00:00This is the condition of roads in the community at Upper Kunapo Road in coal mine, Sangre Grandi.
00:05Residents say the roads have been in this condition for a number of years and they are fed up of
00:11the inconveniences it causes them.
00:13Speaking with TV6 when we visited the area today, Charles Castle says the condition of the road is now causing
00:19multiple problems for the community.
00:21We have serious problems in the world. The road itself is years and years and years.
00:30This situation here is more than two years. More than two years.
00:35The situation here with the road with the water here where students can't pass, going on for the longest while.
00:43We had a problem with getting water but that has been rectified somewhat so we get a fairly decent water
00:51supply.
00:51But the issue we have in this community is the road and as I say, a big accident waiting to
00:59happen here.
01:00Castle refers to this pothole which he warns could cause a serious accident because it is barely visible at night
01:06time.
01:06Castle says a wasser line that supplies the community can be seen at the bottom of the hole and if
01:11that is damaged it will present yet another challenge for the community.
01:15There is a four inch line that is here. It is just a matter of time before that line breaks.
01:21When that line breaks, we will not be able to get water in here.
01:25Right now the hole that you see there, when you come in, we villagers put this here because if you
01:32are driving in and you are not careful, you are going to end up down in that sink hole.
01:36That hole, not a sink hole, but that hole. So we put a piece of plastic there to ward people
01:43off to stay away from it.
01:45And with the new school term beginning in the middle of the rainy season, this presents a major hurdle for
01:50the children of the community.
01:52When it rains, the kids that go to school here, from here, they can't cross here because the water comes
02:02and settles here.
02:02So they've got to go through the bush to get to head out to go to school.
02:08The residents also say that logging operations are only making the road issues worse.
02:13Well, the logging that's going on there, that will only exacerbate the problems with the road because you're pulling logs.
02:24And the road isn't, well, you see the road, so you know the condition the road ends.
02:28So logging and reloaning exacerbate the problem.
02:32Castle says residents are calling on their MP, Shavana Sam, the regional corporation, and their councillor, Calvin Cicharan, to assist
02:41in getting the road fixed.
02:43TV6 made attempts to contact MP for the Komoto-Manzanilla area, Shavana Sam, for comment on the situation.
02:49However, those attempts prove futile.
