00:00Falls on Drake, though.
00:01Like, that's bottom line.
00:02It's the mental mistakes of Drake made.
00:04The same things we saw last season.
00:07That's null and void to me.
00:08Like, the way in which that game ended, that falls on Drake.
00:11I would like to see.
00:12I would like to see.
00:13Well, if you look at Drake getting out of situations with his legs
00:17and running for first downs, he scrambled a lot.
00:20He was able to get out of certain situations and run for first downs,
00:24which is very frustrating.
00:25And as a defender, it slows you down when you have a quarterback
00:30that can run, right?
00:32So if I was running the offense, I would try to threaten the defense
00:38with more of that RPO look, run pass, spread offense,
00:43get four receivers out, and get everybody in space.
00:47Because when Seattle was running zone,
00:50we were throwing the ball and getting first downs.
00:53When they started to dial up, when they started to dial up.
00:56Was that what you were calling for on your Instagram?
00:59I'm just saying, hey, I've been saying it since last year.
01:01This is a thing we've been asking for for over a year now with McDaniels,
01:06and they still won't give us anything.
01:07There's not even a morsel.
01:08I like it because it puts the defense in a bind of aggression.
01:14Right.
01:15When you're, hey, let's blitz this guy.
01:17Let's bring in the pressure.
01:19You have to say, well, if we're not perfect, they could hurt us.
01:25They could hurt us a lot.
01:27So that's when you're playing any quarterback that can get out of a situation
01:31with his legs.
01:32There were instances where the defenders were 10, 12 yards up the field,
01:37and Drake was able to just step up and get out or check the ball out to a wide
01:41route, run for first down.
01:43So, you know, I think that this could be a potential big learning experience for
01:48everybody.
01:49Like, hey, we're in this situation.
01:51Let's learn from this.
01:52Yes, at all costs, you protect the three points.
01:55You protect the tie.
01:57And then a little pressure comes.
01:59Drake's on his back foot, throws it up.
02:01I don't hate the first interception.
02:04I don't hate it.
02:05You throw it up to your receiver.
02:06The ball gets volleyballed in the air.
02:08Okay, that's football.
02:09The second one, that was tough because he didn't see the coverage there.
02:13The third one, you got to protect the ball.
02:15It was horrible.
02:17781 Texter wants to know, how much does either the Romeo Dobbs drop or the A.J.
02:23Brown injury put pressure on Drake to try to do more than he should be doing?
02:29The drop is very tough.
02:32That's one of those situations where, hey, you complete that.
02:36But you don't know what happens out of that drive if he makes that catch, right?
02:40So you got to catch that football.
02:42Yeah, he took his eyes off.
02:43Yeah, he was thinking about running after the catch.
02:46So it was a simple, like, throw the ball to him, catch it, and run with it.
02:50Get what you're going to get.
02:52First down, move the chains.
02:53You're closer to field goal range in that situation.
02:55So, yeah, the A.J. thing hurts.
02:57When you lose a guy like that, it definitely affects what the defense is doing.
03:02Because when you got A.J. on the field, I think there was a certain blitz that they ran,
03:06and he just ran a quick slant, right?
03:08And similar play that he got hurt on.
03:11Right.
03:11You know, so we'll see what happens with that, how long he's going to be out.
03:15But whenever you're on the ground and you're holding your ankle, it's never a good thing.
03:19All right.
03:20A loss for the Patriots to start the season.
03:22Rob Ninkovich is here talking about that.
03:25We will continue in two minutes, no longer, on the Greg Hill Show at WEI.
03:31And right back at it tonight, a game, Thursday Night Football from Australia.
03:35Did you see the guy who they flew all the way to Australia and then cut him?
03:41That's wild.
03:42Some practice squad, so he got to stay.
03:44Right, but still, it's like, but I thought they flew him back.
03:48No.
03:49Stayed in Australia.
03:50Oh, okay.
03:50All right.
03:51That is wild.
03:52It's dirty.
03:52That's the dirty business.
03:54But nobody knows the dirty side of football, right?
03:56Everybody sees just the million, multi-million dollar contracts, but nobody knows that side
04:01of how it actually happens.
04:02Yeah.
04:03I've never been a part of that, but.
04:04I have personal experience with that, and it stinks.
04:07Yeah.
04:08So, 2006, I blew my knee out, so that was my rookie year.
04:13Come back the next year, the Saints are playing in Indianapolis, okay, Thursday Night Football.
04:20Do the whole rehab.
04:21I'm back.
04:22I tore my other MCL, so I'm not back, but I practice.
04:26I put the brace on.
04:27Head coach says I'm good.
04:29I make the team.
04:30I travel with the team, okay?
04:32So, I'm thinking, all right, I'll probably be inactive, but it gives me another week to recover.
04:37So, Thursday night, or Thursday morning, I get up, go to breakfast.
04:41And the day before, I was going into the shower, Drew Brees' locker was right next to the showers,
04:46and I could have swore I heard, we're going to cut Ninkovich.
04:50Drew Brees was saying that?
04:51I thought I heard him say it.
04:53To the other fellas.
04:53This isn't 100% confirmed.
04:56You always look around first and make sure the individual isn't there.
05:00So, in my head, I'm like, I don't think he said my name.
05:03Oh, my God.
05:03You and I are so different.
05:04I would have spiraled into another universe.
05:08I was positive in my brain of like, no.
05:11You're like, did he say Ninkovich or Sminkovich?
05:14Who are we cutting tomorrow?
05:16There's another itch on the team.
05:17So, I'm like, no, I don't think so.
05:19So, I travel with the team at breakfast.
05:22Sean cuts me.
05:23He goes, yeah, we're going to cut.
05:24You're bringing up the third quarterback.
05:25Yeah, like, you need the third quarterback.
05:27He's not even going to sniff the field.
05:29So, they cut me.
05:30I call my parents.
05:32I'm like, yeah, they cut me.
05:33They're driving to Indianapolis.
05:35It's like a three-hour drive.
05:36So, my dad pulls into a gas station and throws every single thing away
05:40that's Saints-oriented, honest person.
05:43So, he bought a Mallard duck t-shirt.
05:45Just a t-shirt with a duck on it.
05:47So, we call him Mallard sometimes.
05:49I like that.
05:50But he was pretty angry.
05:51And, yeah, they cut me.
05:53I was on the sidelines as a cut player.
05:56I traveled back with the team as a cut player.
05:58And then I got claimed by the lovely Miami Dolphins that went 1-15 that 07 year.
06:03Wait, they keep you there?
06:04Yeah.
06:05Why don't they just put you on a flight?
06:07Yeah, you could stay and just hang out.
06:09You know, it's so odd.
06:12That's awful.
06:13Everybody knows your cut.
06:15Where do you sit during the game?
06:16I was on the sidelines.
06:18Yeah.
06:19Not in the stands.
06:20Not in the stands.
06:21In Saints gear.
06:23Not as a Saint.
06:24Let me get your feedback on a bunch of text messages
06:27because people are very much worked up this morning.
06:30Oh, yeah.
06:30Relax, everybody.
06:31617 text, which says it is fairly apparent that Shime's guy has trouble reading defenses.
06:39I don't know about that.
06:41I think that's...
06:42I don't think that was the case at all.
06:43I don't think that was the case.
06:44You're playing a defense that's known for being a dial-it-up type defense.
06:49Yes, they didn't have their two safeties there.
06:51But at the end of the day, it's the first game of the season.
06:56And you're on the road playing Seattle, which they just won a Super Bowl.
07:00They're a good football team.
07:01It's not like you're playing a mid-tier team.
07:04They're a good team.
07:06And I don't think that's the case.
07:08So everyone just, on the whole, like, let's jump off the Drake May train.
07:13Let's ride this thing out.
07:15Let's watch him.
07:16Let's see how he develops a little more.
