22 July - National forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Office, the dry spell continues, but there are some signs of changes as we head into the weekend.
00:06High pressure continues to dominate, but it's sitting out to the west and it is sinking slowly
00:11to the south, allowing weather fronts to topple in over the top. We've already seen quite a bit
00:16of cloud through the course of Wednesday across northern Scotland with some outbreaks of rain
00:20and drizzle, and these weather fronts will continue to feed in that cloud and that moisture,
00:25bringing damp and drizzly conditions to much of northern Scotland. One or two outbreaks of light
00:29rain possible for Northern Ireland, particularly on the north coast. Down the east coast of England
00:33may see one or two light showers, but nothing much for gardeners or farmers to get excited about.
00:39Quite a bit of cloud around through the night, the breeze coming down from the north. Well,
00:42we've got clear skies. It will turn quite cool, temperatures down into single figures, but most
00:47towns and cities will be holding up in the mid-teens, so again, quite a warm night, nothing like what
00:53we
00:53saw through the earlier part of summer, but nevertheless, these temperatures are still pretty high
00:59for the time of year. As we go through tomorrow, not a great deal of change. Likely to start quite
01:04cloudy. Could be some mist and fog across the southwest. Still one or two light showers feeding
01:08down in that northerly breeze, perhaps getting into East Anglia. The odd shower developing maybe
01:13through the day over northern England, southern Scotland. Again, some showery rain coming into the
01:17highlands along the west coast of Scotland, but even here, I think we'll see some breaks in the cloud
01:21and a bit of sunshine. Quite cloudy for Northern Ireland, but also here too, by the odd light shower,
01:26most places staying dry with some sunny spells. And I think much of the Midlands, again, South Wales,
01:31South West England, probably not blue skies all day, but quite a bit of sunshine on offer here once
01:36more. And it will be very warm across the south. Again, that zone from South East Wales down into
01:42Somerset, Dorset, but also across to the South East. Temperatures likely to get into the high 20s,
01:48if not even perhaps close to 30 Celsius. And probably a warmer day on the east coast of England,
01:52as well as the winds start to change direction. More of a westerly wind coming into northwest
01:57Scotland. Signs of those weather fronts influencing things as the high pressure slinks away down to the
02:04southwest. We will see a bit more of that showery rain coming into western Scotland as we go through
02:09the night and into the first part of Friday morning. Again, with light winds, clear skies,
02:14we could see some mist and fog patches. And again, rural spots down into single figures,
02:18whereas most towns and cities will again be in the mid-teens. So slow, subtle changes. Again,
02:25though, the vast majority on Friday, dry and bright with sunny spells. Any early mist and fog clearing,
02:30not as cloudy along the east coast, I suspect on Friday. So a better chance of some longer spells
02:35of sunshine. Meanwhile, further west, we will see a bit more cloud coming in. Again, western Scotland,
02:40a few light showers, a bit of a breeze blowing here, but otherwise, a lot of fine weather around,
02:45plenty of sunshine. Strong sunshine as well. UV levels remain high or very high. And temperatures
02:51will be high again in this zone across the south, mid to high 20s and perhaps one or two spots
02:57up to
02:5730 Celsius. A warmer feel for the likes of East Yorkshire down to Norfolk and across Lincolnshire
03:03as well, whereas it will be cooler on the west coast of Scotland. Notice behind me some rain up to
03:08the
03:08northwest. That is a sign of changes on the way. Weather fronts finally making progress. That high,
03:15slinking away further. Weather fronts moving in. Probably not going to bring huge amounts of rain
03:20across the south through the weekend, but there will be some on Saturday night. So we will see
03:25something of a change to certainly cooler conditions, generally turning cloudier by Sunday
03:30with a little rain here and there. Find out if that is going to last in our 10-day trend
