00:00Hey, Drake, how's it going, man?
00:01Hi, Drake.
00:04What's going on?
00:05Hey, what's up, Drake?
00:07So obviously, you know, with yesterday's loss, you know, that obviously wasn't what you guys wanted.
00:12I'm sure when things aren't going the way you hoped, you got dozens of people giving suggestions.
00:16Like, in moments like this, like, whose advice do you trust the most?
00:22Whose advice do I trust the most?
00:23I trust a lot of people's advice.
00:25You know, I trust, you know, my coaches, Coach Frable, Coach McDaniels, Coach Ash,
00:30I trust my teammates, my family.
00:32So I got a lot of people around me that, you know, respect their opinions and respect their advice.
00:37And I know that we didn't have to put the football we wanted out there,
00:41but we got to, you know, push and do that this week.
00:44What did Josh say to you after the game?
00:46I know you mentioned a few people, but what did Josh McDaniels say to you afterwards?
00:49I know you say you trust his advice, so what advice did he give you?
00:53Yeah, you know, I think Coach is always, you know, great at trying to learn from things
00:58and learn from, you know, things in the game.
01:00And also knowing that you got to execute and realize that you only get one chance.
01:06And he's always said that since, you know, he started coaching me.
01:08You know, these games you get, you know, one chance to play and one chance to look
01:13and one chance to make a play and one chance to make a good decision.
01:16And knowing that you got to go at it and move on and realize that, you know,
01:20the plays ahead are the most important.
01:22So, Drake, I just want to clarify something from yesterday.
01:24When you said that you don't believe there's a problem with your shoulder,
01:28are you saying your right shoulder and throwing arm feel 100% physically the same
01:33as they did before the injury with no lingering loss of strength
01:36or velocity or range of motion?
01:38Or is there any difference at all?
01:41Yeah, I mean, similar, you know, question the way I answered it in the postgame.
01:45You know, I think we got to, you know, I don't think that has anything to do with
01:48executing and playing better football and realizing that that's the biggest thing
01:52that contributes to winning.
01:53But I think that people were confused by your answer yesterday.
01:56And I guess they were left wondering, you know, do you feel the same as you did
02:02before your injury?
02:03Or is there still something that's lingering?
02:06Anytime I'm out there and I'm, you know, dressing in uniform on the field,
02:09I'm going to play 100% and give it my all.
02:11So that's kind of what I have to say.
02:12Is it something that you're managing every day?
02:17I mean, any time that you come out from a game and you're sore,
02:22you're going to, you know, everybody's dealing with, you know, things from the game.
02:24So I wouldn't say that I'm saying anything in particular.
02:27I think just getting back out there and realizing that it's getting ready
02:30for this week of practice.
02:31Drake, I know Mike Vrabel said you guys wanted to meet today
02:33and then let it go after the film session.
02:35How did today go?
02:36And can you use today as a building block?
02:41For sure.
02:42I think it's anytime you're around the team and you get to look in, you know,
02:46in the squad room and look at plays that you feel like you heard the team
02:49and wish you had back, it's also a time for you to realize, you know,
02:53this game is all about, you know, banding together
02:58and realizing that, you know, kind of a similar point we were at last year
03:01and not just, you know, always using last year but using it as a time for us
03:05to band together and realize, especially on offense, you know,
03:09it takes, you know, good plays and consecutive good plays to score in this league
03:14and realizing that there's some out there and we're leaving some out there
03:17and we're moving the football, we're just not finishing.
03:19And that's, you know, the biggest thing that we feel like we kind of left out there yesterday.
03:23You know, we felt like we had a chance to make the score a lot closer
03:26than what it ended up being.
03:27And Mike Vrabel also said he's not worried at all about you knowing what to do formationally,
03:32knowing the plays.
03:33Do you agree with that?
03:33Is that, you know, a good place to start from in terms of awareness
03:36of what's going on around you?
03:38No, I'd hope so.
03:40And how easy is it for you to let a game like yesterday go?
03:45No, I think it's this league.
03:47It's this league.
03:48It's every week.
03:48It's on to the next week and realizing that, you know, stuff from, you know,
03:52weeks past you want to learn from and grow from
03:54and know that, you know, things that get you beat, like,
03:56like turn over the football is not going to be a winning formula.
03:59So realizing that and at the same time of, you know, attacking next week,
04:03you know, nothing I can do about the past.
04:04And the only thing I can control is, you know, getting better for the future.
04:09So, Drake, you know, you've put almost all the blame on yourself.
04:12And is there anything outside of your own play that you believe needs to change
04:17for you to get back to playing the way you did last season?
04:20I think it's hard to me protecting the football.
04:22I mean, it's hard for us to, you know, put points on the board
04:25and you're really moving the football when I'm in danger in it.
04:28So, it starts there.
04:30I think a lot of guys are playing hard.
04:31I think you can see, you know, kind of some good plays on tape
04:35that there's more kind of – there's more juice
04:37and there's more to be out there to go get.
04:41And, you know, it's making the easy ones
04:43and making the throws that will give us a chance to score.
04:47So, I think, you know, from the guys and the guys that I've seen today
04:51and the guys in there today, I think they're just –
04:53we're eager to, you know, put good football on tape
04:55and knowing that that's the best thing for us to do
04:56and the only thing for us to do is to be more consistent
05:00and realize that, you know, all of us being more consistent
05:02will lead to what we want.
05:03You know, there was a report that was out yesterday
05:06that after the game there are a bunch of players coming up
05:09and, you know, giving you words of support
05:11and sticking by and, you know, giving you words of encouragement.
05:15Like, what was that like after the game
05:16and who were some of those people and what did they say?
05:19Yeah, it's awesome to have teammates and guys to, you know,
05:24come out here and support.
05:25And at the same time, I got to, you know, give them something back
05:27and give them something to, you know, realize that, hey, you know,
05:30it's not going to be a scenario where it's going to be me
05:34and I got to, you know, get going here, get going here soon.
05:38And rather than this season, you know, we're earlier in the season,
05:40but, you know, these are the times where you got to start improving.
05:43And it's, you know, it's been September and we got to get going.
05:45I know, Drake, you don't get A.J. Brown back for another couple weeks,
05:48but we had a report that he was walking around in cleats today.
05:51How does he look?
05:51And is he still a big part of planning and part of the offense,
05:55even if he can't get out there with you guys?
05:57Yeah, I mean, it's A.J. Brown.
05:59And he's a great player in this league
06:01and he's going to be a great player for us.
06:04And I got to do my due diligence and look forward to getting him back.
06:10But at the same time, we got to play some football
06:12and kind of hit a stride and just, you know,
06:14kind of add him on to, you know, what we're building, you know,
06:16before he gets back.
06:17What is he doing there?
06:20What is he doing?
06:21Yeah, they said he was there, like, wearing cleats.
06:24What is A.J. Brown doing there?
06:26Oh, I'm not sure.
06:27I'm not sure you'd have to ask him.
06:29Oh, okay.
06:29So you haven't seen him down there?
06:32I've seen him around the locker room, yeah.
06:34Oh, okay.
06:35All right.
06:35I just, if he's wearing cleats,
06:37does that usually mean that they're practicing?
06:39Or I just, I don't know.
06:42I've never been in a locker room where a guy wears cleats
06:44if he's not practicing.
06:47Well, we didn't practice today,
06:48so I'm not really sure where you're asking.
06:49I don't think he's in the locker room and cleats running routes.
06:53Is that what you're asking?
06:54I wasn't sure.
06:55As I said, it was a weird report that came out.
06:57I'm like, why is a guy wearing cleats over at the locker room?
06:59All right.
06:59So, Drake, finally,
07:02when you watch last year's film compared to this year's film,
07:05what's the biggest difference that you see in yourself as a quarterback?
07:10I don't think at this moment in time
07:12that you're watching much from last year.
07:13You know, this is a new year, new season,
07:15and we've got to get ready for our opponent.
07:17So I'm not going to go back and, you know,
07:19watch tape from last year and try to, you know,
07:22look back at a highlight film.
07:24You know, I've got to focus on a team and focus on Buffalo,
07:26and we've got a tough challenge on the road.
07:28All right, Drake.
07:29Right now it is time for Ask May Anything,
07:31which is our listeners end up leaving us messages,
07:34and they can ask Drake anything, usually not about football,
07:37and it's brought to you by Northeast Men's Health,
07:38the experts in treating men's sexual health
07:40with seven New England locations.
07:42Learn more at northeastmenshealth.com,
07:44or let's go to question number one.
07:46Hey, Drake.
07:46Matt from Hyde Park.
07:48Curious how your golf game was this past summer,
07:50and what are a couple of your favorite courses in Massachusetts?
07:57Yeah, it's kind of the same deal with golf.
08:00It kind of, you know, I don't play for the whole, you know, football season,
08:03and right before football season, I hang them up,
08:06and that's when I start playing my best golf.
08:08So I kind of stay in the same range.
08:10My golf game's not too great, but I can hit it around.
08:14Favorite courses around here, I played the Cup to Club once.
08:16It was sweet, and then I played Old Sandwich out there was nice.
08:19So I played a few of the ones.
08:20Some on the cake were great.
08:22So I haven't played much around here, but I played a little bit.
08:24What's your handicap?
08:28If I were to play right now, I'd probably be in the teens, probably.
08:30So if I got there, I'll shoot in the mid-80s.
08:33Oh, impressive, man.
08:34Yeah, I just, I swear.
08:37I suck.
08:38Like, every time I go out there, I bring, like, a box of 25 balls,
08:41and that way if I hit him in the woods, I don't even go after him.
08:43I'm essentially one of those guys who just picks up half the balls
08:46that I end up playing out there.
08:47I'm no good, Drake.
08:48All right, let's go to question number two.
08:50Let's go.
08:51Ask anything to Drake May.
08:53How do you silence the noise?
08:56That's a good question.
08:58I go out there and put good football on tape.
09:01I think it's things we've done here, and it starts with, you know,
09:04me making good decisions and starting to practice.
09:07I think there's really, there's no way to give something for the fans
09:11to cheer for and give something for my teammates to rally around me
09:14and this offense and realizing that we haven't put out our best football yet
09:19and realizing that there's a lot of chance for us to improve and grow,
09:22but at the same time, it needs to start showing up.
09:24All right, let's ask one more question.
09:26This is from Ask May Anything.
09:28As a lifelong Bostonian, I've been told that what passes for barbecue around here
09:33is somewhat lackluster.
09:35In your opinion, what's the best barbecue inside the 495 Beltway?
09:40Have you had any good barbecue around here, and where would you get it?
09:45Ooh, I haven't even had any barbecue around here.
09:48You know, I'm stuck to my North Carolina roots.
09:50I know there's some barbecue down here every time we'll, every now and then,
09:53we'll have some brisket or some pulled pork down here in the training room.
09:58But really, I think, you know, I try to pick my southern ways of barbecue
10:02and not try to, you know, ruin that for me.
10:04There's one legitimate place, but it's about to shut down, unfortunately,
10:07and it's Sweet Cheeks Barbecue that's over by Fenway Park.
10:09It's legitimately excellent because I think the people came from Texas
10:14and went there, and it's been there for years.
10:16But if you want it, Drake, unfortunately, you only got two more months,
10:19so you're going to have to door-dash it or something like that.
10:21But we can't wait until the season's over.
10:23Oh, man.
10:24Yep, it's a good spot.
10:25All right, well, Drake May, thanks for joining us.
10:27We appreciate it.
10:28And, you know, hopefully during the Bills, listen,
10:31you had good luck against them last season,
10:33so maybe that will be the game where everything gets turned around, Drake.
10:37Sounds good. Thank you, guys.
