00:00Leonard averaged 47 games in his seven seasons with the club.
00:05Pretty steep.
00:06Then I give you Deshaun Watson.
00:08It's massively steep.
00:10I want to say that it's all done and that this is a worse trade.
00:17But if Deshaun Watson were playing well,
00:21we ain't trading away Myles Garrett.
00:23I have to make Myles Garrett part of this.
00:26If you're throwing in Shea Gilgis-Alexander,
00:29if Dan's throwing in SGA,
00:32then don't I have to throw in the Myles Garrett trade?
00:34Because there's no guarantee they would have got right.
00:37There's no guarantee.
00:38Here's the issue with that.
00:40Myles was just not going to be happy on a team he didn't think could win the Super Bowl, obviously.
00:45And the Browns were still looking for their quarterback.
00:48But is the assumption that if we don't do the Deshaun Watson deal,
00:52that Baker is still here?
00:54Because I do not assume that at all.
00:55I do.
00:56Oh, I do not.
00:57Oh, I do.
00:58Especially after he bottomed out, after he left the Browns.
01:00Oh, no, I do.
01:01Because, okay.
01:02I mean, look how bad he was in Carolina.
01:04I consistently have to defend myself because I keep going,
01:07no, I didn't want to make the trade.
01:08No, I didn't want to make the trade.
01:09And people go, you said nasty things about Baker.
01:12Yeah, because you know what?
01:13They were true.
01:14Okay?
01:14They were true in 2021.
01:16So, I don't take back anything that I said.
01:19The thing that I correct everybody on is that I said, bring in a veteran for competition.
01:24We got to get going with this.
01:26So, if there is a hand that's, if there were a Kirk Cousins, bring in a Kirk Cousins.
01:32Something like that.
01:34And then, Baker would have been healthy?
01:36Would Baker have had a good, I don't know.
01:37He seems to play pretty well when he has a chip on his shoulder and he's healthy.
01:40So, I can take that.
01:42I still think Baker would be here.
01:43I think we'd be having knockdown drag outs about how good Baker really is.
01:47I think it'd be a hell of a lot more fun than talking about a guy who's a pariah to
01:51the fan base
01:51and who's a broken quarterback and another guy where you can't even breathe his name
01:56without people cussing you out on the internet.
02:02But, I think he'd still be here.
02:04You don't think he'd still be here?
02:05It's tough because the Browns, whether or not they make a trade for Deshaun Watson
02:11or don't make a trade for Deshaun Watson, it just would have been a lot of years for Miles Garrett.
02:17What did he end up playing for the Browns?
02:18How many years was he here?
02:20Nine.
02:21Nine years?
02:21That's a long period of time for anyone.
02:23So, what would we have done to become Super Bowl contenders for Miles Garrett?
02:30I don't know.
02:31What would have been the lever?
02:32Would it have been Kirk Cousins?
02:34Would we go to the playoffs more than we have?
02:36Like, 2023 would not be the only playoff season we've had with Baker Mayfield.
02:40Oh, don't even look like that.
02:41I don't know. Baker was terrible the next year.
02:42He was terrible.
02:43So, they would not have made the playoffs.
02:44Okay, he was.
02:46But remember, he was given up on.
02:48All right?
02:49And then he did get it back.
02:51If they wouldn't have given up on him, he would have been healthy.
02:53He would have been in a competition.
02:55No, there's no guarantee.
02:56I should go back and say there's no guarantee he would be here.
02:59But I still think he would be here.
03:02Of course, had they had done it or had they had not made the trade, does he still –
03:09Did he ask for the trade before they actually consummated the trade with Deshaun Watson?
03:15Nothing was public on that.
03:17Okay.
03:17Because I thought once they traded for Deshaun Watson was when he requested the trade, demanded the trade.
03:23I thought it was when they first made the offer.
03:23It was when they made the ovation to Deshaun.
03:25Okay.
03:26So, yeah, you can request a trade all you want.
03:28Andrew Barry has proven time and time again.
03:30Kareem Hunt wanted a trade.
03:31David Njoku wanted three different trades.
03:33You can say whatever you want.
03:35It ain't going to happen.
03:36So, he could have requested a trade and you could have said, hold your horses right now.
03:40And, yeah, it could have been out there that we were shopping around.
03:42It wouldn't have been great for him.
03:44Now, he could have taken a nosedive because that year, that 2022 season for him, wasn't a good one.
03:53Started out in Carolina, ended with the Rams, ended up on an up note.
03:58But in 2023, a lot of people just thought he was a placeholder in the draft for the draft for
04:02Tampa Bay.
04:03And he's become, I can't call him a franchise quarterback down there.
04:09Yeah, he can.
04:10He's been a franchise quarterback.
04:11If he was a franchise quarterback, would there be any question about his contract?
04:16I don't know.
04:17No, there wouldn't.
04:18I think he qualifies for a franchise quarterback.
04:22You're using a pretty loose definition of franchise quarterback for a guy who usually sees just black and white and
04:26likes to argue here.
04:27This is something.
04:28I can just say I don't think he's a super, I don't think he can win a Super Bowl with
04:32him.
04:32That's different.
04:33There are different levels, and I have him in that franchise level.
04:36I think if he were to get moved to another team, he'd be their franchise quarterback for a couple of
04:42years.
04:43But I still, I just look at it.
04:44Is he a free agent technically at the end of the year?
04:47Yes, he is.
04:48You would never let a franchise quarterback put him in a position to become a free agent.
04:52It saves you money down the line.
04:54It should save, it should be able to put teammates around him down the line.
04:57You don't do that.
04:58So we're doing a lot of history here, and we're trying to just not make it revisionist.
05:03But that all being pointed out, it still goes back to the trade.
05:06Was the Deshaun Watson trade the worst trade over Kawhi Leonard, or has Kawhi Leonard's trade overtaken him?
05:12The fact that the Shea Gilgis part of that, and all these draft picks that seemingly will bury the Clippers
05:20for years to come.
05:21The Browns are not buried for years to come.
05:23No, they're not.
05:24Because of the Watson deal.
05:25We got two first-round picks next year.
05:26Like, yes, it has not been pretty the last few years.
05:29Now, a lot of that's because of injury, and yet Kawhi never really was playing the full 82 for them
05:33either.
05:34But Kawhi is still a really good player.
05:36Deshaun Watson has not been.
05:38So that's the edge to us for having the worst trade.
05:42But the fact that it will eventually be 10 years, 10 years straight of basketball where the Clippers were not
05:51getting to where they thought they were going to get to making that deal.
05:54Did they ever boo Kawhi Leonard at home?
05:57No.
05:58At the old arena or the new arena?
06:00Yeah.
06:00Did they ever do any of those things?
06:02No, they did not.
06:03All right.
06:04That's got to be taken into consideration.
06:06I don't know if their fans are as invested in their second banana in that town.
06:12That's a fair point.
06:14But, again, if you're going to put Shea Gilders-Alexander in the mix, then I have to put the Myles
06:18Garrett trade in the mix.
06:20And so if the Myles Garrett trade's in the mix, well, that still hurts our argument that the Kawhi Leonard
06:25deal can take over.
06:27Even though, man, you're not into – they're into 2033 first-round picks.
06:31You know what?
06:32As an aside, do you feel bad for their real fans?
06:35Every team has fans.
06:36I always feel bad for real fans of bad organizations.
06:39If you're a fan, the problem with these kind of penalties is all these executives are going to be out.
06:45Ballmer, who knows?
06:46I almost think they should force him to sell the team.
06:48That's the penalty.
06:49Why?
06:50Even though he'll make a lot of money on it because every owner does, so it's not like a financial
06:53penalty.
06:54But he clearly wants to own a team.
06:56He didn't need the team to be able to experience life as a billionaire.
07:01He obviously is the richest owner of all those guys anyway.
07:05But why penalize the team, the team's fans?
07:10Why not just penalize the owner?
07:12That's the one problem with when you strip all these draft picks.
07:15That's because the owner doesn't care.
07:18If you just –
07:19Yeah, make him get rid of the team then.
07:20He wants to win, and that's a possibility, but you're still going to incur those penalties.
07:24See, they need to make it hurt the owner.
07:26It hurts the owner because they know that the owner wants to win.
07:29And most owners do want to win in some case.
07:32There's a lot of owners who don't care.
07:33That's one person, not the millions of fans, that have to pay the real price.
07:40They're the ones paying the price now.
07:42They didn't do anything wrong.
07:44They didn't do anything wrong.
07:45But their owner did something wrong.
07:47They got to deal with it.
07:49We didn't do anything wrong.
07:50Most fans did not.
07:52I don't think that most fans –
07:53No, there were most fans that didn't.
07:54There is still a majority of fans, and they will run away from this,
07:57that thought that Baker Mayfield was used up.
07:59But there was a majority of fans that did not want to make that trade.
08:02Well, they didn't make the trade.
08:03The Browns did.
08:05And Browns fans are the ones left holding the bag any time they make a decision.
08:09So that's a bad rabbit hole.
08:11And, yeah, of course I feel bad.
08:12I feel bad about all the situations, even if they're not great,
08:15tremendously well-known fan bases.
08:16Like Jacksonville, I can say to move Jacksonville all the time.
08:19Am I going to go to Orange Beach and tell a fan who was a Jacksonville season ticket holder
08:23that, yeah, your team doesn't matter.
08:24Move them to London.
08:25I don't have the heart to do that.
08:26That's psychotic.
08:28Especially since where we're from.
08:29I'm just saying that, to me, they're doing it as a deterrent, right, for other teams.
08:35Yes.
08:35I understand that.
08:36What teams are even going to want to mess with this if you have the chance?
08:39So that will be effective.
08:41Problem is the owner still gets to be the owner, suspension or not.
08:44Like, that's the issue with this.
08:46And I almost think, all right, yeah, let there be a couple of first-round picks.
08:51But in the end, you're just penalizing fans.
08:54You're just telling fans not to pay attention to their team for how many years.
08:57How is that good for the sport?
08:58That's true.
08:58How is it good when superstars are going to go and teams are going to go into that arena,
09:04that beautiful new arena that they specifically tailored for basketball, one of the crown jewels of the league?
09:11What are they going to do when nobody's at these games because the team is irrelevant?
09:15Think about this, though.
09:16That's the real punishment.
09:17That's true.
09:18But when I think about it, you have to take any sort of good silver lining you can if you're
09:22a Clipper fan.
09:23Because remember, when I tell people, when they ask me, and it even happens Saturday,
09:29Kenny, what do you really think of Jimmy Haslam?
09:31I go, I know he wants to win.
