00:00The Red Sox are red hot and rolling, 31-5 in the last 36 games.
00:05But don't fret, Yankees fans.
00:07The Yankees cavalry is coming, and they're bringing hell with them.
00:11Speaking of gunslinging, Carson Beck came out firing in the Hall of Fame game.
00:16We'll break it down and break down the NFC West.
00:19And if you're an NFL running back, you're likely very rich.
00:22We're digging into all the new deals around the league.
00:25Cash moves everything around me on Shine Time right now.
00:30Don't stop, keep it coming, baby.
00:33Don't stop.
00:35On the way.
00:37Off the middle, base hit!
00:39Here he comes!
00:40Sogard rounding to throw home!
00:43And a Sox win again!
00:45What a wild ride on a roller coaster tonight!
00:59Yeah, if I was a Red Sox player, I would be cursing up a storm and dancing like no other
01:04two.
01:04And a season that is absolutely turned upside down in a wonderful way for the Boston Red Sox
01:10as they go from the biggest joke and embarrassment and all of baseball on Memorial Day to being
01:16an absolute wagon right now.
01:19And that was, to me, without question last night, the win of the year in a turnaround for
01:26the ages by the Boston Red Sox.
01:28And if you needed more signs from the sports gods and from the universe on why this team
01:34is going to the World Series, I want you to stare at this, right?
01:39Look at all these deficits.
01:41Look at the fact that they were down in the ninth inning and they won in extras.
01:46I mean, 7-6 in the ninth, and then to be able to win on that Dern line drive, the
01:54single
01:54that plated the game-winning run, and they celebrate like no other.
01:59And as we showed that video of the walk-off for the Boston Red Sox, you know what really
02:04hit me?
02:05The crowd.
02:06The energy.
02:08I mean, New England's living room, Fenway Park, and I'm a diehard Yankee fan saying
02:12this, right?
02:13And I do love the new stadium.
02:14There's nothing like baseball at Fenway Park.
02:18There's nothing like baseball when the Red Sox are hot and they're winning.
02:23And this team was so bad and so atrocious and just an unmitigated disaster and an eyesore
02:29and just a fiasco for basically the first half of the baseball season.
02:35And I think it's kind of crazy here if you stop and think about it.
02:38On June the 24th, the Boston Red Sox were 15 and a half games behind the New York Yankees.
02:4915 and a half games.
02:52And then in a four-game series, the awful atrocious Red Sox swept the Yankees.
02:58And on the shine time on Monday, that Monday, we made a big deal about it from a New York
03:04perspective, from a Yankee perspective.
03:06Oh, you can't lose to the worst Red Sox team that we've seen in literally decades, like
03:12four or five decades.
03:13That's how bad the Red Sox were.
03:15That proved to be a spark.
03:17They've turned it around.
03:19It's unbelievable.
03:20And then they make the trade, obviously, for the best relief pitcher available and for
03:26Rushman.
03:27And look at this.
03:28They're a half game behind the Yankees.
03:30A half game.
03:31On June 24th, 15 and a half by the Yankees.
03:35Now they enter play today a half game behind.
03:39They have won eight straight games, nine straight series.
03:42All they do is win.
03:45And it's remarkable.
03:46And in a year where the American League stinks, it's wide open.
03:53You know, for the last wild card spot, you have five teams that are all in the mix.
03:57None of them are over 500.
03:59That tells you all you need to know.
04:01If they would have lost last night, it would have been, it is what it is.
04:06No Red Sox fan would have been critical in any way, shape, or form.
04:09You already won this series against the Chicago White Sox.
04:13But instead, they sweep away the White Sox, who are a playoff team.
04:17They swept L.A., the big bad Dodgers, in Los Angeles last weekend.
04:22The Red Hot Red Sox are absolutely on fire.
04:25It's incredible to watch.
04:27I mean, you look at the nuggets of domination and jubilation for the Boston Red Sox.
04:31You watch them play.
04:33I mean, that was the win of the year, if you're a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
04:39And honestly, I just, I can't get enough from a Red Sox standpoint.
04:44And as a Yankee fan, I'm just sick.
04:46Because, you know, now you've got the A's coming to town when you look at it for Boston.
04:51Meanwhile, the Yankees have the piping hot Atlanta Braves coming to town.
04:55And the Braves have won eight in a row.
04:57And you look at the Yankees, right, and they can't hit if they, they can't hit water if they fell
05:04out of a boat.
05:05The Yankee rotation is why the Yankees will always have a chance.
05:09Even though there's no judge walking through that door, no belly walking through that door,
05:13no Stanton walking through that door this weekend.
05:15But you've got Freed Friday, you've got Cole Saturday, you've got Cam Schlittler on Sunday.
05:23And when you're facing the second-best team in the National League, record-wise, with the Atlanta Braves,
05:29obviously, because of the pitching, you're absolutely positively going to have a chance.
05:35So, that's pretty awesome.
05:37But this is also going to be, I think, a nice little glimpse in terms of a litmus test.
05:43And, you know, the Yankees got some good news.
05:46You know, when Judd said, I'll be back.
05:48And, you know, he went all Arnold Schwarzenegger on us.
05:52Listen, he's not coming back this weekend.
05:55Let's see what Freed and Cole and Schlittler could do.
05:58Let's see if the Yankees get any kind of offense.
06:00Let's see about the defense.
06:02And, obviously, Lombard Jr. has helped them.
06:05I mean, this is why you can never eliminate the Yankees from any kind of conversation
06:09because of this kind of absolute gem rotation with the big three.
06:15And they're all going to be pitching going up against this juggernaut Braves team.
06:19And the Braves last night, you know, they were able to win.
06:21Acuna Jr., a couple of homers, Olsen a homer.
06:24The Braves have won eight in a row.
06:26But look at these nuggets of futility.
06:28I mean, this is embarrassing.
06:31I mean, absolute disgrace.
06:33One run in their last seven games didn't come courtesy of a homer, error, or the ghost runner.
06:39Just think about that for a second.
06:41What a jamming sentence and nugget.
06:45Only four players have more than one RBI, a single, double, triple sacrifice.
06:52And it's just amazing when you look at it.
06:54And you're talking about Caballero.
06:56I mean, it's only one who's on the roster right now.
06:58It is a complete and utter disgrace, a joke, an embarrassment.
07:03I love Lombard.
07:04I love the juice that he brings to the table.
07:06I love what our guy Ben Rice brings to the table.
07:08And I'm a jazz guy.
07:10I think jazz chisel man's energy.
07:12He can't hit water if he fell out of a boat.
07:14So, I mean, who do you trust if you're the Yankees right now?
07:17Who do you trust on offense?
07:20I mean, do you trust Trent Grisham?
07:22Do you trust Ryan McMahon?
07:24I mean, who do you actually want?
07:26Do you trust Austin Wells digging into the batter's box?
07:30You look at the Yankees, look at the Red Sox, look at where they are right now.
07:33Honestly, it is impossible.
07:36Even with Freed and even with Cole and even with Schlittler, it is impossible to believe
07:42that the Yankees can win a series against the piping hot Atlanta Braves.
07:46It is impossible to believe.
07:47And I'm not overreacting.
07:49We said this after the trade deadline.
07:52Boston's going to finish ahead of the Yankees in the standings.
07:55And Boston has real World Series vibes.
07:58And look, this year it's going to be beyond wide open in theory.
08:03There is no case today as we speak for any other team in the American League other than Boston.
08:09It's as simple as that.
08:11You know, the Rays, obviously, they're in first.
08:13And, you know, the Red Sox still have a ways to go to catch them.
08:16If I asked you right here, right now, Red Sox-Rays, who's more likely to go to the World Series?
08:22Everyone and their mother, including mine.
08:23I talked to her today.
08:25Everyone would take Boston.
08:27The vibes are great.
08:28Chad Tracy deserves a lot of credit.
08:30Look, we could be talking about, if you're being honest and objective, the interim manager
08:35for the Boston Red Sox winning the manager of the year.
08:39Like that, that's what we're talking about here when you start talking about an unbelievable run by Boston.
08:45It's amazing.
08:46It's incredible.
08:47Energy, comeback ability, never say die.
08:50The fans are into it.
08:51And you know what's crazy and so upsetting as a Yankee fan?
08:55Prior years, at any point in my life, Red Sox are hot.
09:00I'm depressed.
09:02There's such a flatline apathy for me and all Yankees fans because the team can't hit.
09:09Boone's a joke.
09:11Cashman's asleep.
09:12They decided to punt on second down during the trade deadline.
09:17And all the Red Sox do, it's crazy, is care about winning.
09:21The Yankees, what a complete and utter waste of time in every possible way.
09:27Still ahead, Carson Beck, lit up the Hall of Fame game.
09:31We're all still waiting with bated breath for Aaron Donald's Rams decision.
09:35We're going to talk about both as we preview the NFC West next.
09:39Shoot, from the time that you crossed the white lines and you're out there on the first play,
09:44I was ready to roll.
09:45You know, I mean, since last night when I was laying in bed, I could barely sleep.
09:50You know, just thinking about having the opportunity to play football again.
09:53You know, just never taking it for granted.
09:55You know, ever since I went through the injury, the surgery,
09:58and, you know, had to get my UCL repaired and everything.
10:01I don't know, just having gratitude for the game and every opportunity that I get
10:06is just something that, you know, I've really found faith in.
10:09So, I was ready to roll.
10:12Football is back.
10:13How about it?
10:15Unbelievable.
10:16That Hall of Fame game last night was terrific.
10:19And Carson Beck was out there and looked outstanding.
10:23I mean, I say you never want to overreact to the preseason.
10:26Did you see Carson Beck last night?
10:29Look at these numbers.
10:30And here's the thing, right?
10:32You see it on the board right there?
10:33You see it on the board right there, selected in the third round.
10:36And when they picked him, we made a big deal about it here on Shine Time because of his experience
10:41and what he did winning in Georgia and what he did in Miami last year.
10:45And he's a perfect fit in Michael Thor's system.
10:48And I thought he was sensational last night.
10:52And I thought he was going to have a big deal with accuracy, arm strength, dropped it in
10:55the bucket a couple of times on a couple of deep throws.
10:58And if you've taken a look at the Cardinals schedule, and I'm not challenging you.
11:03I don't think you're sitting around and just perusing who Arizona's playing in week four.
11:07Trust me when I tell you, the Arizona Cardinals might start the season 0-10.
11:12I mean, this schedule is as tough as it gets, which is why, even if it's not his fault,
11:18we might see Jacoby Brissett benched and Carson Beck is going to be under center sooner rather than later.
11:24So I think when you look at it from a Carson Beck standpoint, this was absolutely a lot of fun.
11:30I was energized by having football back on TV.
11:35It's amazing, right?
11:37I mean, I try not to ever overreact when it comes to preseason, but I liked Carson Beck
11:42when they picked him, Monty Austin Ford, the general manager.
11:45And here's the goal, right?
11:47You want Carson Beck to either be your backup for the foreseeable future, or he could be
11:54your starter and you don't have to draft a quarterback at the top of the draft.
11:58Cardinals should get a top pick, either pick one through three, right?
12:02I wouldn't be surprised if it was one or two.
12:04They enter this year, I believe most likely, with the Dolphins being the other team, to
12:09be the worst team in the NFL and thus get the top pick in the draft, which is a perfect
12:14segue
12:14into our NFC West preview.
12:20Listen, the Arizona Cardinals are the longest of long shots when it comes to winning a division
12:27in the NFL this year.
12:29So because there's such a long shot, I mean, 10,000 to one to win the West.
12:34Let's start with the Arizona Cardinals, because there is a 0% chance they win the division.
12:41And honestly, when you have three teams that can go to the Super Bowl this year in front
12:47of them, Arizona, sadly, is dead on arrival.
12:50And look at the Vegas over-under number.
12:53I hate to say this, because I like the Cardinals, I like their new coach, I like their general
13:00manager, I like the entire organization, I like the fan base.
13:04I would take, and this is dangerous territory, the best bet is the under for wins.
13:13Like, I'm just, you gotta trust me on it.
13:15I've been looking at this schedule.
13:17I don't know how they win a game in the division, where you look at San Francisco and L.A.,
13:22and
13:22you take a look at the defending champs, the Seahawks.
13:25I mean, they're gonna go 0-6.
13:27They start the season with the Chargers.
13:30I don't know how they're going to win any games.
13:33So I actually love the under for the Arizona Cardinals.
13:39I think they will win between 0 and 3 games this year.
13:43Now, I do like Michael Thor.
13:44I think that was a really inspired choice to be the head coach, and you could tell how
13:49much this means to him.
13:50Love that on NBC last night, where you had Matt LaFleur, Mike LaFleur, miked up together.
13:57Mike didn't know his brother was going to be there.
13:59That whole thing was absolutely terrific and tremendous, and I think Michael Thor is a terrific,
14:06terrific choice and inspired as a head coach.
14:09He's a great offensive mind.
14:11You know, comes from that McVeigh tree.
14:13Just terrific.
14:14Now, Jacoby Bursette's going to be the starting quarterback, and he should.
14:17Bursette was really strong last year.
14:20I think eventually Carson Beck's going to be the guy because they're going to lose a
14:23lot of games, and they're going to need to figure out if Carson Beck can play, and if
14:28he's going to be the starter for the foreseeable future.
14:30And also, when they start 0-2, 0-3, whatever it is, and you just got this nice Hall of
14:36Fame
14:36game sample size from Carson Beck, you're going to want to make that change.
14:40Now, I do think Trey McBride, you should draft him in fantasy.
14:44I love Trey McBride.
14:45Great guy.
14:46Great dude.
14:47Terrific player.
14:48One of the best offensive weapons in the sport.
14:49He's going to have a monster season once again.
14:52I think Jeremiah Love.
14:54I love that pick.
14:55You know, third overall pick of the draft.
14:57Not just a running back when you look at Jeremiah Love.
15:00He's a weapon.
15:01He's a star.
15:03He's a stud.
15:04He's most likely, we talked about it on Shine Time yesterday, odds, Vegas most likely
15:10to win the offensive rookie of the year.
15:12The only question is going to be, will he get enough touches and carries, I should frame
15:16it that way, when they're constantly going to be trailing in game?
15:19I'm sure Bursette's going to look to check down to him.
15:22Marvin Harrison Jr. needs to produce.
15:24Let's be crystal clear.
15:25There's no question about it.
15:27I mean, this is year three.
15:28You could color me stunt that he continues to have the yips.
15:32He can't catch a cold.
15:33Michael Wilson's been the number one guy.
15:35No excuse this year for Marvin Harrison Jr.
15:38Listen, I think the Arizona Cardinals are going to be dreadful.
15:42I feel bad saying it.
15:43I love that organization.
15:45But I will absolutely bet the under for wins for the Arizona Cardinals.
15:51But I want to stress, they're moving in the right direction.
15:54I'm a big fan of Mike LaFleur.
15:57I thought that was an inspired choice.
15:59I like Monte Austin Ford as the general manager.
16:01But I would bet the under here for the Cardinals when you look at it in the over-under for
16:08the
16:08win total for this upcoming season.
16:10The Rams are an absolute powerhouse.
16:13And listen, in terms of betting on the Rams, I mean, you're going to shop till you drop.
16:18You absolutely have to bet the over on wins.
16:21We've been through the schedule on numerous occasions.
16:24I mean, to me, the only question is, do you give them 12, 13, 14, 15 wins?
16:29I mean, they are absolutely unequivocally the best team on paper.
16:35And when you start talking about coach and you start talking about Sean McVay and, you
16:40know, I love him to win the division and you could talk about betting them to win the
16:43conference and, you know, they will be in consideration for me on the handful of teams.
16:49And they are absolutely the Vegas favorite when it comes to winning the Super Bowl.
16:52So Sean McVay has won before.
16:55I talk to him all the time.
16:56My Sirius XM radio show does a great job getting stars to play together.
17:00He's a terrific natural leader, gets cohesion on a team.
17:04Love Sean McVay.
17:06I would bet the over on the wins.
17:07I would bet him to win the division.
17:09I would bet him to win the conference.
17:11And listen, they've got the best odds.
17:13I mean, to win the division, to win the conference, and then the Vegas favorites to win the Super
17:17Bowl in L.A.
17:18I would absolutely bet on Matthew Stafford doing MVP Hall of Fame things once again.
17:23I mean, I know he's getting up there in age.
17:26I don't care.
17:27Matthew Stafford's one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
17:29No signs of slowing down.
17:31He's going to have another monster season.
17:33Throwing the ball to Puka Nakua.
17:35I know it was, you know, not a great offseason for Puka.
17:38It sounds like, based upon the press conferences that Puka's given us during training camp,
17:44that Puka understands what he can do, what he can't do.
17:48And I would like to think that Puka Nakua's grown up a little bit, I hope, for L.A.
17:52Devontae Adams is also a Hall of Famer.
17:55And Devontae Adams is your number two as a touchdown machine.
17:58He's unbelievable.
17:59And I just love the tight ends that McVeigh has at his disposal.
18:04And that's going to add in terms of creativity.
18:07They're going to run the ball effectively with Kyron Williams.
18:10I think Blake Corum is solid.
18:12They have the ability to run with multiple backs.
18:14The offensive line is strong.
18:16Oh, by the way, Myles Garrett.
18:19I mean, it's kind of crazy, right?
18:21I mean, it's amazing when you stop and think about it.
18:24I still can't believe they traded for the guy who won the Defensive Player of the Year,
18:28the number one sack artist in the NFL.
18:31And we had less need on shine time.
18:33He said, Myles Garrett's the ultimate starting pitcher and a closer.
18:36You jump out to a lead and then, bam, you're going to have Myles Garrett sacking the passer.
18:41Think about all those times where they didn't have the lead in Cleveland.
18:45And at the end of the day, you know, you look at it and Myles Garrett was still able to
18:49disrupt everyone.
18:50Myles Garrett this year is going to have, and he's already a first ballot Hall of Famer,
18:55whatever he calls it, a career and he's not close to being done.
18:58He's got the best year of his career.
18:59Like, I think for him and under Chris Shula and playing with the lead
19:05and playing in all these big-time, meaningful, prime-time games and the juggernaut that is the NFC West,
19:11Myles Garrett's going to have the most dominant, impactful year that he's ever had in his life.
19:16By the way, they traded for Trent McDuffie.
19:18And that was the move of the offseason before Myles Garrett was the move of the offseason.
19:22See a problem, fix a problem.
19:23They couldn't stop the forward pass on Championship Sunday.
19:26They struggled with the forward pass down the stretch of the season.
19:29So Les Snead was able to bring in different DBs,
19:32most especially right from the get-go to start the offseason, Trent McDuffie.
19:36Look, if Aaron Donald signs, that means Aaron Donald believes that he's ready to be Aaron Donald.
19:43And that means one of the all-time great players in the history of the National Football League on defense.
19:48So I can't stress enough, in terms of previewing the NFC West, how much I love the Rams.
19:54They're unequivocally going to be my pick to win the division.
19:58Again, we don't lock anything in because of injuries, trades, free agency, the whole thing,
20:01until right around Labor Day.
20:03But that's the mindset.
20:06The only question is how far will I ultimately pick them to go.
20:09But there's a reason why they are the favorite in Vegas when it comes to winning the NFC,
20:15winning the Super Bowl.
20:16That's the expectation.
20:18They've got the galaxy of stars.
20:20They're not slowing down.
20:22And listen, winning the L.A. Super Bowl is in the cards,
20:24and that would be the ultimate Hollywood ending for the L.A. Rams.
20:28The San Francisco 49ers are a conundrum.
20:34A real conundrum.
20:35And it's like Vegas wasn't quite sure here what to do with them.
20:40Because the over-under basically says playoff team or not.
20:44Make the playoffs.
20:45It's only minus 146.
20:49They've got the third-best odds to win the division.
20:51Now, I want to acknowledge here the upside if everything is copacetic
20:56and everyone's healthy and Kyle Shanahan's okay.
20:59You know, their upside is to go to the Super Bowl and win it.
21:02The problem is Kyle Shanahan, who was involved in that awful car accident,
21:07is still not coaching in training camp.
21:11So, that is now a football story.
21:14And by the way, the first game of the season, it's the Rams and the Niners in Australia
21:20on that first Thursday of the NFL season.
21:23So, this is a problem here.
21:26And, listen, I don't want to make too big a deal about injury reports in July and August.
21:31But, look, we know Ricky Pearsall is out for the year.
21:35He's on season-ending injury reserve.
21:36But you have Mike Evans, who's been great during training camp.
21:40But, you know, he's missed practice time.
21:42And George Kittle's missed practice time.
21:43And that's just under the umbrella of, it's just not what you want.
21:48So, I think Brock Purdy is a terrific quarterback.
21:52I don't think he gets the credit and respect that he deserves in the court of public opinion.
21:57But I think Shanahan is a big reason why he's been so strong.
22:01We ranked the running backs in the NFL the other day on Shine Time.
22:04We had Christian McCaffrey as the third-best running back in the league.
22:08And he is as tough and as physical and as valuable as it gets.
22:11If you are a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, you understand the meaning.
22:16Mike Evans is an absolute stud.
22:18We call that a significant, a free agent signing, as any in the NFL.
22:23That will equal wins for San Francisco.
22:26George Kittle is back.
22:28That's a big deal.
22:29Trent Williams on the offensive line.
22:31The big deals on defense, Nick Bosa and Fred Warner are back.
22:34They're healthy.
22:35And these guys are, you know, stars.
22:39All-pro players.
22:40And getting them back and healthy is simply everything when you look at it for San Francisco.
22:48I don't know what I'm going to do with the Niners yet.
22:50I try not to overreact on bad vibes for a team.
22:55But then again, we've seen bad vibes equal bad play on numerous occasions with injuries
23:01and drama and contractual situations.
23:04And, you know, if you can get San Francisco to not make the playoffs a plus money, that
23:10might be your best bet.
23:11And I love the talent.
23:12I love the coach.
23:13I don't know if the coach is going to be there.
23:16So, I mean, at this stage, I acknowledge the upside.
23:19I think it's important to acknowledge the downside.
23:21I, right now, in early August, wouldn't touch anything for the San Francisco 49ers.
23:30There's not a bet I would place on the Niners.
23:33I'm going to wait and see if everyone's healthy and if Kyle Shanahan could coach because I acknowledge
23:39the upside here.
23:40But there's something off when you look at it for the San Francisco 49ers.
23:44Then you have the Seahawks.
23:46And, you know, I love Mike McDonald's.
23:49And I love Sam Darnold.
23:51I'm a Sam Darnold guy.
23:52It is interesting how Vegas is treating the champs.
23:55And I want to give Vegas credit.
23:57Ten and a half?
23:58Feels right.
23:59Second best odds?
24:01Not the best.
24:01That plus two or five to win the division?
24:03Sounds right.
24:05I don't think it's a hot take to say Seattle takes a step back.
24:09Look, they lost three key players on defense.
24:13Kenneth Walker signed in Kansas City.
24:16Now, I love Sam Darnold.
24:17I think Sam Darnold's unbelievable.
24:19I think Jackson Smith and Jigma is an absolute star.
24:22Sam Darnold has always had the talent.
24:24He's found it the last couple of years.
24:26Am I allowed to wonder aloud that Clint Kubiak's no longer there?
24:30Now, I think Sam is going to have another terrific season.
24:33I'm a huge fan of Sam Darnold.
24:35I just at this stage, when you look at it, I can't sit here and tell you that you're going
24:44to see in a year where everything went right for Seattle, a lock for them to do anything on this
24:51board.
24:51I think their upside is to go to the Super Bowl and repeat and win it.
24:56Rams will be my pick in the division.
24:58Seattle with Jackson Smith and Jigma is going to have another monster season.
25:02He's going to be absolutely positively terrific again.
25:05Draft him in fantasy.
25:07In reality, he's one of the best receivers, top four in the NFL.
25:10Absolutely love him.
25:11JSN, you know, Offensive Player of the Year.
25:14They just spelt his name right on that trophy.
25:16The guy is absolutely incredible, and I'm obsessed with what he brings to the table.
25:21And that defense could be the best in the NFL.
25:25I think it's the best in the NFC.
25:27The Texans is the best in the NFL.
25:29And I think that Mike McDonald, who's a brilliant defense of mine, will make sure that that defense is ready
25:36to rock and roll
25:36and ready to handle success and prosperity and understand that they're going to be the hunted, not going to sneak
25:43up on anyone.
25:44But I'll tell you, I am not picking Seattle, though, to win the division.
25:50I'm not picking Seattle to make the Super Bowl again.
25:54But I think that when you—and all these—even the over-under kind of makes me nervous.
26:00I lean on the over, and I'll probably pick the Seahawks to make the playoffs because I'm obsessed with Sam
26:08Darnold.
26:09I'm obsessed with Mike McDonald.
26:11I love Gray Zabel on the offensive line, voted him for the Offensive Rookie of the Year, even as a
26:15guard.
26:16Jackson Smith and Jigua is special.
26:18I love John Schneider, their general manager.
26:21They were able to replenish at the running back position.
26:23I think that this team is so smart and buttoned up, and they have a great home field advantage,
26:29and that's a big deal when these other teams have to travel to the great Northwest.
26:34But seeing Seattle repeat for a championship, I would be floored if that happened in the great Northwest this season.
26:42Still ahead, NFL running backs are getting rich and getting rich all at the same time.
26:46We're going to play Accountant next on Shine Time.
26:53We begin with great news for the Atlanta Falcons.
26:56Atlanta is making my guy, B. John Robinson, the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
27:03Hopefully.
27:04Actually, I got to go talk to Mike, too.
27:06I got to go talk to him and see where things are at.
27:10Really, I'm just letting my agent do all that right now.
27:14I'm just worried about the team involved.
27:17What a week for running backs in the National Football League, and we've been chronicling it all week long.
27:23And yesterday, after we did our show, we saw Jameer Gibbs get paid, as predicted.
27:30So, technically, now, if you look at Jameer Gibbs, he on AAV is the highest-paid running back in the
27:37National Football League.
27:38So, you have Gibbs, you have B. John, you have Jonathan Taylor, and Saquon Barkley all over 20 mil per
27:47season, which is absolutely incredible.
27:49And, listen, it all started with Saquon, where Howie Roseman told me they were going to zig, when others were
27:55going to zag at the running back position.
27:57And then, bam, it set the stage for this, with Gibbs and B. John and Jonathan Taylor.
28:02Christian McCaffrey is making 19 mil a year.
28:05And these are the five guys that I believe are the five best running backs in the NFL.
28:10You know, we had a different order.
28:12I go B. John and then Gibbs, B. John and then Taylor, and then McCaffrey, and then Gibbs, and then
28:18Saquon Barkley.
28:19But it's close, right?
28:21I mean, you can make a case for any of these five, which is why having this running back renaissance,
28:27to me, is everything.
28:29I mean, it's awesome.
28:31And even in a passing league, with the rules that favor these star quarterbacks, you need to run to win.
28:37And these guys that are all on the screen right here, you know, these are not, you know, old school
28:43running backs.
28:44They're weapons who happen to run the football and run it brilliantly and move the chains and close games.
28:51But they help in the passing attack, in addition to pass protection.
28:54And this is why they get paid.
28:56You know, Jameer Gibbs, when you look at his touchdowns and what he's been able to do in a rapid
29:01period of time, it's ridiculously amazing, right?
29:04And now he's going to be the bell cow guy for the Detroit Lions because David Montgomery goes to Houston.
29:11And listen, in some ways, there's something to prove for Gibbs on that, right?
29:16Now he doesn't have someone who's going to spell him.
29:18Also, if you're a Lions fan, anytime Gibbs wasn't in the game, you were screaming at your TV, get Jameer
29:23Gibbs in the game.
29:24Also, I'm going to give Brad Holmes, our general manager, credit, right?
29:27I mean, draft and develop, it's what it's all about.
29:29And that was kind of the, you know, Vontae Mack, draft day, Kevin Costner, Jameer Gibbs, no matter what approach.
29:35If you remember three years ago in the draft, trade it back, trade it up.
29:38If they drafted Gibbs, I defended them.
29:40A lot of people were killing them.
29:41That was in the Bijon draft where Bijon went in the top five.
29:45And Gibbs turned out to be as good, if not better.
29:48I still think Bijon is just a thumbnail better.
29:51Listen, I mean, these guys are absolute studs, and it's just terrific for the NFL that these guys, who look
29:58at the names, they're not only terrific, terrific players, they're all five of the best dudes you'll find.
30:06What they do representing their teams and their communities, which matters when it comes to giving this kind of cash.
30:14So, worth every single penny.
30:16I'm absolutely obsessed.
30:18And these three guys, Robinson and Taylor and Gibbs, all deserved it this week.
30:24I'm happy for themselves, their families, their agents, for the teams, for the organizations.
30:30Get that distraction out now, so now they can go play football and live up to this whopping salary.
30:37And I think Jameer Gibbs, just like Jonathan Taylor, just like Bijon Robinson, worth every single penny.
30:44Coming up, the Purdue AD may need the poilermaker as a bodyguard next time he heads to Indiana.
30:50We'll explain when we come back.
30:54Every recruit, every current student athlete will hear this message repeatedly.
31:00We are here to win championships.
31:02If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana.
31:09Wait, what?
31:11That could be the single dumbest thing I've ever heard at a press conference.
31:15And that's the new Purdue AD, Tommy McClellan, talking to the press yesterday.
31:20And he took a factually incorrect, dumb, asinine, stupid, embarrassing, pathetic shot at Indiana.
31:30Indiana won a championship months ago.
31:34Remember this?
31:36Remember Fernando Mendoza?
31:38Remember Signetti?
31:40Remember Cooper?
31:42Remember the undefeated, most unbelievable college football story we've seen ever?
31:48And this is what you're going to say when you're introduced as the AD at Purdue?
31:53I mean, that is just a PR nightmare.
31:57Like, if I'm a kid in that college, I absolutely, at this stage, I'm pulling my hair out.
32:02That's a joke.
32:02That's embarrassing.
32:03That's pathetic.
32:04That's a disgrace.
32:06And you're going to be playing Indiana.
32:09And you have kids in Purdue who, you know, want to think about if they're going to go to Purdue
32:13or Indiana.
32:13I would have even set foot in that school.
32:16I mean, I can't.
32:17Why would you want to go to Purdue after that?
32:19That's terrible.
32:20Absolutely terrible.
32:22Last time, we looked this up.
32:24Last time Purdue won a championship.
32:27Women's golf!
32:28Women's golf in 2010!
32:31Indiana last won a championship this calendar year.
32:35Dumb, embarrassing, pathetic amateur hour.
32:39That's it.
32:39I'm done with Purdue athletics.
32:41Done.
32:42I'll never watch another game.
32:43I'll never root for Purdue.
32:45If I see a Boilermaker on the street, I'm going to slug him in the face.
32:48That's it.
32:49I've had about enough.
32:51I'm done with Purdue.
32:52That's amateur hour.
32:53All right, there.
32:54It's a show.
32:54If you missed any portion of the show, just do what I do.
32:58I love me.
32:59Watch the show over and over and over again.
33:01Just go to our brand new YouTube page, at Shine Time.
33:07Subscribe, like.
33:09And how about Tessa?
33:10Last day.
33:12Michigan State.
33:13She also hates Purdue.
33:15Best intern we've ever had.
33:16Which says something about something, because, you know, Shine Time's only been on since March.
33:20But the best intern since I have been a professional.
33:24Since 1999.
33:26I have three interns a year at SiriusXM.
33:29Go back to TessaCav if we can one more time, right?
33:33Best intern we've ever had.
33:35She's running the prompter.
33:36She's cutting video.
33:38She's producing segments.
33:41You know why?
33:42Because she didn't go to Purdue.
33:44We'll see you Monday on Shine Time.
33:49We'll see you next time.
