00:00Thursday Shine Time. All eyes on Tariq Skubal.
00:03Will anyone but the Dodgers land, Tim?
00:05The Yankees continue to beat a mess.
00:08At what point do I stop saying there's still the team to beat in the American League?
00:13Bills Mafia may be ready to put ownership through a table.
00:18Baker Mayfield not thrilled with ownership in Tampa.
00:21We're going to go camping around the NFL.
00:24Plus, when will the WNBA get out of its own way?
00:28Okay, you bet. I've got something to say about that.
00:39If this was your last start as a Tiger, would that bum you on?
00:44I don't even really want to speculate, to be honest.
00:47I try to live where I'm at right now, you know, and right now I'm a Detroit Tiger.
00:51I don't really want to speculate a ton on what's happening or what the future holds,
00:55because I don't know, you know.
00:58So, yeah, I mean, I understand the questions.
01:01I understand, you know, what could happen or what could change a week from now.
01:05But, like, I don't really like thinking like that.
01:09Tariq Skubal doesn't want to focus on it, so I will.
01:12Skubal's getting traded by Monday at 6 Eastern.
01:15Our guy, ESPN star Jeff Passan, has reported it.
01:18But we all know it.
01:20So, the question is, which team is going to land Skubal?
01:24Now, Passan says the Dodgers are the frontrunners.
01:28No surprise there.
01:30But what about the Brewers or the Rays or the Phillies or the Braves or the Yankees?
01:38Mystery teams.
01:39The Cubbies.
01:41Let's go through this here.
01:42I do feel compelled to start with this.
01:45I feel terrible for the Tigers fans, because we've been killing Tariq Skubal for a while now,
01:51in terms of the fact that he doesn't want to be there.
01:53And we can go through picks and predictions that I got right or wrong for the baseball season
01:58before the campaign started.
02:00One thing we nailed, and we were light years ahead of the curve on this,
02:03the Detroit Tigers were dead team walking because of the cloud, the omnipresent issue of Skubal
02:11and his contract and the fact that it wouldn't sign in Detroit's.
02:14There was no shot Detroit could make the playoffs.
02:18We guaranteed that was going to be the case.
02:21So, I feel terrible for the amazing Detroit sports fan, which has been through hell for all their teams.
02:27We could talk about history with the Detroit Lions.
02:30We could talk about what happened with the Pistons this past NBA season and the playoffs.
02:34And, obviously, the Tigers, you know, they've been struggling and they've been scuffling.
02:38They think it's going to be their year since 1984, and it just hasn't been the case.
02:43And Skubal has been, since 2024, the best pitcher in Major League Baseball.
02:48And he pitched yesterday, and they pulled him after.
02:52He was throwing a shutout in the middle of the seventh inning, and early in the game,
02:56he got career strikeout number 1,000, and the fans able to give him an ovation.
03:00And A.J. Hinch took him out to get that love and ovation in the middle of that seventh inning.
03:04They're up big, and they blew a 7-0 lead.
03:07The bullpen was a mess, and they lose to the Orioles in extra innings.
03:11Kind of fitting.
03:12And, also, it's over.
03:14And Skubal deserves a lot of blame.
03:16You know, he tries right there in that soundbite to make it, like, his hands are clean.
03:21There's blood on his hands.
03:21It's got Boris' hands.
03:23You know, he could have signed the contract in Detroit.
03:26He has made it clear he's going to the team.
03:28That pays him a dollar more in the offseason.
03:31So, it's over.
03:33I would give you an educated guess that Skubal is going to be traded sooner rather than later.
03:37Because if you're trading for someone, and he's not going to sign now,
03:40and he's going to eventually be the highest-paid pitcher in baseball history,
03:43you want to maximize him if you're the team that's trading for him.
03:47I believe he's going to the Dodgers.
03:51And I think that baseball fans need to wrap their brain around this,
03:56that you're going to see Skubal joining Otani and Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman
04:02and Dave Roberts and company.
04:03I firmly believe that this is inevitable here when it's all said and done.
04:09Andrew Freeman, the lead baseball executive for the Dodgers,
04:11talked to the press yesterday.
04:13And honestly, I would just be stunned, absolutely floored,
04:19if Freeman didn't make a trade for Skubal.
04:22He has made trades at the deadline.
04:24The Dodgers have made trades at the deadline for the big fish before.
04:28We could talk about Max Scherzer.
04:29We could talk about Trey Turner.
04:30We could talk about Manny Machado.
04:33We could talk about numerous guys that Freeman has been able to acquire
04:37since he's been the lead executive.
04:39Hugh Darvish is another one that he's been able to ultimately acquire.
04:43Plus, the Dodgers, it's all about winning.
04:47The season is a success if they win a championship.
04:50It's a failure if they don't.
04:53Also, there's need for Dave Roberts' club.
04:55I mean, Blake Snell is Hurts, and Shohei Otani right now is not pitching.
05:01And Tyler Glass now is made of glass, and he can't pitch.
05:05And that's a problem.
05:06Now, every team in baseball can use someone like Tariq Skubal,
05:10but even for a rich team like the Dodgers,
05:14a team that's won back-to-back World Series,
05:16Skubal would be their ace.
05:18Not Yamamoto, not Otani.
05:19It would be Skubal who would be pitching game one, game seven.
05:25Inserts criteria here for whatever matters when you look at it
05:28for the Dodgers come playoff time.
05:31And again, it's only and always about winning a championship for the L.A. Dodgers.
05:37So they have prospects.
05:38They have young pitchers.
05:40They can give the Detroit Tigers a haul.
05:42I don't think there's any question about that.
05:44And also, you never want to be a team or an executive that goes out
05:48and makes trades to make sure that the other team doesn't get the player
05:53because then you're overreacting.
05:55But if you're doing it because your criteria is to win a championship or bust,
05:59then you start talking about need.
06:02And if you make a deal, if you're the Dodgers for Skubal,
06:05you keep them away from Milwaukee and Philadelphia,
06:08listen, that is terrific and tremendous, and that's part of the equation.
06:12I don't give the Brewers or the Phillies a chance as we speak
06:18to beat the Dodgers in October.
06:22If the Brewers or the Phillies trade for Skubal,
06:25not that I would pick them, but now there's a chance.
06:28See, Pat Murphy's Brewer team is ridiculously talented,
06:31and every year they find a way to make the playoffs,
06:34and every year they lose in the playoffs.
06:37So that is how I'm going to frame and phrase the Brewers,
06:40excellent regular season team, no shot in the playoffs until they prove me wrong.
06:45If they get Skubal, we're going to burn this tape from our Shine Time YouTube page
06:51because if they get Skubal at the end of the day,
06:54and you have Mizorowski and Skubal in a short series, of course they could win.
06:58If you have, if you're the Philadelphia Phillies,
07:01if you have Sanchez and you have Wheeler and you have Skubal in a rotation,
07:05and you have Harper and you have Schwarber and company,
07:08and they can absolutely drive the baseball with authority,
07:11even with the Phillies scuffling right now,
07:14and they have been miserable, dreadful since the All-Star break,
07:18this would change the math and the equation here when you look at it
07:22for the Philadelphia Phillies.
07:24Now, Don Mattingly was not happy with Bryce Harper talking to the press
07:29and telling the press that the Philadelphia Phillies need to add
07:34and they need a bat and they need an arm.
07:36And listen, Mattingly could be sticking up for his owner,
07:40could be sticking up for his son, who's the actual general manager.
07:43He could be sticking up for Dave Dombrowski.
07:45I had no issue with Harper, zero,
07:48the fact that he was asking ownership to do something
07:50because, listen, he wants to win a championship.
07:53So I think that Skubal would change everything.
07:55When I talked to Derek Jeter on my SiriusXM radio show,
07:58he said that the team where the pendulum would swing the most,
08:02and I agree with him, in a Skubal deal,
08:04and let's take the Dodgers out of the equation
08:05because they are the favorites right now,
08:07and if they get Skubal, don't get Skubal,
08:09they'll still be the favorites.
08:11It's Philadelphia.
08:12If the Phillies get Tariq Skubal,
08:14they can absolutely win the World Series.
08:16I mean, that 1-2-3 would be murderers row
08:19with Skubal and Sanchez and Wheeler in a short series.
08:21And it would just change the energy around Philadelphia.
08:25So I think that would be amazing.
08:27The fly-in-the-ointment team is Tampa, okay?
08:30And I say this as a Yankee fan.
08:32I think the Yankees are going to win the A-L East.
08:36Two and a half games out.
08:37I think the Yankees are going to win the American League.
08:39The Rays, how they do it, how Kevin Cash, the manager,
08:42how they ultimately find ways to win,
08:45it's one of the most remarkable things I've seen in sports, right?
08:49The ballpark's a dump.
08:50I mean, whenever they blow up the trop,
08:52I want to be the guy who pushes the red button.
08:53And that place is awful.
08:55You know, I said Mullins is batting in the middle of batting order.
08:59I don't know how they do it, but they keep doing it.
09:02If I were the Rays, I would trade for Skubal.
09:05They could never sign him long-term.
09:07We might have baseball Armageddon anyway.
09:10The smaller budget teams that I think would make sense
09:13would be the Rays, obviously.
09:15And it would – American League stinks.
09:17Yankees have a lot of flaws, which we'll get to in a second.
09:19You know, if I'm the Rays, I would absolutely trade for Skubal without question.
09:24And, of course, the aforementioned Brewers,
09:26because, you know, this team has done it before.
09:29Different ownership, different era.
09:31When they traded for Sabathia, C.C. Sabathia, Hall of Famer, Yankee legend.
09:35You know, they got him from Cleveland, and he was lights out.
09:38He was majestic for the Brewers.
09:40Then, bam, he went to the Yankees via free agent.
09:43I also think there could be a couple of mystery teams and sleeper teams.
09:48Everyone wants Skubal.
09:49The two that I'll mention, and it's with a point and a purpose, right?
09:52Because you try and think about executives in baseball
09:55who have made their bones around being aggressive.
10:00And you start looking at teams that are in position right now.
10:04It's not an educated guess.
10:05Will they make the playoffs?
10:06They are playoff teams.
10:09But I don't consider them World Series teams.
10:13And, again, we're operating under the blanket
10:15that Skubal is the best pitcher in baseball.
10:17We're talking about Atlanta and the Cubbies.
10:20The Chicago Cubs and Jed Hoyer, they are always aggressive.
10:23And I think PCA is unbelievable.
10:25He's my MVP right now in the National League, not Shohei Ohtani.
10:29I mean, watching PCA do his thing, hit that home run,
10:32his defense hit that home run in the scoreless game and extras last night.
10:35I don't view the Cubs as a World Series threat at all.
10:40They get Skubal, they're in the mix for the World Series.
10:43The Atlanta Braves is with Alex Anthopoulos.
10:46I mean, this guy is super smart, super aggressive.
10:49Remember the year that they won the World Series
10:50when Acuna Jr. got hurt?
10:52He traded for four new outfielders.
10:54And, bam, had a whole new outfield.
10:57Three guys and a DH basically going down the stretch of the season.
11:01They beat the Dodgers and then go out and win the World Series.
11:04So I would say don't eliminate teams like the Braves.
11:07Don't eliminate teams like the Chicago Cubs.
11:10But listen, it's going to be the Dodgers.
11:14And I want you to just wrap your brain around it.
11:17And I think it's great.
11:19I think the Dodgers are everything right with sports.
11:23I think the Dodgers are everything right with baseball.
11:27I want a team.
11:28I want to root for a team where all they care about is winning a championship.
11:34They will do whatever it takes.
11:36The Dodgers can win the World Series in October for the third straight year
11:41if they don't trade for Skubal.
11:43It will obviously increase the likelihood and the chances
11:46and let everyone catch their breath and take some of the ambiguity out of it
11:51if they make this trade, if they go for the jugular.
11:54Everyone's going to be pumped up.
11:55That's what separates the Dodgers from everyone else.
11:59It's not about payroll.
12:00It's not about money.
12:02It's about want.
12:03It's about developing prospects who a team like the Tigers would want
12:07and trade for in a Skubal deal.
12:09I think the Dodgers are a beautiful baseball machine.
12:13How about Edwin Diaz coming back?
12:15That's huge.
12:15You got a save yesterday.
12:17So now you start talking about the Dodgers,
12:20and Jeter stressed this to me when we spoke earlier this month.
12:24The Dodgers know how to play for October.
12:28They know how to get guys ready for October baseball.
12:33162 games is a grind.
12:35Trying to three-peat is very difficult physically and mentally.
12:39You get Skubal.
12:41You have Edwin Diaz in the back ends.
12:43Man, Timmy's going to be playing that trumpet deep into the month of October.
12:47I can't stress enough how I think I would celebrate this on Shine Time.
12:52And I'm guessing it's going to be sooner than later.
12:54And I think Skubal is gone.
12:56Zero percent chance he stays in Detroit.
12:58And he's going to be traded.
13:00I agree with my guy Jeff Passon completely.
13:03And I think the Dodgers, that's the team.
13:06Not only the beaten baseball,
13:08but the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to the summer of Skubal.
13:13The Yankees had another terrible loss last night,
13:16highlighted by another shameful play.
13:18Not by Anthony Volpe, but by the catcher, Ollie Sanchez,
13:22whose gamble on a pickoff throw to third and extra innings did not pay off.
13:27Apparently, the bone-headed play, not an issue for Aaron Buffoon.
13:33Would you have liked to have seen Sanchez hold the ball there
13:36instead of trying to throw the runner out?
13:38You just got to have a good throw.
13:39He's playing catch.
13:40So we're big leaguers, and we're not going to not do things.
13:46So, you know, obviously an option's hold it.
13:51But, you know, it comes down to, you know, just playing catch.
13:54We have to play catch better there.
13:56No!
13:57No, no, no, no, no, no!
13:59No!
14:00No!
14:01Absolutely positively not!
14:03And this is the problem with Aaron Boone.
14:05He is completely lost, completely clueless.
14:08There is a moment in time where you have to look at the manager,
14:11and I keep saying this, and I keep stressing this,
14:14and there is a problem with the Yankees when it comes to fundies, fundamentals.
14:20No team in baseball is worse,
14:22and that soundbite tells you everything you need to know.
14:25No!
14:26It's not about making a better throw, playing pitch and catch.
14:31There is no reason Sanchez should be making that throw.
14:35Ever!
14:36Risk-reward in that spot,
14:37you're not going to pick the runner off of third base.
14:40But a bad throw run scores.
14:43What do you know?
14:45A bad throw.
14:46And there's the manager after the game,
14:48defending the decision to throw to third base.
14:51Keep blowing those bubbles, Aaron Boone.
14:53Keep blowing the bubbles.
14:55I can't do this anymore.
14:56I can't do it.
14:57I'm watching Cam Schlittler throw an absolute gem,
15:00and that gets wasted.
15:02I'm not going to rip Paul Blackburn.
15:04You have a couple home runs, consecutive pitches.
15:06He's been great for the Yankees this year.
15:08But you go to extra innings,
15:10and you know it's over because the Yankees are the worst when it comes to extra innings.
15:16The worst.
15:17And that's not me just talking and riffing and,
15:22oh, this team stinks, and this team's the worst.
15:25No, the Yankees are literally, actually,
15:27the single worst team in baseball when it comes to extra innings.
15:30They're 1-7 in extra innings.
15:32I'm a Yankee fan.
15:33I can't remember the Yankees actually winning a game ever under Aaron Boone.
15:37I'm only exaggerating by a little in extra innings.
15:40I hate what Rob Manford has done with extra innings,
15:43with the dopey runner on second base, the ghost runner.
15:47But you win and lose now based upon fundamentals.
15:51And the Yankees are 1-7 in extras.
15:54The worst record in baseball in extra innings over the last three seasons.
16:00The worst.
16:02That's on the manager.
16:04That's the problem.
16:06So when you listen to Boone talk, I mean, it's –
16:09and here's the deal, right?
16:10Schlittler was unbelievable.
16:12Call of the night before unbelievable.
16:14Freed got hit.
16:15Yankees won.
16:16The Yankees right now are so paper thin.
16:20They have three amazing pitchers, right?
16:23Ben Rice can rake.
16:24I like Jazz more than most.
16:26The bullpen has actually been pretty good, especially recently.
16:29Bednar couldn't pitch last night because Anthony Volpe dropped that pop-up,
16:32so he had to come in on Monday night in the ninth inning.
16:34But I digress.
16:35I don't want to see Volpe's face anymore.
16:37It's not even a Volpe topic.
16:38Here I am ripping Volpe.
16:39Lombard should play shortstop.
16:41Volpe makes me sick.
16:43The Yankees fundamentals.
16:46It all starts with the manager.
16:48And for him to say after that game that he had – it was an error in terms of got
16:55to make a better throw,
16:56that's a mental mistake.
16:58That's a mental faux pas.
17:00That's an issue.
17:01Now, Yankees at the deadline – I mean, give me Mason Miller, please.
17:06We don't know when Aaron Judge is coming back.
17:09We don't know when John Cutler Stanton's coming back.
17:12Sounds like Bellinger will be back at the end of August, maybe around Labor Day.
17:17Mason Miller from the Padres is going to cost a pretty penny.
17:21Do it.
17:23Prospects, players.
17:24Mason Miller is having a Dennis Eckersley, Mariano Rivera season.
17:29You don't have to worry about him going from, you know, the A's to the Padres,
17:33you know, smaller pressurized teams to the Yankees.
17:36Mason Miller's stuff is sensational.
17:38He would change the equation and the math.
17:42If you had Bednar and Miller in the eighth, ninth inning for the Yankees,
17:46they could start winning some of these close games.
17:48They've got no offense right now, no manager, no fundamentals.
17:52The catching position is awful.
17:54I do love what our guy John Heyman from the New York Post was reporting
17:59with the Yankees checking in on Adley Russman with the Orioles.
18:02That would be terrific.
18:04That would be great.
18:05I'm a little skeptical if the Yankees are going to be able to swing a deal
18:09for a catcher.
18:10They need a right-handed bat.
18:12No question about that.
18:13I don't want to see Volpe's face again.
18:15Get me Madison Miller pitching at the back end of the game for the Yankees.
18:20I mean, he is special.
18:23He's superb.
18:24That pissed me off last night.
18:26I mean, the Yankees can't buy wins when it comes to extra innings.
18:30There's a common theme and denominator.
18:33I mean, it's a gift, right?
18:35You get this ghost runner.
18:37It's all about the manager.
18:38The Yankees being the worst in extra frame.
18:42It's all about Aaron Boone.
18:44Coming up, we've got some trouble brewing in Western New York, folks.
18:48Bill's Mafia already up in arms about the new uniforms the team unveiled.
18:52And now the franchise is trying to restrict how Bill's fans can tailgate.
18:59This is unbelievable.
19:00Speaking of disgruntled, did you hear what Baker Mayfield has to say today?
19:03We're going camping around the NFL next.
19:06Bill's fans should be excited.
19:08New head coach, brand new stadium.
19:09Still have my guy Josh Allen, my opinion best quarterback in the NFL.
19:14Hope and happiness should be overflowing in Buffalo.
19:18Then, the fans got eyes on the Bill's new alternate uniforms.
19:21The backlash has been widespread, to say the least.
19:25My guy Josh Allen just wants everyone to take a breath.
19:29And stop hating on the jerseys, guys.
19:33I don't know if you guys are hating.
19:34I don't know.
19:34I don't see anything.
19:36But they're great.
19:38I honestly like speaking anew, right?
19:42It's a new look.
19:43It is.
19:43I understand that.
19:44But we've got to be new.
19:47And I think these jerseys kind of are symbolic of that.
19:51And I'm excited to wear them.
19:53I really, we had a lot of people that put in a lot of hard work for these jerseys.
19:57And it just, it symbolizes a lot of newness.
20:01And that I am excited about.
20:02Do you like it better than last year's all white?
20:04I thought.
20:05We didn't win in the all white.
20:07So, absolutely.
20:09There it is.
20:10That's my guy, Josh Allen, right there.
20:13Josh Allen's right.
20:14I just hate when people are just mad online for no apparent reason.
20:19Those new jerseys are crisp.
20:23They're clean.
20:24I mean, who could hate on this?
20:26I love the gray.
20:28I love the blue.
20:29I love the helmets.
20:30And Josh is right.
20:32They didn't win in the other uniforms.
20:35My son, Theo, he is obsessed with the Bills, his favorite NFL team.
20:39Favorite player is Josh Allen.
20:41I can't wait to get Theo Shine a Josh Allen jersey with the new jerseys.
20:48Simple as that.
20:49I'm not even going to let him wear the old jerseys anymore.
20:52Something new.
20:53Something different.
20:54That is crisp and fresh.
20:56I mean, I don't know.
20:57What did you want for the new uniforms?
21:00I mean, those are absolutely immaculate unis.
21:03They're gorgeous.
21:05They're just, they stand out.
21:07They're different.
21:08Also, new stadium, new head coach, new direction.
21:13Bills have never won a championship.
21:15What's not to love?
21:17Now, unis are one thing.
21:18Fans can agree, disagree on a team's look.
21:21That's, that's fine.
21:22I mean, they're going to wear it twice this season.
21:24And at the end of the day, they win.
21:26Everyone's happy and love the uniforms.
21:28If they lose, you'll probably never see them again.
21:29But messing with the Bills Mafia tailgate?
21:34Okay.
21:35Now we're getting to the sacrilege territory.
21:37Let's take a look at some of the rules being implemented for tailgating at the new Highmark Stadium this season.
21:43So, no noise-making items.
21:46Okay.
21:47No megaphones or air horns.
21:49Food is for consumption by friends and family only.
21:53All right.
21:55Tailgating cutoff and kickoff.
21:58No inappropriate displays of affection.
22:02Wait, what?
22:03Was that a problem at the old stadium?
22:05No taunting opposing fans.
22:08One space per vehicle.
22:11All right.
22:12A couple of things here.
22:13Because, again, everyone wants to get mad online.
22:18I'm going to defend the Bills for this.
22:20And no one lives for the Bills and Bills Mafia.
22:24Bills Mafia loves me.
22:26I love Bills Mafia.
22:27My son's part of Bills Mafia.
22:28He's a big Bills fan, diehard Bills fan.
22:31All right.
22:32They're not going to let you bring a megaphone into the stadium?
22:35You'll be fine.
22:36Right?
22:37You know, you can't, you know, give your significant other a kiss during the game.
22:42I mean, I had no affection.
22:44I mean, I didn't know this was an omnipresent problem.
22:46I mean, is this guy making out?
22:48I don't know.
22:48I don't know what to tell you.
22:50Now, the tailgating thing, I get, right?
22:54Because that's part of the deal.
22:55Even in the new Bills Stadium, you have a broken table, which was pretty smart and pretty creative.
23:00I mean, you know, and this whole scene is part of the whole experience in lovely western New York.
23:06So, I get it.
23:07This is what I'm talking about.
23:08Only in Buffalo do you have this in the new stadium.
23:11I mean, it made me laugh.
23:13I mean, it's about as great as it gets.
23:15Now, you can't propose to your significant other at the stadium.
23:20That's out now.
23:21You can no longer propose in any way, shape, or form.
23:25So, this, that's it.
23:29So, bad news.
23:30Bad news.
23:31If you were planning on proposing at the new stadium for the Buffalo Bills, can't do it anymore.
23:38But, again, this goes back to, for me, the whole mad online situation.
23:43If you have to go to Niagara Falls or your favorite wing joint and propose instead, go be fine.
23:50I mean, just go to a Sabres game.
23:53I don't know what to tell you.
23:54Like, just, everyone's getting, getting cranky.
23:57Getting cranky.
23:58Let me tell you what this is all about.
24:01Winning.
24:02And I'm cool with that, right?
24:05Bills fans are unhappy.
24:06Look at this gorgeous new stadium.
24:08I mean, this thing is beautiful, breathtaking.
24:12I'll give you a quick example.
24:14Compare and contrast this thing to the nondescript MetLife Stadium, which is the most sterile stadium I've ever seen in
24:22my life.
24:22I mean, MetLife Stadium has no personality.
24:25No zip.
24:26What we're seeing here with the Bills' new stadium is unbelievable.
24:30I can't wait for that thing to rock.
24:33And Josh Allen is throwing bombs.
24:35And Bradley Chubb sacking the quarterback.
24:38And Bradley Chubb is going to be amazing this year.
24:40And D.J. Moore catching passes from Josh Allen.
24:42And Josh Allen is everything.
24:45And it's all there for him.
24:48He's got a new head coach.
24:49Sean McDermott's part of the, you know, what's out.
24:52You can't propose anymore.
24:53You can't, at the end of the day, you know, have tailgating past noon.
24:58You know, new uniforms.
24:59And no Sean McDermott, which is good because he ruined everything with bad coaching when it mattered the most.
25:05So, Josh Allen's going to be MVP again.
25:08Joe Brady is his offensive coordinator.
25:10He gets elevated to the head coaching position.
25:13And the Bills are loaded.
25:15So, they're doing all the right things.
25:18I can appreciate fan angst, right, especially in Buffalo because the AFC is loaded.
25:26The margin for error is slim.
25:28You know, you lose seven games in the AFC, you might not make the playoffs.
25:32You might need to hit 11.
25:34That's what we're talking about here when we go through 11 or 12 teams in the conference that internally or
25:40their fan bases all believe they are going to win at least one playoff game this year.
25:46You go through all those AFC teams.
25:48We did all the AFC previews for you.
25:50They're all up on Shine Time on our YouTube page.
25:53All these AFC teams are feeling like this is their year.
25:57But for the Bills, it's really their year.
26:00This is going to be a special, special season.
26:04First time in a new stadium, new head coach, Bradley Chubb.
26:08I mean, they couldn't stop him last year when he was playing for the Dolphins.
26:11They needed some extra defense.
26:13Helps the pass rush.
26:14D.J. Moore, think about all those clutch catches he had for Caleb Williams last year.
26:18I mean, D.J. Moore, right guy, right time.
26:21I absolutely love that trade, not to mention Dalton Kincaid going to another level.
26:26And James Cook is unbelievable.
26:28And the offensive line is strong.
26:30It's all there for the Buffalo Bills.
26:33And trust me, when you win a Super Bowl, everyone's going to tailgate.
26:37Everyone's going to propose.
26:39Everyone's going to be wearing the new uniforms.
26:41Everyone's going to be jumping through a table.
26:44You know, you can get mad online now.
26:47Winning is the ultimate deodorant for everything.
26:50And trust me, this is going to be a magical season for the Buffalo Bills.
26:55Bills fans are not the only ones feeling a bit perturbed today.
27:00I give you Baker Mayfield.
27:03I wanted a deal done and set the deadline and told them it was going to be all ball after
27:08that.
27:09And I did mean that.
27:10And I don't know if they thought I was just going to take some of the offers that they gave.
27:15Disappointing in that regard to not have, you know, to feel disrespected a little bit.
27:19And that's really the disappointing part, to feel undervalued after, you know, thinking you've earned it.
27:27I respect honesty from any pro athlete who says what's on his mind and doesn't sugarcoat.
27:33And I respect Baker Mayfield for saying what he said right there.
27:39Disrespected, undervalued.
27:41Those are the money words.
27:43And that's a huge deal.
27:45And Baker Mayfield has already stated and stressed it again talking to the press today.
27:50He's not negotiating a contract during the season.
27:54Now, there is an element here, which I do feel compelled to stress for honesty and accuracy.
27:59A chippy Baker is usually the best Baker, right?
28:03Think about college, pros, Cleveland, Tampa, you know, after he was cut by Carolina, whatever it is.
28:11You usually get, whenever there's a chippy Baker, you get the best.
28:15Think about that one, you know, cup of coffee you had with the Rams when they signed them on game
28:19day, in essence, on that Thursday night.
28:21Chippy Baker is the best Baker.
28:24But something's off here for the Buccaneers.
28:27And that division, obviously, you know, you can poke holes in the Saints and the Panthers and the Bucs and
28:33the Atlanta Falcons, their quarterback position.
28:36Mike Evans is no longer there.
28:38And they wanted him back.
28:39And he didn't re-sign.
28:41Levante David, their star linebacker, Super Bowl winner, glue of that defense.
28:47He retired.
28:48Vitavia wants to be traded.
28:49Baker said today that he hopes that Vitavia gets the bag.
28:53You know, I don't think that the Bucs are going to trade him at the end of the day.
28:57But they have to pay him.
28:59And this is not good.
29:00You know, Todd Bowles has not done a good job over the last couple of years.
29:03The offensive staff is not what it was in Tampa Bay.
29:07Baker aired it out.
29:10Not long passes to a Mecca Bucca, but his dirty laundry.
29:14Disrespected and undervalued.
29:16When you have this kind of contractual situations, this kind of drama and nonsense and storylines in July,
29:26does not help you during the course of the season, ask a Cowboy fan.
29:31When you have every single day more issues and nonsense and garbage and these are the topics and the word
29:40choice for discussion,
29:41it's not about playoffs or taking the next step or chemistry with the offensive line.
29:47It's about feeling disrespected and undervalued.
29:50And Baker said today, you know, he was unhappy that it was a two-year deal that was offered.
29:56Man, what a disconnect.
29:57What a mess.
29:59It is impossible to believe in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for this upcoming season.
30:04Looking for a quarterback in good spirits?
30:07How about Caleb Williams chatting with our good friend Kay Adams?
30:11It's going to be really exciting.
30:13It's going to be really fun to watch.
30:15It's going to be more entertaining than last year.
30:17Hopefully not as much of a heart race, but it's going to be a little bit more entertaining throughout the
30:22whole game
30:23and what we're going to bring to the table.
30:27Even more entertaining from Caleb Williams?
30:30Yeah!
30:31I love it!
30:32I am obsessed with what he said.
30:35He also talked to our friend Kay Adams about how he lost 10 to 15 pounds, which I think is
30:40great.
30:40He also said, you know, last year was fun.
30:42They had those six games where they were trailing in the final two minutes in the fourth quarter, and they
30:49won.
30:50He wants to be ahead, right?
30:52Obviously, give Caleb credit for those aforementioned games where he's able to, you know, ultimately get a victory out of
30:59the jaws of defeats.
31:00But Caleb Williams, to me, there's a whole other level for greatness.
31:04Ben Johnson, second year they're working together, head coach, play caller, and Caleb.
31:10Caleb's in his third year.
31:11I'm obsessed with Colston Loveland.
31:13They're an incredible young tight end.
31:15He's going to have a monster second season.
31:17Luther Byrne is a terrific young wide receiver.
31:20I still believe in Rome Adunze.
31:23I know that he hasn't lived up to where he was drafted.
31:26Rome wasn't built in a day.
31:28Year three, I think a healthy Adunze is absolutely going to explode.
31:32I am floored, absolutely stunned, that Vegas has the Chicago Bears as the third-ranked team in the NFC North.
31:45They have it in order, the Detroit Lions, the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears, and the Minnesota Vikings.
31:53This is insane to me.
31:55The Bears at plus 305, that is amateur hour.
32:00Absolute amateur hour.
32:02I am banging the Bears at plus 305.
32:05I think that if I'm ranking the division right now, it's Bears clearly number one.
32:10If Kyler Murray is starting for the Vikings, they're number two.
32:14Detroit number three.
32:15And the Packers are not going to have Micah Parsons for the first six weeks.
32:18They would be number four.
32:19Bears won the division last year.
32:22Caleb Williams only getting better.
32:24I think Caleb Williams, and I had him in my top ten for quarterbacks for 2026.
32:30We made our list a couple of weeks ago here on Shine Time.
32:33I think Caleb Williams will be top five for NFL MVP this year, and I wouldn't bat an eye if
32:42he won the award.
32:43Forget about the division.
32:45I think the Chicago Bears are going to win a couple of playoff games, and they will be in the
32:49conversation for the Super Bowl in the NFC this year.
32:52We go from quarterbacks to wide receivers, and we're going to go with the good, the bad, and the ugly
32:57here.
32:57First up, Malik Neighbors, where he is practicing at Giants camp, and Jackson Dart is happy.
33:06Well, he definitely has a presence about him.
33:08There's an aura that he has on the field that is exhilarating.
33:12It makes me happy.
33:13It makes everybody happy just to see him out there.
33:16Neighbors participated in Giants practice doing individual drills, and I actually like the way Joe Shane, the general manager, and
33:24John Harbaugh talked to the press about this after practice yesterday,
33:30where they weren't going to sit here and declare that Neighbors is back.
33:37They weren't going to sit here and say, we guarantee he's going to be there for week number one.
33:43They are taking it day by day, which is the right thing to do.
33:47Malik Neighbors is going to be a superstar.
33:51Malik Neighbors is going to take Jackson Dart to a different level.
33:55Not the other way around.
33:57Neighbors, and I'm a big Jackson Dart fan, a big Jackson Dart supporter, believer, loved him when the Giants drafted
34:02him a couple of years ago.
34:03I think he has everything, and Harbaugh and Matt Nagy are going to take him to a different level.
34:07A healthy Malik Neighbors changes the math.
34:11Changes the math for darts.
34:12And if you have Neighbors, and you have Austin, and you ultimately have Darnell Mooney, and you have Malikai Fields,
34:20and you still have Slayton,
34:21that's a really good group of receivers.
34:24Isaiah Likely now at the tight end position.
34:27But it has to start with Neighbors.
34:29Because if you look at the Giants' schedule, and this is important to me,
34:32I think the first two games they're playing are impossible.
34:37Right?
34:37Dallas and the Rams, I think those are the two best teams in the NFC going into training camp.
34:44But look at the next four.
34:45Stay with me on this.
34:47Tennessee, Arizona, Washington, New Orleans.
34:51I expect Malik Neighbors to play in those games.
34:57I demand the Giants win those games.
35:01We need to start raising the bar on expectations for the Giants.
35:05I think the Giants' coaching is going to be superb on their Harbaugh.
35:09Malik Neighbors is everything.
35:11By the way, if he's 100% healthy and ready, they can beat the Dallas Cowboys at home to start
35:16the season on Sunday Night Football.
35:17But I am expecting Malik Neighbors to take Jackson Dart to a different level.
35:23I'm expecting the Giants to win 8-10 games.
35:26It would be a force and a factor this year.
35:29Seriously?
35:30And bare bones minimum.
35:32With Malik Neighbors for most of it.
35:344-2 start for the New York Football Giants.
35:38Malik Neighbors is everything.
35:40And even when he's practicing in individual drills coming off that torn ACL,
35:45even with no guarantees from Harbaugh and Shane on week number one,
35:49that was inspiring stuff from Malik Neighbors yesterday.
35:54Stick with the wide receivers.
35:55Now we go to the bat.
35:56Marvin Harrison Jr.
35:58Struggling.
35:59Holding on to the football.
36:01Look, if you're a Cardinals fan,
36:03if you're a fan of Marvin Harrison Sr.,
36:06if you're a fantasy football player,
36:08you have to be concerned.
36:10And I genuinely loved Marvin Harrison Jr.
36:14in the draft a couple of years ago.
36:16I thought he was automatic.
36:18I thought he was going to be superb and sensational.
36:22I thought it was the easiest pick the Cardinals could make.
36:24Talked to Monty Austin for it,
36:26their general manager,
36:27after they made the pick.
36:28Talked to him this past year
36:29after the NFL draft
36:30on my SiriusXM radio show.
36:32Everyone still has monster high hopes for Marv.
36:36This is dreadful, right?
36:38You never want to sit here and go nuts on training camp.
36:42But, look,
36:45Marvin Harrison Jr. has not been healthy.
36:47He's not been effective.
36:48The most important weapon on offense
36:50for this football team
36:52has been Trey McBride at tight ends.
36:54Then you take a look at
36:55the rest of the depth and talent
36:56that they have at receiver with Wilson and company.
36:58Then you look at getting Jeremiah Love
37:01at the running back position.
37:02He can run it.
37:03He can catch it.
37:04He is outstanding.
37:06This is a disastrous start.
37:10Marvin Harrison Jr.
37:11should only be going viral
37:13in training camp
37:14because he's making jaw-dropping plays.
37:17I expect him to have a monster year.
37:19On the heels of being awful,
37:23irrelevant,
37:24and injured,
37:25not available,
37:26first two years in the NFL,
37:27this is not what you need
37:29if you're Coach LaFleur.
37:31If you're Mike LaFleur,
37:31first time being a head coach,
37:33I still hold down hope for Harrison.
37:36This is under the umbrella
37:37of not what you want.
37:39Now to what some might call the ugly.
37:42Jamar Chase found himself
37:44at the center of a scuffle yesterday
37:46at Bengals camp.
37:48You see it right here.
37:50This looks like the Shine Time production meeting.
37:53Everyone giving their opinions.
37:55I love it.
37:56And I love this fight.
37:58I love this.
37:59I can't get enough.
38:01I mean,
38:02and people ripping the Bengals for this.
38:04You know what?
38:05There are expectations in Cincinnati.
38:08I can't.
38:09Jamar Chase is involved.
38:11Reader's involved.
38:12Other players are involved.
38:14I think this is awesome.
38:16You know what I would not like in Cincinnati?
38:19Normalcy.
38:19A nondescript July or August.
38:23There is a sense of urgency
38:25for the Cincinnati Bengals.
38:27And there should be.
38:28In terms of where I stand with Cincinnati,
38:30I think the Bengals are winning the division.
38:33I think they're a real Super Bowl contender.
38:36I would rank it in the AFC
38:37going into the month of August.
38:39Buffalo.
38:39Cincinnati.
38:41I love what they did on defense.
38:43The additions they made
38:45were off the charts.
38:46I think Dexter Lawrence
38:48was a terrific,
38:50terrific acquisition.
38:51I still can't believe that they did that.
38:53I mean,
38:54you take a look at the rookies
38:56that they were able to draft
38:57even without having that first round pick
38:59because of the Dexter Lawrence deal.
39:01I mean,
39:02getting,
39:02you know,
39:02Cook,
39:03getting Mafé,
39:04getting guys from Kansas City and Seattle
39:06with championship experience.
39:08I'm just,
39:09I'm obsessed.
39:09I can't get enough.
39:11I love every single second of this.
39:14And you know what?
39:15If you're going to get heated
39:16and fired up and feisty,
39:18it beats the alternative
39:20of just going through the motions
39:21and being nonchalant.
39:24I love this.
39:25I don't want Jamar Chase getting hurt,
39:27but I love this.
39:28By the way,
39:29Jamar Chase,
39:30T. Higgins,
39:30Joe Burrow,
39:31going to have a monster season.
39:33The WNBA is having a tough time with PR
39:36as the commissioner on the verge of being fired.
39:38The latest example of how this league
39:40can't seem to stay out of its own way
39:42next on Shine Time.
39:45Take a look at this video.
39:47You tell me why the WNBA,
39:49which posted it to their account yesterday,
39:51then decided to delete it.
39:55At All-Star Weekend,
39:56you and Angel made a bet with each other
39:57on this game.
39:58We did.
40:00This is how the rich stay rich.
40:02You got to save this money.
40:04I'm going to see you next week on Wednesday.
40:06Yeah.
40:06At night?
40:07No, at practice.
40:08Oh, at practice?
40:09I mean, I know you're going to lose,
40:10but if y'all lose,
40:13I get to have that.
40:15If y'all win,
40:15if y'all win,
40:16you get it for $100.
40:16I get it for $100, too.
40:18And if we lose,
40:19then you get it for $100.
40:20No, you owe me $400.
40:23But I'm staying with it.
40:25I'm staying with it.
40:27You just watched
40:28two of the biggest stars and names in the WNBA
40:31openly discussing wagering
40:33on a game
40:35between the two of them.
40:38Now, you might not have an issue
40:40with a couple of athletes
40:41putting some bucks on the line
40:43before they face off,
40:45but the league they play in
40:48and seeing that video,
40:49which shows a clear violation
40:51of league policy,
40:53then posted it on their own
40:54social media pages
40:56before ultimately deciding to delete it
40:58is something to behold.
40:59By the way,
41:02in theory,
41:03what you just witnessed,
41:04that's a multi-year suspension.
41:07If two NFL players did that,
41:10they would be suspended
41:11for multiple years.
41:13Not multiple games.
41:15Years.
41:16Years.
41:21Kathy Engelbert needs to be fired.
41:23She needs to be removed
41:25as the WNBA commissioner.
41:27The WNBA,
41:29if you watch it,
41:31is fantastic.
41:33The games are great.
41:35The teams are great.
41:37The players are great.
41:40The nonsense and discourse around it
41:43is absolutely the theater
41:45of the absurd.
41:46When I turn on a game
41:48and Ryan Rucco is doing
41:49the play-by-play
41:50and Rebecca Lobo
41:52is doing the color commentary
41:53and Caitlin Clark
41:54is nailing threes
41:56and Asia Wilson
41:57is doing things
41:58that are just absolutely
42:00off the charts amazing
42:01and you're watching
42:03so many teams
42:04that can compete
42:05for a championship
42:06and for the playoffs
42:07and you have WNBA expansion
42:10in different cities
42:11and it's phenomenal
42:13and no one can have
42:15a normal conversation
42:17anymore about the WNBA
42:18because of garbage
42:20and nonsense
42:22and publicity.
42:24I mean,
42:24you had Kathy Engelbert
42:25canceling an interview
42:27with Dan Patrick.
42:29It's insane.
42:31After she agreed to doing it
42:33because PR flackies
42:35and lackeys
42:35said,
42:35man,
42:36maybe this isn't a good idea.
42:37You don't do that
42:38and then waste someone's time
42:39especially someone
42:40with the pedigree
42:41of Dan Patrick.
42:43I mean,
42:44what are we doing here?
42:46Why is there always something
42:48that has nothing to do
42:50with,
42:50you know,
42:52the sports,
42:53the games?
42:55This is the problem
42:56with the WNBA.
42:58They just can't get out
43:00of their own way.
43:01It drives me nuts.
43:03It drives me crazy
43:04when it comes to sports,
43:05when it comes to women's sports,
43:07the WNBA should be
43:09at the top
43:10of the list
43:11always.
43:13They just can't help themselves
43:15and honestly,
43:16the commissioner has to go
43:18and I've fought this
43:19for a very long time.
43:21We had that incredible interview

43:32I mean,
43:33that's,
43:33you can't even start
43:35talking about anything else
43:36and this,
43:37that,
43:37and the other.
43:38This league needs a restart
43:41in the court of public opinion
43:42and it starts
43:44with new leadership.
43:45Simple as that.
