00:00Dan, we have a lot to talk about here in the northeast as our nor'easter ramps up.
00:05It's going to be a high-impact weekend across the region.
00:09And I know that Anna talked about the coastal hazards for the mid-Atlantic,
00:12but as we move forward, we're going to carry this up into the New England state.
00:15So what are you most concerned about?
00:17I think, Jeff, the most concerning impact from this storm will be the coastal flood risk.
00:21Anytime you get a strengthening low offshore, we're headed into nor'easter season here in the fall and the winter,
00:26we expect coastal flooding from these with a strong onshore wind called nor'easters
00:30because the wind is mainly out of the nor'easterly direction.
00:34That's going to help pile up water, which has already been ongoing for the last couple days.
00:37And those impacts will expand north as we get into New England by Friday and into the weekend.
00:43And some of those concave chunks of coastline, water just gets trapped there along southeast parts of Massachusetts.
00:49We have very significant concerns about coastal erosion.
00:52How about the wind?
00:53The wind's going to vary quite a bit between the inland areas and the coast,
00:55but along the coastline, what are we expecting?
00:57Yeah, I think the wind at the coast is the most concerning area.
00:59Obviously, we have the Jersey Shore highlighted all the way up into most of coastal New England here,
01:0340 to 60 mile an hour winds.
01:05Wouldn't be surprised to see a few gusts top out near 70.
01:08Probably the worst of that wind is on Saturday into Saturday night.
01:12And importantly, the wind is going to help continue to push that water onshore.
01:15And as you mentioned, Jeff, some of those bays don't fully discharge
01:18until the wind goes more out of the westerly direction.
01:20So we expect the coastal flooding to be a risk really into the weekend and expand north,
01:25along with the power outage risk as shown here with the localized power outages in that entire wind area.
01:31And then probably right at the immediate coast, Cape and Islands here in Massachusetts,
01:35down to the eastern tip of Long Island,
01:37all could see a bit more widespread power outages from this intensifying nor'easter.
01:41And so at least tens of thousands of addresses, a pretty good bet.
01:45So right now the storm's kind of disorganized, but that onshore wind is a big factor
01:49because of strong high pressure to the north in conjunction with low pressure offshore.
01:52As we carry this forward, though, we go from almost no precip across the northeast
01:56to a storm that sends this wave of rain back inland.
02:00So when are the most significant impacts here with rainfall?
02:04Yeah, there's going to be rainfall, some pockets of flooding.
02:06There certainly will be some issues with that in southeastern New England.
02:10One thing we're tracking that's sort of going to be fine-tuning over the next couple days
02:14is the exact track.
02:15If it goes a bit farther west, more rain could impact the New York City metro area on Saturday.
02:19And that heavy rain, four to eight inches in southeastern New England,
02:22Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod, area south of Boston.
