00:00As this nor'easter intensifies, communities in New England are preparing for coastal impacts.
00:04Meteorologist and storm chaser Tony Laback joins us now from Sandwich, Massachusetts
00:08as this storm closes in on the northeast.
00:11Because, Tony, you just have a knack for finding the most interesting town names to set up shop in.
00:17You know, it was funny when I was scoping this area here, mapping, kind of looking at the various...
00:23First of all, I want to apologize to all the folks here in New England along the northeast coast.
00:27There are so many of these town names.
00:30I have no clue even where to begin to start to say them correctly.
00:34I'm happy that Sandwich, at least, is a common one.
00:37And that is where we are here.
00:38One of the beaches behind me at low tide.
00:41So we're not dealing with the storm inundation right now compared to what we saw this morning.
00:45It has been mainly the wind here today as the tide has gone out.
00:49We've seen a steady increase this morning.
00:51We were probably about 30.
00:53Now we're probably consistently in the 40 to 45 mile per hour range.
00:57That likely to continue to go up as we get into the overnight hours.
01:01The rain has been off and on.
01:02It has generally been light.
01:03Most of the heavier rain has been just offshore.
01:06We occasionally get kind of a light little bit coming in through here.
01:09I will say that does kind of amplify some of the winds, especially if the rain gets a little bit
01:12heavier.
01:13You get a little bit more downward motion.
01:15Sometimes that kicks up a little bit more squally type winds.
01:18But generally speaking, we're gusting consistently 35, 40, maybe even the 45 here.
01:24The wind, again, just going to be the issue pretty much all night and howling.
01:28That is one of those things that you get with these systems, just that constant noise, the constant howling of
01:35the wind.
01:35And tomorrow, high tide, depending on where you are, anywhere between like 1030 and 1130, up and down the Massachusetts
01:42coast, eastern Massachusetts coast, from Boston down to the south.
01:46So we're going to be looking probably at the biggest impacts along then.
01:49We're going to be kind of working our way up the coast tomorrow morning, as we'll be reporting during our
01:54YouTube live that we're going to be doing, talking about some of the coastal inundations.
01:58Crews have been out kind of taking care of some of the roads that usually are prone to that kind
02:02of flooding.
02:02A lot of homes, we have seen a few of them with the hurricane shutters that come down.
02:07Not a ton of prep work.
02:08In fact, we're here at a brewery here in Sandwich, which is just absolutely packed.
02:13So people still out doing the northeastern things, even despite the nor'easter.
02:19So we are going to continue to kind of see that overnight.
02:22I'll be anxious to see exactly what the crowds look like tomorrow in a lot of these places,
02:27as we're probably going to bring more unsettled rainy weather that isn't as friendly to be in.
02:31Not that this is much better.
02:33But just a personal story here.
02:35When I was growing up, guys, my nickname was Tony Bologna.
02:39So it's like full circle that Tony Bologna in Sandwich.
02:43So we're going to call me Tony Bologna Sandwich here in Sandwich for you guys tonight.
02:47I think should we call him that during our lives tomorrow?
