00:00Imagine spending hours crafting the perfect emails only to realize that half your emails are landing in the spam folder
00:09because you didn't set up the domain, you didn't authenticate your domain.
00:15And when you do authenticate a domain, it really drastically can improve the deliverability of your emails so they get
00:23read and looked at. And that's important.
00:28Okay. So I want to kind of walk you through exactly how to do that with System.io. And the
00:35first step is you want to create a free account with System.io. It's an amazing platform and it's free.
00:43You can send as many emails as you want for free. You have to spend a penny. There are a
00:48few catches. You might be wondering, well, what's the catch?
00:51Well, there are a couple. One is on your landing page, you have to stick this little Power by System
00:57.io sticker on it. And there's no way to get rid of it. I've tried. I've done everything you can
01:03think about. There's no way to get rid of that thing.
01:06However, it's actually a positive because you can get paid for this as well because it's an affiliate link so
01:11you make money. So that's one kind of negative that they have.
01:15Number two is you can only have one automation with a free plan. But of course, that's all you really
01:21need. You could get more and I kind of created this app here that explains what you get if you
01:27pay money.
01:28But you've got to admit, that's pretty cool. You know, when I got started trying to make money like 20
01:33years ago, all these autoresponders and systems, they cost a lot more money.
01:38Now, Dave, the prices have pretty much gone down a ton because you'll have to compete with other things like
01:46Substack came around, right?
01:47So they have to compete. So anyways, the first thing is you create your free account. All right.
01:53Now you have that. You want to authenticate your domain. Okay. And when you log in, let's see here.
02:02I'll move this. And you go up to your profile picture and you go to settings. There's this list of,
02:08you know, menus here.
02:10You want to click on email and you'll get to this right here, domains. Click here to authenticate your domain.
02:16It displays information in your email header. And it says, you know, this will improve your email deliverability rates so
02:24they get seen.
02:25Okay. That's where you want to go. And then you will enter in your domain. Okay.
02:32Now, if you don't have a domain, it's a pretty good idea to purchase a domain.
02:36And the good news is there's even a place, and I share this here on this post, where you can
02:41get a domain for 99 cents.
02:44And I get it, guys and girls. I'm very frugal myself. I don't want to spend money.
02:48But for 99 cents, you get a lot. For starters, your email deliverability can really skyrocket.
02:55And you own something online. And I think that's an amazing feeling.
03:00And take it from somebody like me who's tried lots of things, like a Reddit group.
03:06I built this huge Reddit group, 8,000 members.
03:08And then all of a sudden, someone posted something one day.
03:11And the next day, I didn't even know what was posted.
03:14They canceled me. Boom. I'm out. Right?
03:16You know, I've lost Quora accounts, Medium accounts.
03:19I even lost a YouTube channel. It was actually pretty big.
03:22Now, of course, that was my own personal mistake with losing my computer in a foreign country.
03:27But you get my point.
03:29So having a domain is kind of like a sense of security.
03:33And it's the same thing with, you know, collecting and building a list.
03:37It's a sense of security because it's free.
03:40For starters, I can give you a massive list of reasons why you want to build a list.
03:45But it bypasses a lot of these platforms that are constantly evolving and changing.
03:51So you're not as dependent on them.
03:53It opens up a new source of traffic for yourself, which will help you.
03:58It can only help you.
04:00All right.
04:02So that's why you want to have a domain.
04:06And that's step number two.
04:09And step number three is, this is the part that can kind of get tricky,
04:15is you want to check where your domain DNS records are hosted.
04:21And even though I purchased a domain from GoDaddy,
04:25and there's other places you can purchase it from,
04:27I'm hosting it on another place called DreamHost.
04:31And I really like DreamHost.
04:32It's very inexpensive.
04:33There are better hosting companies that are faster.
04:37But if you're just getting started, you know,
04:39it's better to crawl before you walk, before you run type of thing.
04:42And as you can see here, they give you a lot of amazing stuff with it.
04:46And the best part is when things have happened,
04:50I've reached out to them, and they've walked me through how to fix it.
04:54So it's like another security thing that's a peace of mind.
04:59Interestingly enough, and I'm going to have to share this with you,
05:02there's actually free hosting out there.
05:03And I'm like, oh, I'm frugal.
05:05I'm looking at these free hosting.
05:06What's that about, right?
05:08But there's some bad stuff with free hosting,
05:10and I actually wrote a whole post about it,
05:12and I kind of share that here.
05:13I'm still curious, like, what's up with this free hosting?
05:16Why am I paid for it if I can get it for free?
05:19You know, right?
05:21So I kind of put this in here.
05:23All right.
05:23And if you're not sure, you know, where in the heck you're, you know,
05:30where you're hosted to, you can actually go to, like, GoDaddy,
05:35or where your domain is, right?
05:37And you click on domain, then DNS,
05:39and it'll tell you, like, where your name servers are pointed to.
05:43It's kind of like where they point the domain to.
05:46And to me, it's DreamHost, okay?
05:49And that's where you want to go.
05:51Now, obviously, if you're hosting it on, like, GoDaddy or something like that,
05:55then you would go through GoDaddy.
05:56I hope that makes sense.
05:58I hope that's not too complex.
06:00But that's how that works.
06:02So you want to go to who's hosting it.
06:05And then you want to simply add the records, okay?
06:07And the records that you'll get from System.io when you go through these steps,
06:13that's your, right, you know, when you enter your domain,
06:16it'll tell you the records.
06:19And, yeah.
06:22And then what you want to do is I found it over in DreamHost.
06:26I went over to Manage Websites, then DNS,
06:30and then here's where you add the records, okay?
06:33And you can see the System.io, the CNAME right here at Record,
06:38as well as the Text Record, okay?
06:41And that's it.
06:42That's all you do.
06:43Now, there are a few common mistakes that some people make,
06:46which I kind of want to go over real quickly.
06:50And number one is the big mistake that some people make
06:55is they will enter in the entire thing they give them,
06:59even, like, the domain that they have, right?
07:02Mine is trust the link.
07:03But they'll enter that.
07:04They don't want that.
07:05They just want the beginning part, right?
07:08So, for example, if the host is this.yourdomain.com,
07:14just put in the end until your domain.
07:19Don't put in the domain because it's already here.
07:21Hope that makes sense.
07:23So that's a mistake that some people make.
07:26Number two is if you already have a DMARC text record
07:30for some other service, it invalidates both.
07:33So you just want to edit it.
07:35You only want one.
07:38And number three, and this is a mistake.
07:41I think I actually might have experienced this myself,
07:44is if the system.io wants a dot at the end,
07:47you just want to make sure you put that dot at the end, right?
07:51So, for example, if you enter this in it,
07:55instead you want to put in the dot.
07:58And if I remember right, this happened to me
08:00where it wasn't validating,
08:02and this was, like, a long time ago,
08:03and I put the dot at the end, and it worked.
08:06So if everything's right,
08:08and for some reason the stupid thing's not validating,
08:11maybe try the dot thing, you know?
08:15Maybe you're missing the dot,
08:16or you put a dot in there,
08:17and you're not supposed to put a dot in there.
08:19It seems kind of stupid,
08:20but sometimes those little things, you know,
08:23trip it up.
08:25Okay.
08:26And the last mistake is,
08:28it can actually take 15 minutes to 24 hours,
08:3148 hours,
08:32for the DNS, like, update across all the servers
08:36in the world and stuff.
08:38So, you know, some people expect it to happen
08:41in one or two minutes,
08:42and that's not how it works.
08:44It could take some time, okay?
08:45You have to be a little bit patient.
08:47Now that you did all that,
08:49now comes the fun part.
08:50You can kind of go back over here to System.io,
08:53and then there's like a little button that will say,
08:56like, check if it's verified or, you know, whatever.
08:59And if you click that button,
09:01and then it will tell you if it's verified or not,
09:03if I can verify that domain.
09:06And if it is verified, you'll see this.
09:08Like, my domain's verified.
09:09It's verified right there.
09:10And if it's not,
09:11then you might have to wait a little bit longer.
09:13And I think what happened with me is,
09:16after 15 minutes,
09:17I hit it and it didn't work.
09:18And like once an hour,
09:19I'll check it.
09:20And after, I think,
09:20like two hours,
09:21it worked.
09:22So usually,
09:22it's not going to take 48 hours,
09:24but it could take like one or two days.
09:27And that's okay if it does take that.
09:29After 48 hours,
09:31then maybe you did something wrong,
09:32and you have to go back and troubleshoot it
09:34and figure that out.
09:37So I hope that kind of works.
09:40And that will help you get your emails delivered,
09:44which is an amazing accomplishment, okay?
