00:00I thought it was a little sad that, and you guys know the team,
00:03so you were probably right too,
00:05that Jets fans felt they needed to root Dante Moore going back to college
00:09to stop the team from drafting him
00:11because that was like the only thing that could actually stop them
00:14from making that decision.
00:16Though we still see some mock drafts go,
00:18all right, they'll just take Ty Simpson at 16.
00:20It's obviously an important offseason.
00:24What do you think this team will be focusing in on, though,
00:29especially as we get closer to the NFL draft?
00:33Well, they need to get an offensive coordinator first
00:35because the Jets waited until January 27th,
00:37even though their season ended the first week of the month,
00:40to fire Tanner Engstrand.
00:41I mean, they got to get that situated,
00:44whether it be Frank Reich or Greg Roman or Daryl Bevel,
00:47basically three guys who are probably way past their prime as play callers
00:51are the options for the Jets at this rate.
00:53That's got to be the first thing they get situated,
00:55and then they got to plan what their plan is at quarterback.
00:57I mean, are they going to try and sign a guy like Kirk Cousins
01:00or make a run at Kyler Murray if he's available?
01:03Are they going to try and spend big money on the guy
01:05maybe with an upside in Malik Willis?
01:07You go down the line,
01:08I think they probably got to add at least two veterans,
01:10and then at some point, they are going to draft a quarterback.
01:14It's just a matter of do they do it at pick 16?
01:16Is Ty Simpson in that spot?
01:18Do they use one of their two second-round picks on someone
01:21that was down in Mobile last week at the Senior Bowl?
01:23The name Garrett Nussmeyer, I think, is going to be a commonly mocked pick
01:27to the Jets with one of their two seconds.
01:29I think that's kind of what you're looking at.
01:31Everything they do is centered around what their plan is at quarterback
01:34because you know it's not going to be Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor,
01:37or Brady Cook in a year where Aaron Glenn needs to win games
01:39if he's going to save his job and actually get to a third season.
01:43So that is one of the most fascinating pieces of this Jets setup here,
01:49and it is where I do think, Jake, organizations run into issues
01:53because Aaron Glenn needing to win games to keep his job absolutely makes sense.
01:59But the Jets also being aggressive in a middling quarterback doesn't make sense.
02:05It's why you guys didn't want Dante Moore.
02:08So it almost feels like they're – I don't mean to be doom and gloom.
02:13Tell me if I'm wrong.
02:14But it already feels like they're stuck where it's like,
02:16hey, the goal is to win games.
02:19You win six or seven.
02:22You don't know if you like Aaron Glenn.
02:23You don't know if you like the quarterback.
02:24And we're just starting all over again then next year.
02:30Yeah, I mean, again, I would not allow this regime
02:33to use a premium pick on a quarterback.
02:35The earliest I'd let them, if this was me, use a pick on a quarterback
02:39would be pick 33, which is the first pick of round two that the Jets own.
02:44I just don't think it makes sense.
02:45I mean, the option is what Ty Simpson, Ty Simpson,
02:47who started 15 career games at Alabama and ended the year
02:50not playing all that well and was injured.
02:52Like, that's the guy.
02:53I mean, the track record of QBs with under 20 starts going in round one
02:58over the last 15 years is abysmal.
03:00I wouldn't make that swing if I'm the Jets.
03:02You have the three first rounders in 2027.
03:05If you're not going to be very good,
03:06you're in position to get your guy next year
03:08and match up that quarterback, whether it be Arch Manning
03:11or Julian Sane or whoever, with a new head coach.
03:14So that's how I'm looking at it.
03:16I know Glenn is going to try and win games to save his job,
03:18but he should be focused on building the team,
03:20making the roster better and finding a way to prove you could coach
03:23by coaching up the team with a Kirk Cousins or Kyler Murray type
03:26as your quarterback.
03:27I wouldn't make the major investment in quarterback in round one this year.
03:31I just don't think the options for the Jets outside of Mendoza,
03:34who we know is going number one,
03:35I don't think it makes any sense for them.
03:37No, I agree.
03:38And to your point about Aaron Glenn,
03:40the defensive side of the ball still has weaknesses, right?
03:43That's been a cause of concern.
03:45So if Aaron Glenn, let's say, limps to an under 500 record,
03:49do they make a potential push maybe for a coach like Gruden
03:52that was mentioned potentially for an OC job?
03:57Yeah, I think when you look at their options,
04:01I just don't know if it's that attractive of a job, right?
04:03I mean, considering that the head coach is a lame duck potentially,
04:08why would John Gruden take the job as a play caller, right?
04:11I just think at this point,
04:13Aaron Glenn fired nine of his 21 assistants after year one,
04:17another assistant left.
04:18So that's 10 of 21.
04:20I mean, who's taking a job other than to get a paycheck
04:23to work for a head coach,
04:24where if they get off to a one in five starties,
04:27this year's Brian Callahan all over again,
04:29getting fired with a four and 19 overall record.
04:32The Jets schedule next year is brutal.
04:33They play the AFC West and the NFC North.
04:36In addition to having to deal with Drake May twice
04:38and Josh Allen twice, it's, it is a bleak setup for them.
04:42It's why I don't think it's an attractive job.
04:45I think they're basically at this point,
04:46cause they stuck with Glenn, which I felt was a huge mistake.
04:49Better off just bottoming out another year.
04:51And you got the three ones to get your quarterback
04:52and the job is attractive for a Mike Tomlin, Sean McDermott,
04:56maybe KOC.
04:57If it doesn't go well in Minnesota, Shane Steichen
04:58or whoever, you know, the top coaches are,
05:01there's probably not going to be 10 openings next year, right?
05:03Maybe there's five or six.
05:04The Jets in theory would be one of the more attractive ones.
05:06And then there's the five people.
05:07Okay.
05:08Anyway, here's the top.
05:08I'm sorry.
05:09I wanted to take a look at it.
05:09So let's do a little bit.
05:10You know what I got.
05:11I got to take a look at it.
05:11You know what I'm like?
05:12I got to take a look at it.
05:12You know what I got.
05:13You know what I got to do?
05:13What I got to do?
05:14You know what I got.
05:14I got to take a look at it.
05:15You know, you know how I'm like.
05:16Let's take a look at it.
