15-year-old Diamond Young is a young entrepreneur whose journey began not from privilege, but from perseverance. After facing disciplinary issues at the Signal Hill Secondary school, principal Arianne D'abreau Forde offered him a powerful challenge, to channel his energy into building something meaningful. Elizabeth Williams spoke with the student and has this report.

00:00After being suspended for a week and realizing that he needed to control his temper,
00:07Diamond Young, a Form 4 student of the Signal Hill Secondary School,
00:11told TV6 News he vowed to himself never to get suspended again.
00:17I didn't like how I get suspended because that could affect your records and things,
00:22and I didn't like it.
00:23And the steps had to go on to make my business.
00:25I went on and going through steps on how and where I should begin starting on the business.
00:33Diamond rose to the occasion, crafting a solid and innovative business plan.
00:39Recognizing his determination and potential, the principal secured a sponsor just as promised.
00:46A dream come true for him, taking full advantage of the opportunities afforded to him,
00:51the birth of Diamond Era Tech.
00:54Basically, we're selling refurbished phones and fixing them, and I want to start to, like, fix iCloud.
01:02Tell us, how do you feel as a student moving from indiscipline to non-entrepreneurship?
01:09It feels really good.
01:10I always had a dream to, like, become my own, like, more like being well-being offed into, like, life.
01:18I always see myself, like, high up, and to get this opportunity, I want to take it with full strength.
01:24Today, Diamond has partnered with a group of dedicated teachers and earned a $5,000 contribution from a local business leader.
01:34His venture is already taking root, driven by his brilliance, discipline, and newfound purpose.
01:40What began as a turning point has become a testimony to what young people can achieve when they are given a second chance and the right support.
01:51And I decided to dig deep, and it is through my deeper conversations with Diamond, I realized that he had this big dream, a passion, to have his own business.
02:02And I challenged him.
02:03I said, OK, if you can come out of this, this negative, I would be willing to find the sponsors in the business community that would be willing to sponsor your business idea.
02:15But you have to do your research, come up with a clear business plan, which he did when he returned from his suspension.
02:24He came back with a brilliant business plan.
02:26He was able to articulate it very clearly, and I immediately set out to work by getting some sponsors.
