 18 degrees in towns and cities.
01:07Some may stay a degree or so higher than that.
01:10So a very warm start to Wednesday.
01:13Quite a windy start to Wednesday.
01:15And for some, a wet start as well.
01:17That weather front continuing to track away from Northern Ireland.
01:20So pretty quickly here, it should brighten up.
01:22Same goes for Wales and southwest England too.
01:24But for the morning commute, a lot of spray, a lot of surface water on the roads across the Midlands,
01:29Northern England and Scotland.
01:30Still those brighter colours, some quite heavy bursts of rain.
01:33Notice the rain a bit more patchy over eastern England.
01:36Of course, we could do with some rain here.
01:38There will be some, but I think the heaviest rain is going to be further west.
01:42But nevertheless, a damp start for many here.
01:44In the west, something a bit brighter, at least to begin with.
01:47But then we'll see some showers coming into West Wales, Devon and Cornwall through the morning too.
01:52At the same time, the rain does scoot away out into the North Sea.
01:55So we will see brighter skies for most of us come the afternoon.
01:58Some decent spells of sunshine.
02:00Still a brisk breeze blowing, but not as windy as it will be through the night.
02:04It's not as warm as Tuesday, but still temperatures getting above the average for the final day of September.
02:1222, 23, maybe 24 Celsius is still pretty warm, just not as warm as it was on Tuesday.
02:18There will be some showers coming to Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, where, again, it will still be fairly windy.
02:24And those gusty winds bringing in more showers through the evening time to Wales and western parts of England.
02:29One or two heavy ones, but again, zipping through because of the strength of the breeze.
02:33We're into the fresher air now. The cold front's moved away.
02:36So Thursday won't start as warm as it did, as it will do on Wednesday morning.
02:42Temperatures much more likely to be 10 or 11 degrees Celsius rather than in the mid to high teens.
02:48So a fresher start, a cooler day overall, but generally a fine day on Thursday.
02:54Certainly for many central and eastern parts.
02:55There will be showers for Wales and western England.
02:58Maybe a few for Northern Ireland and the northwest of Scotland.
03:02But I suspect many places dry and bright on Thursday.
03:05A bit breezy, but again, the winds are notched down compared to Wednesday's values.
03:10And temperatures also a notch or two down.
03:13Much closer to average, but we could still maybe squeak up to 20 or 21 across the southeast.
03:17Elsewhere, 15 to 18 is more typical for what will be by then the start of October.
03:24During the course of Thursday evening, not a great deal of change.
03:26Still a few showers.
03:27Our weather system is waiting in the wings.
03:29The weather remaining fairly mixed as we head into the weekend.
