Willard and Dibs join Steiny and Guru on a Wednesday edition of the Crossover. The guys discuss Kyle Shanahan's recovery from a car accident, break down Guru's idea about bringing Brandon Aiyuk back to the 49ers, and more.
Transcript
00:00Oh, but he cheated.
00:02He took PEDs.
00:03So what?
00:05Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:10All right, it's crossover time brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:12Rest easy.
00:13We've got you covered.
00:14Bayalarm.com.
00:15Let's welcome in Dibs and Willard.
00:17The fellas.
00:18It is the crossover.
00:20Hey, guys.
00:20What's up?
00:21Yeah, what's happening?
00:22Not much.
00:22Let's keep it real.
00:23When's the last time the four of us were in the same room together?
00:30It's been a long time, Stiney.
00:31He had his great, great golf trip, and I'm so happy that you enjoyed yourself out there.
00:35That was great.
00:36Show him your book.
00:37He's got a book.
00:38Pictures.
00:39And I noticed your jacket is still here, but it's clean.
00:43I did put it through the line.
00:44I like your jacket.
00:45This is not a shot.
00:46They were hating on his jacket.
00:47I just appreciate it.
00:48You're a man of your word, and you said you were going to get rid of it when you got
00:51back.
00:51Yeah.
00:52Well, he's going to take a certain amount of heat because he's on scholarship.
00:55Oh, there it is.
00:56And so I was thinking about that coming in because if you don't know, Stiney's got a
00:59friend who happens to be pretty well off, and he takes Stiney on these golf trips, and
01:03Stiney pays.
01:04He gets about 80% off, which is great.
01:06I'm jealous.
01:07I admit it.
01:08My curiosity was, though, do they make you kind of sing for your supper?
01:12In other words, do they make you perform?
01:15You're not a clown, but do they make you do certain things to entertain them?
01:20Dance that drink over here, Stiney.
01:21No, no.
01:22What this guy is, is this guy is the type of guy who was my best friend in college.
01:28It's one of those things where it's like, you know, if I ever get rich, and he got rich.
01:35He got rich.
01:37Take care of his boys.
01:38You know, he's rewarding me for my years of loyalty and friendship.
01:44What happens if you get rich back?
01:46How?
01:47I mean.
01:48I'm not buying a company.
01:49I don't know if he has that much time to get that rich.
01:51No, I agree.
01:52I don't know how rich is rich, but I know the trips that they've taken.
01:54You don't grab a foul ball ticket tonight.
01:55Hey, I'm almost at $800 million.
01:57Yeah.
01:58Then I would.
01:58Then you'd do it back.
01:59And I would pay.
01:59Yeah, we're going to Scotland.
02:01Yeah, I would do that.
02:02Okay.
02:02I had that kind of money.
02:03Scotty, can you do me a solid?
02:05Seriously.
02:05Hi.
02:06Can you share with them how we started our show in the subject matter?
02:09I can't remember.
02:10Kyle Shanahan.
02:11Yeah.
02:12Can you share with them your thoughts as we started our show?
02:15Oh, without getting, my personal opinion is I don't think it's over.
02:22What do you mean?
02:23What's the accident?
02:24Okay.
02:25What?
02:26I think a shoe's going to drop.
02:29Oh, so you're not talking about his health.
02:32You're talking about.
02:32I'm talking about.
02:34Oh, you're going to get dibs all going.
02:37Oh, no, Will, I forgot about it.
02:39Will, Will, I'll take a laugh.
02:42We did the first hour.
02:43No, no, no, it's okay.
02:44It's okay.
02:44Let me ask you a question.
02:45I did it all.
02:46No, no, I'll just start with you.
02:47I did it all.
02:48Who need a latte?
02:49Macchiato?
02:50Who do you need?
02:51I'll go.
02:52Right or wrong, do you think the Chronicle has their police reporter sniffing around?
02:58Ooh.
02:59That's all I'm saying.
03:00That's all I'm saying.
03:01I have no idea.
03:02I think not.
03:04I think it's over.
03:06If the Chronicle's police reporter's sniffing around, isn't he or she done sniffed by now?
03:13Well, they just found out, kind of.
03:15They found out 11 days after.
03:17I mean, I don't know.
03:19That's all.
03:20I'm not saying there was a.m. to fire us.
03:23But they had to find something, too.
03:24They had to find something, or else then there's nothing to report.
03:26And here's the big snafu.
03:28Well, we can get into all of it.
03:29We did.
03:30Mark and I had a.
03:31I told you.
03:31I told you.
03:31We had a fairly heated argument.
03:33Whip or no whip?
03:34No, no, no, seriously.
03:35Where's Whitney?
03:35I just want to leave right now.
03:36He's going to get coffee.
03:38He can't stomach this conversation.
03:40No, I can't.
03:41I'm doing it on purpose, but we did the first hour.
03:44That's an interesting phrase for you to use.
03:45Right.
03:45Anyway.
03:46No, we'll get to that.
03:47We'll get to that, how that became somehow like the A block of their show yesterday.
03:52But that's neither here nor there.
03:53The only thing that I find continually curious is because no one was charged, therefore, they
03:59don't have to make the police report public.
04:01And so I do think that there was some intentionality in that to where we're not going to cite anyone.
04:07That way, this is no, it's not public record because it's just an accident among adult human
04:12beings.
04:13So I don't know if we, I don't know if we will ever have the other shoe drop, but I've
04:17been
04:18more of that camp and I've basically let it go.
04:21It's not my, it's not my fight to fight.
04:23No, it's not mine either.
04:24I started the show by thinking, by just saying, let's, these things tend to, you know, if there's
04:30some unanswered questions, sometimes they, they can find the answer.
04:33And did this break while you were overseas?
04:34Yes.
04:35Oh, so you, this is your first real crack at it, so to speak.
04:38Okay.
04:38But okay.
04:39I'll tell you what I told Gu yesterday is like, I read the first two lines of the ESPN
04:44story.
04:44Kyle Shannon was an accident.
04:46It happened 11 days ago.
04:47That's weird.
04:49Like how does that?
04:51And there were people, there were a lot of people who knew and they knew that he was
04:57in an accident, but you didn't have the detail or you didn't have enough to like, to quote,
05:01go with it.
05:01Do we know how long he was in the hospital?
05:03I don't think that you made it sound like they knew right away.
05:05He left the same day.
05:06They didn't.
05:06Okay.
05:07Yeah.
05:07They didn't, they didn't know until at least my understanding, those I've talked to didn't
05:12know until like 48 hours before Camp Alton.
05:14Correct.
05:15That's already 10 days later or whatever.
05:17So nobody was holding the story.
05:19Right.
05:20But how do you explain Schefter?
05:21Because you didn't have the story.
05:22Um, I can't.
05:25And you're talking about like.
05:26So they announce it and then boom, Schefter drops a lengthy story on it.
05:31Sure.
05:31So he obviously had the story.
05:33The Niners gave it to him.
05:35Right.
05:35Or Shanahan's did.
05:37And he sat on it, which.
05:38Well, I don't know how long he sat on it.
05:40Clearly.
05:41I mean, I don't know.
05:41I don't know.
05:42I don't know either.
05:43You remember the old embargoed?
05:45Yes.
05:45This is embargoed until noon tomorrow.
05:47So they give you the story on a platter and you write it.
05:49And at noon the next day, embargoed basically means we give this to you, you hold it.
05:54Like somebody telling you that maybe they're not feeling great.
05:57At 12 o'clock you can go.
05:57Yeah.
05:58Let it go.
05:58I should have embargoed reports about me being in the hospital because that thing just came
06:03right out like a horse in an open barn.
06:05Chris Sims sat on it.
06:06Okay.
06:07Yeah.
06:07All right.
06:08Well, there we go.
06:08You know, whatever.
06:09Now, he started the show with that, Will.
06:12I can live with that one.
06:13Yeah.
06:13So can I because, A, he's not a journalist.
06:15And, B, if my best friend got into an accident and said, I don't want this out, 95.7, the
06:22game's going to need to eat that one.
06:23Right.
06:23Right.
06:23I'm going to go with my best friend.
06:25So he did that.
06:26And then I morphed it into, and I felt this way, riding in the caddy this morning, check
06:30engine light off.
06:31All good.
06:33Life happens, right?
06:34And things happen to us, and it makes, at least for me, you look at things and relationships
06:39and people differently after, let's just say, in this instance with Kyle, your life flashed
06:45before your eyes in this accident.
06:46You had what I have.
06:47So I just got to thinking, with everything that looks like it's happening over and over
06:52again, especially with Pearsall being out at the wide receiver position, and we had
06:56some discussion with you smiling, I just thought, Dibs, could Kyle look at that wreck, his
07:02life, lucky to be alive, and just say, you know what?
07:06Can I get Brandon on the phone, or can we, or can the wolf from Pulp Fiction get us all
07:11in a room, and we hash this out, and he play for us?
07:16Is that too far-fetched?
07:18And I thought Stiney was going to leave the room to get coffee.
07:20He was kind of, I don't know, Goo.
07:23Your thoughts?
07:24I said, I think it's more on Ayuk.
07:28Like, I believe if Ayuk went in and said, I made some big mistakes, I'm really sorry,
07:34oh my God, da-da-da.
07:35But he's not going to do that.
07:38He had every opportunity to make the sound and mature decision over the past whatever,
07:43so if I'm them, why would you want to roll the dice of, yeah, we're going to give you
07:47another chance, and then the same thing happens, and you actually come across as an as-boy,
07:53because he, I mean, he called you out, he drove by your facility, he's gone on and on,
07:58Kyle got in an accident.
07:59Now, that's the worst part.
08:00I don't know if you saw that post, and he basically made a mocking post right after.
08:04I think that's the worst thing he's done, I said it to him.
08:05Perhaps all the things, and then the commanders decide to go with a stable receiver, and it's
08:10Diggs.
08:11We're going to go with stability here.
08:12Who's had some drama.
08:14More than Ayuk.
08:15Yeah.
08:15Much more than Ayuk.
08:17So, Will, you're out, huh?
08:18I mean, I couldn't be further from you on this one.
08:22And you could be with the Niners.
08:23This is the hardest, most capital in Sharpie, flashing neon no that I could ever use in this
08:32conversation of this type.
08:34And you might be thinking like the Niners.
08:36The ship has so sailed, it's been around the world twice already.
08:39Right.
08:40I don't even know why they would want to do that.
08:42Like, first of all, let me say this.
08:44Because forget all the dramatic side of it.
08:46It's August 5th.
08:48That's a desperate move.
08:50They're not desperate.
08:51They don't have a game tomorrow.
08:53All of these dudes, I got a little quad.
08:55I got a...
08:56Mike Evans has been running full speed on the side.
08:58And I'm being so for real.
08:59Was Debo desperate?
09:00It sounds to me like they'd been talking for weeks, which would tell me that this was before
09:06Pearsall.
09:07I think they just wanted Debo back on a cheap.
09:10It's sort of like, I guess, why not?
09:11I don't know what role they've got planned for him.
09:14But why would I want this personality in the building?
09:18I mean, the 49ers have kind of made a thing of their locker room dynamic and the no knuckleheads.
09:25And it doesn't mean that there are no knuckleheads.
09:28But, like, wow.
09:30I think the door is shut.
09:32It is locked.
09:33And the key has been thrown in the ocean.
09:35You're not by yourself.
09:36But, yeah.
09:37Like, hell no.
09:39Under any circumstances.
09:40It makes no sense.
09:42And I think that the whole Debo thing was happening in the midst of Pearsall because
09:46they knew going back to last year, his injury, and they knew that they weren't going to pursue
09:50surgery, which is the normal course of action.
09:52But they also knew that this PCL sometimes doesn't just go away.
09:56So you get through the summer and you remember back at OTAs, we had, might have been Cam Inman
10:00told us that there were two days and he went to one of them.
10:03Pearsall played in one, didn't play in the other.
10:06Possible, like, lightly colored red flag.
10:09And then you get to camp and it goes the way it goes.
10:11And you already had Debo on the line.
10:13So then you just, you consummate.
10:15It's a consummation sensation.
10:16And now Debo's back.
10:18I mean, with Ayub, you need to take two to tango.
10:22And I don't know who's further away from tangoing.
10:27Seriously.
10:27I think they're both not interested in any kind of tango.
10:31And you know the tango is one of the closer dances when it comes to your torso and your face
10:37proximity.
10:38Yeah.
10:38So if it does take two to tango, and it does, one of them has the rose in their teeth
10:42and
10:43the other one's cheek is pressed up against them.
10:45Yeah, it's cheek to cheek.
10:45It is.
10:46If you're the right height.
10:47I'd like to lead and stuff.
10:48I'm a better dancer and stuff.
10:49Can I add real quick, too?
10:51Go ahead, baby.
10:52I listened to when you brought this up, the first time on the show.
10:56Well, you likened it to the Warriors when you said Draymond punched Jordan Poole and they
11:00were able to move forward.
11:02And what went through my head was, no, they didn't.
11:04They dumped him.
11:06They, like, I know you meant Draymond.
11:08Like, Draymond's still on the team.
11:10No, I meant for that season, they all got along.
11:13Oh, yeah.
11:14Actually, I don't think they got along.
11:15I don't think they did.
11:16No, no.
11:16They won zero road games the whole year.
11:18They hated each other.
11:19They remained together and played the season, which I hated.
11:23But that's what I meant by, you're right, Poole was gone.
11:25It had to be gone.
11:26I don't think they had a choice.
11:27They got through 82-game season, made the playoffs, lost to the Lakers.
11:30That's what I was referencing.
11:31I don't think they had much choice there.
11:33And then the first opportunity they had, they got rid of them in a terrible deal.
11:37So, you know, things like this break the back when it comes to, you know, the dynamic
11:43of a workplace or a team.
11:46You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGM, ZFM, and HD1 San Francisco, an Odyssey sports
11:52station, always live on the free Odyssey app, now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk studios.
11:57What else?
12:00I mean, there's four of us in here.
12:02What else?
12:02You're on your way golfing.
12:04Yeah.
12:04Nice.
12:05Enjoy that.
12:06Okay, it's beautiful.
12:06What's the weather like out?
12:07It's a mild, a little bit cooler, mild winds out of the west at about 17 miles an hour.
12:12That's nothing.
12:13For Karika.
12:13But by the time you get to that back nine, it's going to be a little bit windier as you
12:17get the marine layer starting to take hold on the coastline.
12:20Did you ever do weather?
12:21No, but I actually did an audition and you do the green screen and you stand in front
12:26of a green wall.
12:27And as you're, let's take a look at the North Bay and you turn to the side.
12:30As you turn to the side, there's a monitor that you're actually looking at that's showing
12:34you what everyone else is seeing.
12:36Right.
12:36So as you're gesturing to Petaluma and you turn back to camera and Rohnert Parks over here,
12:40you turn back to the monitor, then you click your button and now let's take a look at the
12:43South Bay and you walk over here, Morgan Hill, 82 with a low of 64, but you've got monitors
12:48you can actually see so you're not totally flying blind.
12:51Green screen.
12:52But no, I never did it.
12:54Didn't get the gig.
12:55On to Cincinnati.
12:56You hate to see it.
12:57I'm so random.
12:58Go ahead, Will.
12:58I have one for you.
13:00I can just remember she was younger, prettier, better outfits.
13:07Okay.
13:07Not as funny though.
13:08Okay.
13:09Waka waka.
13:10Hey, rainy season.
13:12Am I right?
13:12Weather is funny.
13:13It can be.
13:14Weather's hilarious.
13:15Not when it's like, you know, we got a high wind advisory and I'm like, oh, somebody must
13:18have broken wind at Ocean Beach.
13:20Am I right?
13:21Whatever.
13:22I can't remember her name, but she deserved the gig.
13:25Greg Cosell, 315.
13:26Yep.
13:27Oh, you got him today?
13:28Yeah, Cosell's season debut.
13:30Yep.
13:30Not hurt.
13:31Nope.
13:32And it's been quiet.
13:34I'm the center for Brock Purdy this offseason.
13:36When you say, I know it's early this off, but early in camp, it's a good thing.
13:40He looks good in camp.
13:41Yes, Donnie was like, that's the one thing you can count on right now.
13:44Sure.
13:45And I guess, yeah, he threw the ball well again today to whoever he was throwing it to.
13:49I do think we got to acknowledge that, you know, it's been a four or five year process
13:53with Purdy.
13:54He burst on the scene.
13:56He was good.
13:57Are we going to pay him?
13:58We pay him.
13:59Is he going to live up to the contract?
14:01You can feel the way you want, but he's got the contract.
14:04And now you look at this team and it's like, he's, we don't have to worry about quarterback.
14:11Now you might say, well, he's in the 15th best.
14:14I don't know what he is, but they've got a good quarterback and they've got, like all
14:21the other issues are significantly bigger than Brock Purdy at this point.
14:25I agree with that.
14:26He's like, I mean, he's like a sure thing, you know, you basically know what you're going
14:29to get out of him.
14:30I've always thought that the NFL at any given moment is two different leagues.
14:34And there's the teams that are in the, we got a quarterback division.
14:37And then there's the teams that are in the, we don't got a quarterback division and that's
14:41it.
14:41And you don't get to compete for a Superbowl unless you're one of the, we got a quarterback
14:45division teams and the 49ers are in that division.
14:48Doesn't mean they get the best quarterback, but they got a quarterback.
14:51So yeah, you, you'd like Sam Darnold won a Superbowl.
14:53Yeah.
14:54Yeah.
14:54They got a quarterback.
14:56One of the teams in the 49ers division does not have a quarterback.
14:58They're in the other division.
15:00Yep.
15:00And Purdy this year, his cap hit will be 23.7.
15:04So we all want to go shortcut radio and say, if he's making 53 million a year.
15:08Well, if he gets every penny over the life of the deal, then yes, but he's not going
15:13to in the last year of the deal, his cap hit is 64.5.
15:17The year before that, it's 71.8.
15:19The classic Niners move is he's still good.
15:22When you get to that point, you rip it up, you move the money and you stretch it out even
15:26longer.
15:26And the average annual goes down.
15:28So he's making 23.7 this year and he's going to be worth every penny.
15:32And if he gets dinged up, you get the best backup in football.
15:35That, that position to me is not an issue.
15:37Yeah, exactly.
15:37No doubt.
15:38Exactly.
15:39What is their biggest issue?
15:41I'm saying health.
15:43I mean, sure.
15:44Do you mean positionally?
15:46Well, I did mean positionally, but now I think Kyle Shanahan's open.
15:52Man.
15:52I mean, it's okay.
15:53Like, I'm not, concussions are weird.
15:57Yeah, for sure.
15:57So I'm not going to say that's not worrisome.
15:59He's got a while to go before week one.
16:01And I know you got a trail to.
16:03And he, I guess he did over 90% of practice today.
16:06Oh, okay.
16:07They're ramping him up.
16:08There's still a month to go.
16:09TK was brilliant with you guys talking about what he means at the practices.
16:13Sure.
16:13Breaking down to the, how he's a resource to the media on how Willard or Dibbs and everybody's doing.
16:18I was like, yeah.
16:19I was like, wow.
16:21Like, he's missed.
16:22But if you want to get into football talk, like rushing the passer.
16:25They have to rush the passer.
16:27Their whole defense has always been built on that.
16:29And they were the worst team in football at it last year.
16:31And Bosa's back.
16:32Bosa's back.
16:33They've signed.
16:34And if you have a last name that starts with O and it's long, you're on the Niners defensive line.
16:40That's a rule.
16:42So, yeah.
16:42They got a bunch of guys.
16:44And they'll, you know, they, Mike Hill Williams still on the pop list.
16:49Blah, blah, blah.
16:49They got to get them all back.
16:50But that's, you know, you got a new defensive coordinator.
16:52That's what they got to do better this year.
16:53To me, that's concern one.
16:54They were 20th last year in yards allowed in totality.
16:58And yet, you wound up 12 and 5.
17:00And you ask yourself, how in God's name did that happen?
17:03Well, I'll do a little bit of a deep dive here coming up at 2.15 to tell you, as
17:07it relates to the Mike Sando quarterback tiers,
17:09who they faced last year versus who they faced this year.
17:12A little bit of a different song and dance.
17:14We all talk schedule, Sam.
17:16But really, if you look at a defense last year that was still developing, they caught breaks in that way
17:22because of the quarterbacks that you faced,
17:24as opposed to this year's a little bit tougher.
17:26I believe that.
17:27What was your big takeaway on Zach Manazian, you guys' interview?
17:31I heard.
17:31Oh, I liked Zach yesterday.
17:33Okay.
17:33There were a few of them.
17:38One is I think he clearly, first of all, they like what they got back.
17:44But he's also like, you know, this sucks.
17:48This sucks.
17:49And now, how quickly can they compete again?
17:52You know, he kind of like, I think he topped the brakes a little bit on how quickly.
17:57He doesn't want to like over-promise, under-deliver, how quickly some of these guys can get to the major
18:03leagues.
18:04And then also said, they never even, this was an interesting one to me.
18:08I wanted to get an answer and see if he would do it definitively, and he did.
18:11He said, they never have even approached Matt Chapman and Willie Adamas about waiving their no-trade clause.
18:17He said, that wouldn't come until the end.
18:19And we've never even asked him.
18:21And I, like, to me, it's an interesting subject because we all want something to happen there.
18:27And it's like, they have the power.
18:31They can just say no.
18:32And they've never even asked him.
18:34So he says.
18:34And is Chapman out?
18:35Nothing's ever gotten that far.
18:37Right.
18:37Yeah.
18:37Is Chappie out for the year?
18:39I was telling Stiney, I heard the report you.
18:40Sounds like it.
18:41Yeah.
18:41I don't think you say that out loud unless it's probably going that way.
18:44He's getting a second opinion on whether or not he should have surgery.
18:47And if it's even close, it's August, you get the surgery.
18:50And this is not a PCL for Ricky Pearsall.
18:53You're not in it.
18:53And, you know, what do you really need to fight back to play for?
18:56You got, what, three more years on your deal with the Giants, I think?
18:59I think it's more.
19:00Yeah, if it was 3-75, it might be 4-100.
19:03I don't have it in front of me.
19:04But you've got nothing really to fight back for.
19:06It's your spot when you get healthy.
19:07That Adama, Willie's money, Adama, he's getting some 31-31-30.
19:13Man, that's a kick.
19:14And it's 4-more for Chappie.
19:164-more for Chappie.
19:17Yeah, and almost rather, especially with Schmidt out, it's like,
19:20use these innings to see other people.
19:22Osabi.
19:23Did I get it right?
19:24Basabi.
19:24Yeah, Bosabi.
19:25Pass to Bosabi.
19:26He was, I like him.
19:27That kid, that kid they got from.
19:29I tweeted him last night.
19:30I like Bosabi.
19:31I like him.
19:32Bosabi.
19:33Not Kimo-Sabi, Bosabi.
19:37Marcelo Meyer, the kid they got from Boston, he plays infield positions.
19:40As soon as he's healthy, I think he'll get a lot of those innings.
19:43That's the guy I kind of want to take a look at.
19:46Yeah.
19:46Because he seems to be somebody that.
19:47Big-time prospect.
19:48It's an interesting way you summed that up, though, from Zach Manassian
19:50to where you want to be really happy with what you got,
19:53but you realize that you can't be happy because you had to do what you had to do
19:57because you're so bad.
19:58So I was making this analogy earlier, Stiney, where you get divorced
20:02and you're going to sell the house, but you have an estate sale,
20:04and you make a nice little piece of change on all the crap that people came and bought.
20:09And so how was the estate sale?
20:10It was great, but deep down, you're getting divorced.
20:13It's going to cost you more.
20:14You've got to get rid of your house you've lived in for 22 years.
20:17Now you live in some dumpy one-room apartment because you can't afford it.
20:20But, yeah, the estate sale was great.
20:22That's dark.
20:24I was just like, I did not get it.
20:26Too soon?
20:26Yeah.
20:27Boy, I went with.
20:29Is anyone in the room not aware of what I'm talking about?
20:31If you spill something all over the floor, do you get credit for cleaning it up?
20:35Well, there you go.
20:36That's how I feel.
20:37Yes, that's how I feel.
20:39To me, I also can't say these guys are stone-cold lock prospects.
20:43No doubt.
20:44Of course not.
20:44But, to me, it's no different than a draft.
20:48I'm never going to get excited about people until they actually become real players.
20:53But the baseball people seem to think that the Giants did a good job.
20:58Coach, Keith Law.
20:59Keith Law, it's like what they did.
21:00No, their farm system is now a thing.
21:04You know, we'll see where that goes.
21:06And they got a bit of a mix of maybe later this year slash next year
21:09and then some 2028s and a couple 2029s.
21:12So, they did kind of stagger it.
21:14As opposed to your caller earlier who said, stifle.
21:17Yeah.
21:18He said, stifle, like 12 different times.
21:20How do they stifle it?
21:21How do they stifle the information?
21:22How do they stifle it?
21:23Maybe it's time for a little to get some coffee.
21:25I'm going to hit the road today because I'm a little bit early,
21:28but you guys are good with it, right?
21:29We'll survive.
21:30Yeah, because I mean, guy hasn't played golf in forever.
21:33Wait, wait.
21:33Guru, you can stay.
21:34I got to.
21:35Okay.
21:35Yeah.
21:36I appreciate it, guys.
21:36I'll give you four minutes tomorrow.
21:38Okay.
21:39Wow.
21:40So, we're going to 216 tomorrow.
21:42All right.
21:42There it is.
21:43I like it.
21:43Hit him straight.
21:44We got you.
21:45All right.
21:45You look like you had more thoughts.
21:48I'm not trying to start anything.
21:50But I know as a region, and I hate this, we're soft on college football.
21:55This could be the worst analogy.
21:56But last thing about the Kyle thing.
21:59Do you think from afar, the Bay Area media, and I'm not saying one person because I don't
22:03know, did we take a hit?
22:05I'm saying we.
22:06Did they take a hit by not being able to get to this story?
22:10I asked Donnie that.
22:11He said for sure.
22:12But I'm wondering, just from afar, you could be like, what's that mean?
22:14I don't care.
22:15But did the media here in the Bay take a hit by, what's going on out there, Dibs?
22:21How did you not?
22:21Or whomever.
22:22You know what I mean?
22:23Because we got a lot of people covering the team.
22:24From the outside, you could look at that and have that opinion.
22:27But if you look at the actual timeline of the information as it was released.
22:31So let's just say 48 hours before the Niners announced it, you find out that the coach was
22:37in an automobile accident.
22:38Kyle Shanahan was in a crash.
22:40Okay.
22:41You go ahead and investigate it.
22:42Well, there's no police report you can see because no one was cited.
22:45And you can check the database.
22:47Turns out that was entered incorrectly.
22:49So if you want to go with the story right when you hear about it on Thursday afternoon,
22:53and all you have is the intersection, the accident, and an unnamed 21-year-old female who may
23:00be at fault, well, most of what you have is wrong.
23:03So if you have any respectability as a journalist, and that's where I think the Bay Area really
23:08shines, you don't just go forward with it until you have the complete picture.
23:12I think there's a larger conversation about media in general.
23:16I don't really get into, you know, market rankings on this.
23:19I don't think any.
23:20It's funny because, okay, who took a hit?
23:23Right.
23:23And I don't know.
23:24I mean, Chris Sims is on a show, and I don't consider him a journalist, but that.
23:30But that's his buddy.
23:31That's family.
23:31That whole thing gets really muddy for people.
23:34You know, Adam Schefter knew.
23:37But we don't know when he knew.
23:39Right.
23:39But so why are we going to come down the road and Kawakami or Matt Barrows or Matt Mayoko
23:44if Adam Schefter, who is a newsbreaker, had as much information and also handled it a certain
23:53way?
23:53Is Donnie gone?
23:54Yeah.
23:54I kind of said during your warrior days, you covering the team every day, having relationships
23:59with these guys.
24:00Let's just say Mully got in a knock on wood.
24:02We know you did, Mully.
24:03You got in an accident, and you were privy to that.
24:06Would you have went against a grain or because you got a relationship and you guys, would
24:11you have held on to that?
24:13Of course I would have reported it.
24:15I don't believe him.
24:16So, Dibs, you know.
24:18But I can sign you in a car.
24:19Two interesting things about this one.
24:21Yeah.
24:21One, it happened during the dead period.
24:22So, reporters are on vacation.
24:25No one's sniffing around Santa Clara.
24:27And the other piece is it happened in his backyard.
24:30Tony Romo was not in his home market.
24:32Well, he's from Wisconsin, but I hear you.
24:34Tony Romo also got a DUI.
24:37My biggest issue with this is that when everyone talks about it, they still make it sound like
24:43there was a crime.
24:44Well, I got to be with you, man.
24:46Whether or not he should have been ticketed for reaching for a phone is a completely different
24:52conversation.
24:53And you're all hypocritical if you get high and mighty about that because there's not
24:57a one of us that hadn't done it.
24:59So, when you think he says the other domino's going to drop, he's assuming there's some pop-off
25:05going on.
25:05And I don't know that there isn't.
25:07I've just never understood why it sounds like that.
25:10You all sound like detectives who think that somebody robbed a bank and got away with it.
25:17Without saying that.
25:18A car accident happened.
25:19Yeah.
25:20And then, as soon as necessary, he came out.
25:23Because he was banged up.
25:24And tearfully called reporters to his office to tell everybody what happened.
25:29And people still get on that, like, well, yeah, dude, what's coming?
25:33Like, I don't subscribe to that.
25:35Police report was correct.
25:36People showed him grace.
25:38They had love for him.
25:39It got uploaded into a system incorrectly.
25:41As soon as everybody saw that, he called him.
25:44Where I'm coming from, Will, someone will say, well, I'm Mr. Nays.
25:47And we don't know if the police report's right, because they don't release it.
25:51Yes, we do.
25:51That has been reported numerous times.
25:54Police report is correct.
25:55Got uploaded into the CHP system incorrect.
25:59But what's in the police report?
26:02We have no idea.
26:03Because they don't have to release it, because nobody got cited.
26:06But they were going to cite her initially, according to reports.
26:09But we don't need to go back down this road.
26:12I'll be listening.
26:13I'll be listening.
