00:47This was my largest complaint about the Chargers before the season started.

00:55I love their Njoku pickup, and Gadsden popped last year and showed his way.
01:01The offensive line is great.
01:02The running back room is great.
01:04But this offense, for it to truly be high level, you got to have wide receivers.
01:09And McConkie's a slot guy.
01:11He's not a speed guy.
01:13He's not a number one.
01:15And for them to have put him in that position, to get rocked like that, Justin Herbert threw him a

01:26And so for you to then go shopping on the value menu, okay?
01:30And you went to the Dollar Tree and found you a wide receiver.
01:34However, where was the shopping when Stephon Diggs was available?
01:38Where was the shopping when A.J. Brown was available?
01:41Where was the shopping when Waddle was available, who the offensive coordinator was coaching in Miami?
01:47I don't understand their offensive decision-making when it came to the wide receiver room this offseason.
01:53And this just shows me that they are now acknowledging that they dropped the ball in that particular area.
01:59Yeah, listen, this has been my issue.
02:01And it's been well-documented, my issue with the Chargers and them not getting Justin Herbert a top-end receiver
02:09for years now.
02:10And I just, I don't like, John, I don't like, and I know, it's week one, we're overreacting, like Steve

02:18No, we're not, no, we're not, because the wide receiver room was bad last year.
02:20It's been bad basically the whole tenure for Justin Herbert, right?
02:24And that's my point, is that this is going in a bad direction.
02:28Like, how many more years are you going to go without giving him a top-tier wide receiver?
02:33Because I understand, I understand that Jim Harbaugh wants to play in the trenches,
02:37and he loves his running backs, and he loves the lines, and he loves to be, you know, tough physical
02:41football.
02:42But Mike McDaniel needs a wide receiver to go with Justin Herbert that will be explosive.
02:47Like, when the Rams, you know, remember I was mentioning, that's what I thought week one was going to be,
02:51when the Rams got Stafford and McVay had Stafford, they paired him with a Cooper Cup.
02:56And they, I mean, they got Deshaun Jackson for a deep threat, it didn't work out.
02:59But they got Odell Beckham Jr. late in that season, right?
03:02They got guys to help that system.
03:05I don't think Marquez Valdez-Gatling is going to do that.

03:14Man, in that particular situation, when you have a quarterback like that,
03:18this is what the Bills organization has been criticized for year after year after year.
03:22When you get that guy, you got to keep drafting at that position,
03:26and you got to keep signing guys until you find the guy.

03:30When you have a quarterback like that, you got to keep picking guys,
03:34and you got to keep signing guys until you look like Cincinnati,
03:38until you have a Jamar Chase and a T. Higgins.
03:41Because if those two guys are upright with Joe Burrow playing 28 to 35 a game,
03:47and for whatever reason, the Chiefs try to do that, the Rams do that,
03:51they find guys to support their quarterback who can make things happen.
03:56And the Chargers, I would say with David Njoku,
03:59they are trying to do that from the tight end position,
04:02but the tight end don't stretch the field.
04:05And so in this offense, it took off with Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddell.
04:09So why would you enter this season with Johnston and McClunkey?

04:17They have this belief in the players that they drafted.

04:21And again, I don't like the Quentin Johnston pick.
04:24I never have, but everyone always tries to tell me,
04:27well, his analytics aren't that bad.
04:29If you look at his drop rate, it's really not that bad.

04:41You just need, you need proven guys or extremely high picks.
04:46For me, I think they're going to have to spend a second or third round pick.
