00:0016-year-old Zahani Hazel says earning 10 grade ones in the CSEC examinations came with sacrifice, hard work and
00:10the unwavering support of his parents, primary school teacher Tracy McMillan and economist Dr. Selvon Hazel of the Division of
00:18Finance.
00:19The Bishop's high school student has some advice for other students who hope to achieve similar success. Zahani, who has
00:28his sights set on becoming a mechanical engineer, says he is determined to continue working hard towards his dream.
00:36Okay, I think that they should make the necessary sacrifices to be successful. You can't just do nothing and expect
00:45to succeed. You have to sacrifice your time. You might have to sacrifice some relationships, some hobbies, temper. You have
00:56to make the necessary sacrifices. You have to put in the work, the hours, make sure you're well prepared.
01:03His mother, primary school teacher at the Mount St. George Methodist Primary School, said she remains excited and relieved. She
01:12added, Zahani's father, Dr. Selvon Hazel, played a critical role in their son's success.
01:19And I can tell you that his father, Dr. Selvon Hazel, has been a driving force. He is very, very
01:29much involved in his life, especially his academic life. So as both parents, we work together to try to ensure
01:41that he gets the best of everything. And Zahani is very focused.
01:47Meanwhile, Tobago's 2025 Caribbean Tourism Organization Regional Junior Minister of Tourism, Jolay St. John of Bishop's High School, is also
01:58celebrating an outstanding CSEC performance, earning nine grade ones.
02:04She credits her success to consistency, strong support from those around her, and her determination to strive for excellence.
02:14I mostly feel very humbled and grateful, grateful to all of the 39 teachers that taught me throughout my entire
02:22five years at Bishop's High School.
02:23I'm grateful for the way they invested in me. I'm grateful for the way they parented me, because they're not
02:28just teachers who delivered a syllabus.
02:30They would have guided me through those five years, given me words of inspiration.
02:34And of course, they would have imparted so much knowledge to me. So it's not just once for me. It's
02:40a success for all of them.
02:42Her mother, Triscilla St. John, has this message for parents.
02:46The message is really for parents. Provide the support. Allow the children to navigate. And yes, they may make decisions
02:54that we're not comfortable about all the time.
02:57But have a discussion. Understand why they're reporting into that area. And understand by evaluating and paying attention to identify
03:05their strengths and weaknesses,
03:06so that you can provide that strict counsel that they require, and for when all is not going well.
03:12Also excelling, Deja Joseph, who earned eight ones, four in Unit 1 and four in Unit 2, is off to
03:22Jamaica's Mona Campus to pursue a B.S.C. in Actual Science.
03:28At the Signal Hill Secondary School, major success is in Cape achievements. 22 subjects, 18 with 100% pass rate,
03:38and an average pass rate of 98.3%.
