Add yarn hair to amigurumi crochet dolls with a simple hair-cap method that makes styling easier and more natural-looking. This crochet tutorial walks through how to place knotted yarn bundles into a hair cap, build up the hair in organized sections, and keep the style manageable as you work around the doll’s head.

The method begins with two long strands of yarn tied in the middle, then pulled through the cap with a crochet hook so the knot stays inside. From there, more strands are added in rows, starting at the front hairline and moving back, with the lower layers kept more sparse to avoid bulky hair. The demo also shows how to fit the cap onto the doll and prepare it for sewing, making it a useful guide for amigurumi hair, doll hair styling, crochet doll accessories, and DIY plush character design.

Created for anyone searching for amigurumi hair tutorial, crochet doll hair cap, yarn hair for dolls, and beginner-friendly crochet styling ideas. It’s especially helpful if you want a practical method for adding strands, shaping a fringe, and finishing a handmade doll with a neat, customizable look.

00:22So, let's get started.
00:25Here's the basic hair cap and I already have some strands of hair and ties on the hair.
00:34And what I'm going to do is show you first how I attach some of the strands to some additional
00:40spots on the hair cap.
00:42So the method that I use is quite simple.
00:46What I would do first is cut out strands of hair.
00:54I have some yarns that are already tied up and ready to go here.
01:05So what I would do first is cut out two long strands of hair and the two strands would be
01:13double my doll's desired hair length.
01:16So, assuming this is the top of her head, I'd like the hair to be about this long, yay
01:24long.
01:25And I would recommend going slightly longer than what you would like so that there's always
01:31room for cutting and trimming at the end.
01:36So, what you're going to do first with your two strands, let me move this out of the way,
01:43what you're going to do first with those two strands is to tie a knot in the very middle,
01:49right there.
01:50So, um, you can either tie a knot this way, like that, that takes off some of the hair,
02:01but it makes a nice big knot and that's what we want to do, make a nice big knot.
02:08Or alternatively, you can also tie it this way, loop around and pull that yarn end through.
02:18So, let's see, let's try and make it as even as possible, around there, oops, there we go.
02:30So here's the knot and I don't want to make it too tight or too small because that might
02:36pop out of the hair cap.
02:39So, once you've got that, look to see where you want the hair cap, the hair strands to
02:46be coming from out of the cap.
02:50Now, what I'm going to do, I like to place it somewhere here, I'm seeing that there's
02:55an empty spot.
02:56There are already quite a few strands coming out of other areas.
03:01So I'm going to hook in, let's say I'd like it to come out here, now hook in and, oops.
03:18So looking at the hair cap, find the spot where you'd like your strands of hair to come out
03:23of.
03:24Um, what I would like to do is add some more to this bold spot here, and to do that,
03:34I'm
03:35going to first have this, um, our knotted bundle on the inside of the cap.
03:41You're going to push your crochet hook into the hair cap, and then take one end of that
03:55bundle and pull it out.
04:01As you do so, you'll feel that the knot stops the hair, um, bundle from pulling out completely.
04:11And so you'll have half of the, um, bundle out, now we've got to get the other half out.
04:18So I'm going to reach in, um, let's say I'd like it to come out around here.
04:23So I'm going to reach in and pull that second half of the bundle out.
04:35There.
04:37Now at this time, I have, my bundle consisted of two, um, two strands of yarn.
04:45So now I had it doubled up, so I have four strands of yarn or hair coming out.
04:53There we go.
04:54And as you can see, I kind of, um, tied up bits of the hair here and there.
05:00Uh, I'll explain the, um, how I part the hair and organize the hair in a little bit.
05:08But I'm going to show you one more time how I attach one of these bundles.
05:14So starting from the beginning, again, you have, um, two strands of yarn.
05:19Tie a knot in the middle, like so.
05:22And you're going to find where you want your strands to come out of.
05:28Let's say I'd like it to come out of somewhere here.
05:32Push that crochet hook in.
05:35Oops.
05:38Pull out half of the bundle.
05:42Like so.
05:44You'll feel that stop over there because of the knot.
05:48And you're going to insert your hook and pull out the second half of that bundle.
05:59There.
06:00So these are the additional four strands that I just added onto the hair cap.
06:06And you're going to want to do that all around the head.
06:10So, uh, let me quickly explain how I organize it.
06:16And, um, it's good to work with, um, some sort of order and structure, um, for the sake of managing
06:24all of these strands.
06:27Um, so first things first, um, I like to start from the midline where there is a, um, hairline.
06:37And what I do is I normally start from the very, uh, front of the hair cap at midline and
06:43I keep working back like so.
06:46Then I take all of these front strands and I tie them together.
06:52After that, you can work on the opposite end, making sure I went through the same stitches actually to make
07:00it nice and tight.
07:02Um, so that there isn't a gap in between.
07:05And after you go through from the, from the front working towards the back in a row, you're going to
07:13tie that bundle up as well.
07:16So that it doesn't, uh, get mixed up with the other layers below.
07:21So I've got those two bundles first.
07:24Then I work underneath, as you can see underneath that, um, that first midline bundle.
07:32Um, I add some additional strands and tie them up.
07:38So here, the ones below, um, feel free to make it sparse and not as thick and, um, um, in
07:48line as the first midline bundle.
07:51And the reason for that is because if you make, if you add too many strands, what's going to happen
07:57is that your doll is going to end up having a whole ton of hair and it might become very
08:04bulky, very unmanageable, et cetera.
08:07But of course, if you like that style, if you want to have a lot of voluminous hair, feel free
08:13to.
08:14Um, after you lift that up, again, I have this, um, side part a lot more sparse.
08:23And I'm only putting in strands, um, you know, maybe two or three stitches apart instead of just one stitch
08:32apart.
08:34So that's that.
08:37And, um, if I set this down, this is the front of the doll's head.
08:42Um, we want to pay attention to the back side a little bit as well.
08:46So I added just a few in the back, like so.
08:50Um, I didn't bother tying these together because it's just a small bundle back here.
08:55And if desired, if you don't want to see all of this back showing, feel free to add some more
09:02sparse strands here and there.
09:05Now, after that, you can, if you want to see whether or not you have enough hair for your doll,
09:13you can fit it onto your doll like a wig.
09:16So the hair cap, um, uh, if you use my crochet patterns, you'll notice that the hair cap is the
09:23same size as the doll's head.
09:26Um, stopping only, um, usually a little past, um, half of the doll's head.
09:33So it's the same instructions for the head, but you only use rows one, two, perhaps halfway or a little
09:40more than halfway.
09:42If I fit it horizontally over my doll, as you can see, it's about halfway on my doll's head.
09:50But of course, we're not going to add the wig like that.
09:54That would look rather silly.
09:56Um, you're going to put it at a, I like about a 45 degree or maybe a wider degree, maybe
10:0550 or 55 degrees.
10:08And see how you would like that.
10:11Uh, this gives my doll a bit of a, quite a large forehead.
10:15So I'm going to push it down a little bit more.
10:19And you can always sew the hair cap on like this, or you can sew bangs onto the doll as
10:26well.
10:26And I'm choosing not to sew bangs or a fringe onto my doll, onto this doll in particular, because I'm
10:35going to use her actual hair strands here, um, to make a fringe.
10:42And that's just one of the ways you can style your doll's hair.
10:46So, um, what you'll do next after attaching all of the strands of hair, go ahead and take, um, I
10:58have a yarn, a loose yarn end that comes from crocheting the hair cap.
11:03So I'm going to use this to sew the hair cap onto my doll.
11:08And you can do that as well.
11:09Or if you do not have a yarn end or a yarn tail, feel free to just get a new
11:14strand of, um, the same colored yarn and sew it onto your doll's head like so.
11:34I'll leave back as a nice brown as kind to knit all the bands that I've designed to develop and
11:34access it on my kind of fabric is not怎么 round.
11:34So, in there you can also see that it's actually very spooky.
11:34If you look at the two and then게요 it was a very pastel cách…
11:35Wildness and all this व is up to the begins Ahh!!
