00:00Hello there, welcome to a Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Today we start with cloud and also some outbreaks of rain.
00:07We'd like to see some heavy pulses of rain coming in across western Scotland
00:11as well as Northern Ireland associated with this low pressure here.
00:14Here's that cloud and persistent rain across the far north of Scotland.
00:18We've seen some high rainfall totals.
00:20Eventually it will deteriorate into showery bursts.
00:23And we've seen cloud and rain move in overnight into the early hours of the morning,
00:28just bumping into Northern Ireland and southern Scotland.
00:31But some higher rainfall totals possible through the day across northern England
00:34as that rain extends southwards, bringing some welcome wet weather to central and southern areas.
00:41So we watch through today as that low pressure sinks southwards.
00:44Again, we could see some high rainfall totals across Northern Ireland and western Scotland
00:48into Wednesday and Thursday morning.
00:51That low pushes down towards England and Wales.
00:53So the focus of those heavy and thundery downpours pretty much across England and Wales
00:59as we inherit a northerly wind from the north there with again some showers.
01:04A wet start across Caithness as well as Orkney.
01:07Showers and a fresh wind for Shetland.
01:10Some fine weather to start the day across eastern counties of Scotland.
01:14But further west, yes, you'll be under that low pressure with showery bursts of rain
01:19which could turn thundery with hail and lightning through the morning.
01:23Some brighter weather perhaps across places such as Dublin and Newry and Belfast as we start the morning.
01:29And certainly there's some showers in the mix across England and Wales as we lose that rain
01:34just clearing towards the low countries.
01:37So let's just backtrack as we see the bigger picture across the whole of the UK
01:41through this morning from 3am.
01:43That rain clears, showers continue across England and Wales.
01:49Showery bursts of rain move in across western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:52So we could see some fairly impactful weather as we head through the morning.
01:57Particularly if you are travelling, surface water issues could be an issue.
02:01Showery bursts of rain then sink down towards Sutherland as well as the Highlands.
02:05And these heavy showers continue through the day.
02:08They will be hit and miss.
02:09But across England and Wales, again, you could see an intense downpour.
02:13We hang on to some warmth across central and eastern areas, 21 to 24 degrees Celsius.
02:1918 for Northern Ireland, 16 or 17 for the central belt of Scotland
02:23and only 13, 14 or 15 across the far north of Scotland
02:26as that northerly wind continues to affect these parts.
02:30So through this evening, here's that occlusion pushing southwards.
02:34Here's that low pressure which is gradually moving towards England and Wales.
02:38And these heavier bursts of rain transferring across northern England as well as Wales,
02:43pushing ever eastwards.
02:45Slow moving with a lighter breeze, but a stronger wind across western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:50The west country also seeing a brisk breeze coming in from the northwest.
02:55Temperatures holding up wherever you are, away from the far north there.
02:58A cool start to the day.
03:00So that's the picture as we enter Thursday morning.
03:03So Thursday, yes, we are expecting some higher rainfall totals across northern England
03:08with thunder, lightning and hail.
03:10Some showers also likely across Wales, the west country associated with this low pressure
03:15which is sitting across the Midlands.
03:17Some brighter skies in between, but that will spark off some showers in situ.
03:20At the same time, yes, you could see some showers just moving in on that brisk northerly wind
03:26across Scotland, frequent showers across the far north and some showers also for Northern Ireland.
03:31But by this point, the bulk of that more unstable air and heavier downpours likely across England
03:38and Wales.
03:39And that's how we see lunchtime and into the afternoon.
03:42A little sunshine in places, but then through the afternoon, the low continues its passage southwards
03:47with temperatures in the south 22 degrees Celsius.
03:50Further north, 15 or 16 Celsius and those showers continue to stream in from the far north.
03:56So that's the picture through Thursday afternoon.
03:59Through Friday, a legacy of the showers continue across more southern areas.
04:03A few showers streaming in from the north, but the winds have lost their strength by this point
04:07and a ridge is attempting to push in from the southwest.
04:11But even into Saturday morning, notice some showers across England and Wales, particularly
04:16more central and southern areas, and a clear, clearer and colder start to the day further
04:21north for the weekend.
04:22But there will be some brighter breaks around.
04:25So that's how we see Saturday.
04:26A few showers, but they will tend to fade away.
04:30Backing track, backtrack to Friday then, a bit more clouds across Scotland.
04:34A few showers in the mix.
04:36They could be heavy across more southern areas.
04:37And temperatures typically 18 to 21 degrees Celsius across England and Wales.
04:42Average temperatures into the weekend, but expect some chilly nights.
04:46There will be some brighter breaks around, if not some sunshine, and we will lose that shower
04:50risk as well.
04:51Wherever you are, have a good Wednesday and I'll see you again soon.
04:54Bye bye.
