00:00Hi Daryl. Hello boys. What'd you think of Dylan Gabriel last night? Did a nice job.
00:09That's all he gets? That's all I get. Yeah. What do you mean? He did a nice job. He did
00:14a really
00:15nice job. Come on. I want damning opinion here Daryl. Well he looked better than the starting
00:20quarterback did in the preseason. I said that and the Shador fans they have woken up and they're
00:25not happy with me saying that. Yeah. Big surprise. Neither is anybody else. I thought Dylan did
00:32good. See the weird thing is is that if we're all saying he's a career backup then why knock
00:37him for playing well against other backups? He should play well. I wasn't knocking him.
00:42I know. I know you weren't. Again the level of competition he looked better than the starting
00:48quarterback because the starting quarterback played against the Bills backups and looked
00:54awful. So no I give him his credit. I really enjoyed his postgame press conference last
01:02night as well. I thought he just he's got a good head on his shoulders. You can see why
01:10the Browns like him so much. And I do think that because of how he approaches things I think
01:21that's going to keep him in the league whether that's here in Cleveland or he goes on to be a
01:26career backup that you know bounces around teams. But I thought he handled last night very well.
01:34And you know my hat's off to him. He actually made a preseason game entertaining to watch him
01:42and him and Taylor Greene. I mean that that was kind of fun to watch. Let's be honest about it.
01:46Well do you think he's maybe damned if he does and damned if he doesn't because
01:49I mean come on he's got to been talking to his agent over the last few months going let's get
01:53a change of scenery here. Let's get going. It's like well you played too well now and you showed
01:57that you knew where everybody was supposed to line up and hell that's half the battle in this
02:01quarterback room. So maybe he played so well that we can't let him go. Well and I mean it was
02:08interesting listening to Todd Monken as well as him on the subject. I do think there's a chance he gets
02:14cut. Just listening to how he responded to those questions. Gabriel gets cut? Yeah. Really? Well
02:22I someone I mean Monken said we can't keep them all. So now I realize press conference sound bites
02:32aren't sworn testimony here. But I did pull that clip before I went to bed last night that that video
02:37clip of Monken talking about how both guys played exactly how he thought they'd play which was well
02:42and and whatnot. And you know it's you know it stinks that they're in the spot that they're in and
02:49you know but they can't keep them everybody. And so I think that there's a real possibility they only
02:55keep three quarterbacks on the active roster. I still think it's gonna be four just to be clear. I don't
03:00think they're gonna cut them. I think that they're at least going to start with the initial 53 man
03:05roster Sunday night with all four quarterbacks. But sure like or I should say sure sounded like Todd
03:11Munkin opened the door to letting one of the one of those guys go. Was Dylan Gabriel given a raw
03:18deal
03:19here in Cleveland? I don't think he was given a raw deal. He wasn't in the quarterback competition
03:25this year unlike last year. And why was that? Well I kind of feel like that Todd Munkin looked at
03:33the
03:34tape last year and felt about it the way we all did. And and understandably so. But I that the
03:47problem is
03:48that you know Deshaun Watson made the team before he took a snap in training camp. Okay. Because because he
03:55had to you can't you can't move on from Deshaun Watson. I mean you could but then you torpedo your
04:012027 season with an 80 plus million dollar salary cap hit next year. And you just you can't do that.
04:07So he made the team not on his merits but because of his contract. Now they say he won the
04:14starting
04:15job on his merits which I I still don't believe he looked like the best quarterback in camp. He
04:22certainly didn't look like the best quarterback in the preseason. But he's going to be the the best
04:28quarterback come September 13th. So as far as what you know I just I mean I understand why
04:38folks would feel that way that Dylan didn't get a shot. And it's true. I mean he didn't get he
04:44was
04:45not in consideration for the starting job. He did not get significant reps in training camp. He did.
04:52Heck he didn't even get significant reps leading up to starting the game Thursday night.
04:57Those went to Deshaun Watson with the ones and then it was Shador Sanders getting the reps with
05:02the twos. So I understand why people might say that Dylan Gabriel got a bit of a a raw deal
05:09there.
05:09But again hats off to him to the for the way he performed and kept a good head on his
05:16shoulders
05:16despite knowing and you could see it on his face last night when he was answering questions his
05:22disappointment knowing that he was never in consideration for the starting job. And I'm
05:27sure he felt he should have been. Daryl who has a better chance to be on an NFL roster three
05:35years
05:35from now. Shador Sanders or Dylan Gabriel. Oh man you're really you're really put me in what is
05:43your problem. Bad spot here. I don't you don't need to answer that. That was nasty.
05:49Yeah because it's a camera like that too. This is this is gonna be this is this video is getting
05:54cut. I'm gonna go viral and I'm gonna have to deal with these people. You don't let me hear you
05:58Daryl. No last Saturday was hell on earth for the poor guy. You don't need to do this again to
06:02him.
06:03Daryl I asked you a question. Need an answer.
06:07Don't answer that. Plead the fifth. I think I'm gonna take the fifth on. No Daryl. Wait what was
06:14the question again. The question was. Not in the mood for that. The question was three years from
06:20now who's got a better shot to be on an NFL roster. Shador Sanders or Dylan Gabriel. Yeah I I
06:27want
06:28nothing. You're a psycho. Don't answer that. Don't answer. But Taylor and Green. Listen you know what I
06:34I I we we already went through the death threat thing with you guys before. Let's not have a
06:38repeat. No no no no. Not a death threat. A slapping threat. Be a radio host if you haven't had
06:44a
06:44death threat. You know slapping is now a sanctioned sport in this country. Okay. It is. Okay. And one
06:51fan base takes a lot of pride in their ability to slap. Anyway Taylor and Green uh can he make
06:57the
06:57team or can they oh you know what can they cut him and actually get him through waivers. I actually
07:01think they could if we're just watching last night. I think they can't. I think they really
07:05could put him on the practice squad. I think they could. I mean it's a it's a gamble but I
07:09think
07:09well I I think because of the intel they had that two teams within the division I I think it
07:16was
07:16two teams at least. Oh that's right. One wanted him. I I don't think so Ken. I I think I
07:25think he's
07:25got to make the roster. I don't think they can take the chance there. You see the raw you see
07:29the
07:29raw skill the raw talent. I did the roller coaster player uh in a lot of respects reminds me of
07:36Chador Sanders last year but you watch him and you're like man he's raw but there there's something
07:41there and it needs work and that's that's kind of how I feel about Taylor and Green after watching
07:47him last night. Again guy not getting any snaps that really the the most meaningful 11 on 11 snaps
07:53that guy got in training camp were the dummy quarterback for the pass rush pass protection drill
08:00where they put him out there uh to just take the snap and hopefully nobody fell into him because they
08:07didn't want to put either Chador or Deshaun in that spot. So um I I thought he was fun to
08:14watch
08:14I'm not gonna lie I mean he turned uh he turned a what probably should have been a safety into
08:19a 30
08:20yard game. I mean man uh I I think he's gonna be a lot of fun to watch but I
08:27I think he did make
08:27the team uh I think he made the team before camp began. Daryl Ryder uh Daryl Ryder joining us on
08:34the
08:34show. Well then I I guess I gotta find any sort of a trade for Dylan Gabriel. I mean well
08:39and that's
08:39that's why I said you know and I understand you're surprised at that but like I I think it's a
08:45possibility I mean that they do go with three. I still not and that's fine again I believe it's
08:52four but I think the possibility does exist that they go with three and they've got to make a tough
08:57decision uh over the the next couple of days between Gabriel and uh and uh Taylor Green. I mean I
09:05I mean
09:05they're not cutting Shador Sanders he's the two and and also too Todd Munkin made it very clear that
09:11the the performances last night did not move him off his quarterback order as far as you know Dylan
09:18bumping up to the number two quarterback spot it's still Shador Sanders unless Andrew Barry shocks us
09:25all. Now I am willing to say this unless Andrew Barry shocks us all and trades Shador Sanders over
09:29the weekend. Who's he gonna trade him to? I don't know I'm just throwing it out there. Because I I'm
09:35looking at Dylan Gabriel. Andrew Barry himself says quarterback. Who are they gonna trade Dylan
09:38Gabriel to there uh Ken? Well it's six or seven round pick I can't wait a minute. Who's blowing up
09:43who's blowing up Andrew Barry's phone in demand for Dylan Gabriel? Over last night proven that he knows
09:48where guys are supposed to line up and knows where to throw the football there's not a team out there
09:52it's like hey if we have to break the glass on the guy we can't I'll give up a seventh
09:55or maybe even
09:55a six round pick for the guy. Andrew Barry himself says quarterbacks are currencyed has he not? He said it
10:00over the last seven years I believe him. I think the only way you get a six for Dylan Gabriel
10:04is if you
10:04send a seventh with him. Like yeah I just I I just I don't know. Then I'll take a seventh
10:10then.
10:10Yeah no no I'm saying you're sending a seventh with Dylan to get a six. I know and I guess
10:15I'll
10:15take a I'm sorry I'll take a seventh back then. I'd like something back. Well yeah you're getting
10:21that sixth round pick. Okay fine then I'll do that. Yeah I just I don't know that there's a robust
10:29trade market for Dylan Gabriel. There isn't but I I'm not just gonna let him walk after that. Well look
10:33maybe
10:34you know maybe Kevin Stefanski does the Browns a solid for that. Yeah well he didn't get much of a
10:39severance pay because of the offset language in his contract but you know what I'm saying. Maybe
10:43he does the Browns a little. How do we how do we Darryl Ryder joining us on the show? How
10:47do we get
10:47Luke Flory on the team? Uh man that it's it I I first of all I don't think Gage Larvin
10:56made it last
10:57night. All right that's good for Luke Flory. No offense to Gage Larvin. Yeah that's good. I mean you're
11:01right now obviously we know the big four right. Casey, Denzel, Jerry, um and Isaiah Bond. And then
11:11I am thinking Tylan Wallace made it so that's five. Because he's a he because he's a Munkin guy right?
11:16Yeah and then and that leaves the final spot between you know Malachi Corley, um and him. Because I mean
11:26I I don't know that I mean I know Cole Wilson's rookie. I don't know that he's done enough to
11:31make
11:32it. I don't know that uh Ben Patterson who kind of just got here. I don't know if he's had
11:36enough time
11:36to make it. Um number 38 is a wide receiver. We can move on. Yeah uh so I think Luke
11:45listen I I think
11:46you try not to get overly caught up in preseason game performances but I think the kid deserves a
11:54shot as the number six wide receiver. I really do. Uh but Malachi Corley's had a good training camp
12:01as well. So I think Malachi Corley ain't from here. No I know. How many games do you think we're
12:06gonna
12:06win? Well I I still have it in between the five and eight. Okay then then that means Luke Flory
12:11should make the team. Because I'm gonna give him a crack at it because I want a local kid in
12:16there
12:17damn it. You're not. I demand entertainment at least. You're hoping not to have to give meaningful
12:22snaps to your number six wide receiver. Right? That's true. Especially with the four guys you
12:27have at top combined with Harold Fannin Jr. Combined with Dylan Sampson, Quinshawn, Judkins. Right? You
12:33got eight nine uh potential targets in the passing game uh right there alone before you get to the
12:40fifth or sixth wide receiver on the team. So but it but I think it comes down to Malachi Corley
12:45or him.
12:46Uh Daryl I know you were at the game so you weren't necessarily privy to the coverage of the game
12:52on Amazon but. No but I was privy to your timeline. Well it was very very interesting how
12:59the uh the the discussion about Deshaun Watts was very different from a discussion we're having here
13:06locally. It was as if the last four years never happened and they were talking yeah they were
13:13talking about this as as this great rehab project that he has a chance to silence all the doubters and
13:21to become you know a starting quarterback again in this league. Did would that surprise you? Where
13:26do you think that came from? I know exactly where that came from. It came from their access leading
13:31up to the game and talking to folks within the Browns and probably talking to Deshaun. So uh because
13:39these people don't cover the Browns every day. Well so Daryl my my follow-up would be. They fly in
13:44they do their game they hop on a plane they move on to the next one. Yeah so if that's
13:47the case
13:48and also I I thought it was notable how Shador Sanders was a complete afterthought and this was
13:55somebody who was competing for the starting job right up until you know Deshaun won it at the start
14:01of the week yet Shador was not a part of their coverage basically at all. Does that tell you
14:06anything about what the Browns think of Shador Sanders that a lot of that if you're saying that
14:12story was coming from the Browns why was Shador not a big part of the coverage? Well where else would
14:17that story come from Anthony right? I mean if you're selling I mean that's that's all the Browns
14:21have to cling to right now is you're selling the positives of a reclamation project and him coming
14:27back from these injuries with the the rehab he did and and all that. I mean that that's all you
14:32have
14:32to sell with this guy. You certainly can't sell his play. You certainly can't sell that the fans love
14:38him. You certainly can't sell that he's a great guy off the field. So that's all you have. Well that's
14:42hold on though they were framing that as part of the story. They went back to footage from his Houston
14:47days of him being a community guy and helping out people. You know I remember that that famous story
14:53of him donating part of his first check to those ladies that were you know in the uh the food
14:59operations there. So they were trying to illustrate what a great guy he is. Yeah okay well um uh as
15:07far as
15:07Shadour goes yeah I I I mean shame I mean they they lost a revenue opportunity last night. I mean
15:14they could have had Shadour pimp some product for him and uh you know they they could they could have
15:19blown up the prime uh in the middle of the game for you get your Shadour Sanders jersey now here
15:25click the thing on your t on your phone to order order it now or whatever I you know yeah
15:31I mean um
15:32look they get a lot of intel behind the scenes they get one on you know basically one on one
15:37meetings with the the coaches sometimes the coordinators are involved like I mean there's
15:41a lot that goes in to these tv productions and the and and and look the I'm just being honest
15:47this
15:47isn't a complaint this is reality the the tv production people get much better access to the
15:52football team than the people that cover it every single day um I mean we we don't get one-on
15:57-one
15:57conversations with Andrew Barry or Todd Munkin or whatever we get we get our daily gaggle with uh you
16:03know with with Todd and we get the the pre the the the training camp availability and the trade
16:09deadline availability and then whatever offseason availability with Andrews I mean that that's
16:13basically you know uh the the the bulk access there so I'm you know um and so yeah I mean
16:22I
16:23I I I have no expectation that the Sean is going to be able to do much of anything because
16:29I'm just
16:29being realistic it's not about hating on the guy it's just I'm just realistic about what he's trying
16:34to come back from here uh and it's a lot and he's played 19 games in six years so I
16:41will be pleasantly
16:42surprised if he returns to the form of the player that they traded for but um as to why Shador
16:50is an
16:50afterthought I that is that's interesting to me I mean I I I don't know what was said I don't
16:57know
16:57how they handle it I obviously you do you watched it but um if indeed that is the case I
17:03I find it
17:03interesting that uh they didn't do a lot of talking about Shador last night Darryl thank you for the
17:08time we'll talk to you next week have a good weekend you bet guys have a good weekend you too
