00:00Five students from Signal Hill Secondary School placed in the top 10 2024 CAPE
00:06and CSEC regional merit lists in the Caribbean. Principal of Signal Hill
00:12Secondary School Ariana Dabrow Ford told TV6 News that celebrations were
00:18twofold as her daughter was also in winners row. Well for me that was a
00:23challenging role because my daughter was here and being a principal and a mother
00:29at the same time it was quite an experience but with the support of the
00:35teachers I must say that the teachers really supported me they supported my
00:41daughter and so she be she became quite quickly a part of that wider Signal Hill
00:47family. Mrs. Dabrow Ford told the TV6 News she is proud of her students
00:52success. I want to commend all five of the students that would have made the
00:58merit list. I am particularly proud of my daughter who also placed first in the
01:05entire country in literatures in English unit one. I know it is very very very
01:12difficult to obtain a unit one so I am especially proud of that aspect also.
01:18Five students that topped the Caribbean at Signal Hill Secondary. Two of them
01:23Lashon Rodriguez placed seventh regionally in art and design and Esther
01:29Alassar placed fourth in unit one performing arts. I got seventh place in
01:35the Caribbean for art and design unit one and when I saw that I was really
01:41relieved and I was over excited because like I put a lot of hours into art and
01:46to see that it paid off really meant a lot to me. How do you feel? I am ecstatic
01:53yet overwhelmed. I did not think that I could have made such an achievement so
02:00when I saw it I was like I did it but then when I realized like the
02:05achievement I made I just started to cry because it was like the tears, the
02:12hard work that I placed into my performing arts because that's my passion. I love to
02:17dance, sing, act, everything about performing arts it's me. I say performing
02:23arts is my life so when I saw that I placed fourth in the entire Caribbean
02:28region I was just over the moon. Art and design teacher Janelle Carrington
02:34building and mechanical engineering and drawing Stacey Abraham and performing
02:39and theater arts teacher Antoneal Blackman beamed with pride at their
02:45student's success. I am Miss Janelle Carrington and I teach art and design
02:49here at Sydenham Secondary School. How do you feel? It's an additional year of
02:54joy. Sydenham Secondary School we're building up a tradition of excellence
02:59we've done it for quite some time so it's a continuation of that excellence
03:02here on the plant. I'm always elated to see the students work being rewarded
03:08because they really push, they really work hard and it's not an easy feat to
03:12make this but because of their commitment they always do well. I wouldn't
03:16only say listening to Miss Ansel I would say that you know parental support is
03:22also very important you know so this is just to say that in order for students
03:28to do well and to achieve and reach their full potential that there must be
03:33parent support and teacher support working hand-in-hand and that is why
03:37these three students in specific parental support played a specific role
03:43in their achievements. Elizabeth Williams TV6 News
