Willard and Dibs debate if the 49ers would consider welcoming back Brandon Aiyuk back after what's happened the last two years.
Transcript
00:00Chase Daniel was on with Kay Adams and he was very much like, hmm, Brandon Ayoub, huh?
00:08Chiefs? Hmm.
00:09I mean, it's pitch perfect for the Chiefs.
00:11Oh, yeah, they love.
00:13Like, you got a past?
00:15Yeah.
00:15Perfect.
00:16They love dotty dudes.
00:19They love it.
00:20People with dots all over their record.
00:22They love it.
00:23By the way, I want to be careful here.
00:25Brandon Ayoub didn't do anything illegal.
00:27Still, he's just been acting a fool for a really long time in what I personally believe is an important
00:36way in a team concept.
00:38So there have been, you know, I think the majority of 49er fans, and let's talk this out, 8 at
00:428, 9, 5, 7, 9, 5, 70.
00:44I think the majority of 49er fans are where you and I are.
00:47They're like, no.
00:48Like, no thanks.
00:49What are we talking about?
00:50But there are, there's a number of you that go, hey, if he can help us win, it's not like,
00:57you know, it's not like he did something illegal.
01:01Okay, let's focus on that for a second.
01:04Can he help you win?
01:05Even if you can get past all of the stuff, and I can't, and it sounds like you can't, and
01:11more importantly, it very much sounds like the 49ers can't.
01:14Why would that even be your assumption?
01:19Has not played a football game in over two years, then has spent more time dancing on Instagram than he
01:26has practicing.
01:28Like, he has clearly shown you that in addition to questions about the physical side of it, he is a
01:38live wire.
01:40However, there is, and I don't know if this is, a lot of people went to the realm of like,
01:44oh, this is a mental health crisis.
01:46You know what?
01:48I'm kind of starting to lean toward, this is disrespectful to people who are in a mental health crisis.
01:53Like, we're jumping to a conclusion that Brandon.
01:56I hate this.
01:57Yeah, that Brandon's, I don't know what's going on with him, and nor will we ever know.
02:02To me, this is one of the more offensive things.
02:04Yeah, it's like, where's accountability?
02:06Right, so from afar, we're going to diagnose somebody just based on their Instagram dance videos?
02:11Like, this guy, for two years now, has completely just thrown into the dirt his teammates, his company that made
02:21him a very rich man.
02:22He did all of these things.
02:25He has shown no contrition whatsoever.
02:28There's been no back and forth view of a mental health crisis.
02:32A lot of people, you just think he's having a mental health crisis because he's doing stuff that you wouldn't
02:36do.
02:37So you're like, that's weird.
02:38He's squandering hundreds of millions of dollars, or $80 million, or whatever the number is.
02:42So he must be crazy, because, God, how would you walk away from all that money?
02:46Or maybe he's just not a good dude.
02:49Like, I don't know the answer to that question, but I don't like assuming that this is a mental health
02:55crisis, particularly with the aggressive nature by which he has been going after the organization and some of its parts.
03:04So that's the way I look at it, but I am fascinated by how many look at a 49er offense
03:13that is, what are they, one in the league, two in the league?
03:16What are they?
03:17Depends on what you're looking at.
03:18They lead the league in DVOA.
03:20They're 6-1.
03:22They are the Super Bowl favorite.
03:25They've got a bunch of receivers coming back.
03:28And Niner fans, you seem so, like, a faction of you, so, so desperate that you're like, let's go get
03:39a guy who has not played football in two years and is coming off of a major injury,
03:44has acted ridiculous on social media for six months, and we're going to give him time and reps and plays
03:54that other receivers who are coming back from injury currently have been working their ass off with their heads adjusted
04:02for this team for months now.
04:05Like, why would you think that he can help you, and why would you trust him, even if he showed
04:11up and was, you know, acted the good way for a week?
04:14Why would you trust him?
04:15And even if you check both of those boxes, you still have a situation where you have a glut of
04:21receivers.
04:21Hopefully, if Evans and Debo are healthy and Greg Cosell raving about Demarcus Robinson as well, and then you get
04:28Dejan Stribbling eventually, what happens if you get into a spot and Ayuk is either not active or he's not
04:35getting the targets he wants?
04:36Is there any chance that he might again blow up the spot?
04:40I think the whole thing is a non-starter for so many reasons, and even if you were 4-3
04:46and you had the 19th ranked offense and you weren't getting receivers back,
04:51and you're in a spot where you need to start doing some things here or this season will be a
04:55waste,
04:56in that spot, I could understand it more because you aren't 6-1, you don't have the best offense in
05:03football, DVOA, which is advanced metrics, or yards per play.
05:07They're also number one, so there's not a need, the bridge has been burned, and you don't know how healthy
05:12he is.
05:13By the way, I kept saying he hasn't done anything illegal.
05:15Thank you for texting in.
05:16He does have outstanding warrants in the county as well.
05:21Now, it's a traffic thing, but still.
05:24Do you want to know what I think is the end-all, be-all here, though?
05:27I think your points makes, what you just said makes total sense.
05:30Let's take some calls on this, we will.
05:33But do you want to know what, to me, is the overwhelming end-all, be-all in this conversation,
05:38for those of you who think there should be an openness to the 49ers bringing back Brandon Ayuk?
05:44This looks to me like an awesome locker room, does it not?
05:46Does it look like an awesome locker room to you?
05:48Pretty solid, yeah.
05:49On the same page with each other, love each other, there for each other?
05:52Well, you've got a great group of vets that have been together for a long time.
05:55You've got some good, solid middle-age guys like Lenore and Purdy who are chipping in.
06:01In your last two draft classes, some are hurt, some are contributing, some are contributing while hurt.
06:06Your team is solid right now.
06:08Do you understand how disrespectful this is to them?
06:12It's just dangerous.
06:13Do you understand that now?
06:14Like, I'm Demarcus Robinson, or I'm Jordan Watkins.
06:20Hell, I'm Jacob Cowan.
06:22I'm Mike Evans, for God's sakes.
06:25We're, like, pounding our way through injuries.
06:28Debo Samuel, Dajon Stribling.
06:31Even the guys who've been brought in off the street, Brandon Cooks, etc.
06:36Christian Kirk, working his way back from it.
06:38All of these guys who have been doing all the right things and working their butts off to be a
06:44part of this team and be there for one another.
06:48You're going to bring this dude back, stick him in that locker room, and potentially move him ahead of some
06:54of those players?
06:56How do you think that that would land with the 49er players who are on the roster who've been working
07:01their ass off for months and months and months?
07:04So that's what I mean when I said what I said earlier, that all 49er fans should be offended by
07:10his behavior.
07:11I don't mean on a personal level.
07:13I don't mean you need to go home and make a voodoo doll or something like that.
07:17It's not about that.
07:18But if you're a 49er fan, if you're a fan of this team, and you're a fan of its parts,
07:24then you should be offended by the way this guy has treated that privilege.
07:32Like, $48 million to play seven games and then do nothing but play games on social media since then.
07:40Criticize everybody within the organization who made you a rich man.
07:43Make fun of a car accident.
07:45And now, now, four days before the trade deadline, you'd like to be reinstated.
07:53Yo!
07:56That's what I mean.
07:57Do you know how disrespectful that is to the people who play for the 49ers?
08:02Well, he's doing it so that he has a chance to play somewhere else.
08:05He's not doing this so that he can walk into the facility on Friday and say,
08:09Hey, everybody, hey, who's wearing number 11 now?
08:12Because that's kind of my number and stuff, and I'd like to have it back.
08:14He's doing this.
08:15He hires Drew Rosenhaus because somebody got to him and said,
08:19Hey, B.A., you've done what you've done, and, you know, it hasn't been great as far as you playing
08:23football again,
08:24but here's your road back.
08:26You hire the best agent in football.
08:28You get him in front of it, and we go about, you know, getting you reinstated.
08:32And after that, then the Niners, all of a sudden, the ball's in their court.
08:36What do you do now?
08:37Niners, well, you either cut or trade.
08:3999.9% chance that they do one of those two things,
08:42and if they do one of those two things, he gets to go play football if he actually wants to.
08:47You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ-FM at 821 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station,

09:13They've got great food and drinks.
09:15We'll have prizes there for you.
09:16Dibs and I will be there at 2.
09:17Come get a good seat.
09:19Get ready for 4 o'clock when the gang all shows up.
09:21It's brought to you by Ashby Lumber,
09:23your trusted building partner and Trex,
09:25performance-engineered for your life outdoors.
09:27Let's go to the phones after I respond to this text.
09:31925, why are you all making a bleep?
09:34No one wants Brandon.
09:35I would just like to welcome you to 95.7 The Game.
09:38You clearly haven't been listening to the shows all day.
09:42It's like tons of 49er fans have called in and been like,
09:46you know, we need a receiver.
09:48And again, I'll admit it's a minority,
09:51but there are 49er fans for sure who are like,
09:57come on, what if he comes in and apologizes?
10:00Which there's zero evidence, by the way,
10:04that Brandon feels like apologizing.
10:06The only thing he's done all year long
10:09is call out the Niners for their behavior.
10:12Called them creepy, called them predators.
10:15Little cat.
10:15Called them little-ass boys.
10:16He's, he, all of this, he has pointed the finger and-
10:22You mad because you're stupid.
10:24Yes.
10:25Oh, it's six and one.
10:26I mean, he was right about that.
10:28They were stupid to sign you.
10:30They're mad because they're stupid.
10:31Because they signed you.
10:32You're right.
10:33That could be part of it.
10:33It's the one that, he's right about that.
10:36And I am just fascinated by this whole idea
10:39of him having a warrant
10:40because as I was just reading somebody on Twitter,
10:43they said, oh yeah,
10:44so there's a warrant out for you going back to June.
10:47And well, now they know where to find you on Friday.
10:50So you could just see,
10:52and I'm not stereotyping all police officers in this way,
10:55but you know, the whole stereotype is police officers like donuts.
10:59And so you got a couple of cop cars down there at 49-49 Centennial,
11:03and they're just, you know-
11:04I love it.
11:05Chilling and get the pink boxes open on the trunk
11:07and eating a maple bar and Jim's over there with a chocolate passion.
11:12Steak out with a big old box of doughs.
11:14He's just chilling.
11:15I'm in.
11:15Let's go steak out Friday morning with some doughs.
11:18We're doing remotes all week here at 95.7 The Game.
11:21Let's go.
11:22Car pulls up.
11:23Out steps Brandon Ayuk.
11:25Jim, hold on a minute.
11:26Are you Brandon Ayuk?
11:28Yeah, little ass cops.
11:30Little ass boy.
11:31Come with us.
11:32You're under arrest.
11:35Raise him.
11:37Take him in.
11:38Forgot about that one.
11:40And didn't he make fun of Jaden Daniels' mom too?
11:43There was something.
11:44I think he called him a mama's boy essentially.
11:46Yeah, because he didn't want-
11:48I don't know why Jaden wouldn't want Brandon on his team.
11:51Seems like such an upstanding teammate.
11:54Stop being a little cat.
11:55Thanks, Brandon.
11:56Let's go to Chris in Berkeley.
11:57Hi, Chris.
11:58Thanks for the call.
12:00Hold on, guys.
12:01How you doing?
12:02What's up?
12:04All right.
12:04So, I hear what you're saying.
12:07You know, my biggest thing is, okay, if-
12:12If, and if ifs and buts were candies and nuts, every day would be Christmas, right?
12:17Ugh.
12:17But if, if they can handle this, right, inside the locker room, if, if Brandon does apologize,
12:27like, and this is just like contingent on like them even wanting to work things out, right?
12:32Let's say that does happen.
12:34Like, who the hell are we to say that he shouldn't be on the team?
12:39Like, it's obviously like a very, very personal issue they had, some, some personal, some business.
12:44We don't even really know at this point.
12:46But my whole point is, he's still, by all intents and purposes, an elite route runner, right?
12:53We don't know his, his health at this point, but from the last time we've seen him, he still had
13:00some juice to him, right?
13:01So, as an elite route runner at a premium position, we could use that.
13:06My, my whole problem is like, a lot of people are acting holier than now.
13:09Like, oh, like, but if, if they can forgive him, why can't we?
13:13So, Chris, can I put-
13:16Well, okay.
13:16I'm with that.
13:17I mean, if they can forgive him.
13:18Right.
13:18I think this is a great premise, but what, what if we countered with this, Chris?
13:22I have a sneaking suspicion that they can't.
13:26Did you hear George Kittle on the Pardon My Take Barstool podcast in June?
13:33This was only, what is that, four months ago?
13:37Four and a half months ago.
13:38Did you hear this?
13:39I, I did.
13:41Okay.
13:41I did.
13:42Chris, let's let everybody else hear it.
13:44And you tell me if George sounds like he would like an elite route runner back on the squad.
13:51The last time I saw a uke was, call it week six, seven, or eight.
13:55I don't really know.
13:56But, um, I used to make it a habit of mine to go out early in the morning before meetings
14:01to watch him train, because he'd always be out there early.
14:03And I watched him run over 22 miles an hour and stop on a dime.
14:06So, he's still got it.
14:08Or at least, you know, that was a year, I mean, eight months ago.
14:11So, I don't really know.
14:12But, um, yeah, you guys have fun with that, I guess.
14:15Yeah, thank you.
14:16That's perfectly put.
14:17I mean, have a lot of fun with that.
14:18Perfectly put.
14:19Still got it.
14:20Have fun with that, I guess.
14:20Yeah.
14:21Yeah.
14:21Yeah.
14:21You, you have fun with all that comes with it.
14:24Yeah.
14:24I mean, he seems like he's very active on social media, um, which, you know, that's a great
14:28way to connect with fans and brands and sponsors.
14:31Yeah.
14:32So, it seems like this, once he gets to us, then he'll finally be happy and every bad
14:37thing's going to go away.
14:38Yeah, you're right.
14:39I wouldn't be happy either after a team paid me $130 million.
14:42I know.
14:42That can be, well, the taxes in California, he's probably like, oh, oh, this sucks.
14:46I got so much tax.
14:47Yeah.
14:47More money, more problems, right?
14:49Yes.
14:50So, yeah, we'll take him, he'll make less money, and he'll be happier, and then he'll
14:54stop posting weird stuff on social media.
14:56That honestly sounds like a game plan.
14:58Okay.
14:58So, Chris, I'm going to accept your take, which is who are we to put our thoughts, our
15:04perspective in the heads of the 49ers?
15:07So, do you accept their thoughts?
15:10What does that sound like to you?
15:14As I said, this would be contingent on him fixing things in the locker room.
15:19I don't doubt that George felt like that, and probably maybe still does feel like that
15:22at the moment.
15:24But, fast forward to today, you're 6-1.
15:28You could really use another playmaker on the outside.
15:31Brandon comes in, puppy eyes, you know, with his hand out, saying, guys, I'm sorry, you
15:37know, for being a jackass.
15:38And, you know, George seems like a forgiving person.
15:42Yeah, see.
15:43He obviously wants to win a Super Bowl.
15:44He doesn't have any.
15:45It's funny, Chris.
15:46It's funny, because when you say that, you say we're 6-1, could really use another playmaker.
15:52I know where my mind goes.
15:54My mind goes, we're 6-1?
15:56We ain't screwing with this.
15:58This is not the time.
16:00The San Francisco, I know a lot of you want deadline activity.
16:04I do, too.
16:05I want the Niners to get better every single day.
16:07But, boy, oh, boy, this does not take chances time, in my opinion.
16:12You are 6-1.
16:13You are a badass in this league.
16:15I am not bringing in question marks that I've got to worry about now for the rest of the
16:21year.
16:22That's my take, and I think it's theirs, too.
16:24And I think that the forgiveness piece is more than just, oh, you know, you come in
16:29and you apologize, and, all right, we'll forgive you because we're forgiving people.
16:33The medical team, basically, the story is they had asked him to come back in rehab.
16:38That way they could work with him and, you know, watch the progress as he goes.
16:42He tore the ACL, MCL, and meniscus, and he's been rehabbing on his own.
16:48So, even if he can pass the physical, until you really know what's going on in that knee,
16:53it's too risky just from a physical standpoint.
16:55And the whole idea of elite route runner, he was an elite route runner.
17:00And the year that he got hurt, which was two years ago, he was not having a great year.
17:05I don't know if it was a fitness thing.
17:06And then he got hurt in week seven.
17:08So, for me, the risk is, put the personality and the apology aside,
17:13the biggest risk is he's about to be 29.
17:15How healthy is he?
17:17Well, and, again, George says even last year he's, quote, still got it.
17:21But, you know, what's the relevance of that?
17:24I have no idea.
17:26And, again, a lot of you contingent on Brandon coming in and being contrite.
17:31So, this is exactly four months ago on Instagram.
17:36The reason why the agent being fired is such an important detail in this whole story
17:42is because that agent is also the agent of the general manager for that one team.
17:49And that agent really started this whole s**t because I fired his ass,
17:54but he wanted to text my wife like he's smart.
17:56Don't ever text my wife.
17:58Your ass fired.
17:59Your ass grass.
17:59Get up out of here.
18:00Get going.
18:00Okay.
18:01Anyway, so he is also the agent for the general manager of that team.
18:08And these s**t is all weird.
18:10Weirdos.
18:11Creepy predators.
18:12I would never, ever, ever f**k with these s**ts.
18:15I would never, ever, ever f**k these s**ts.
18:19I don't care how long I got to wait to get to you, my baby,
18:22but if it involves f**king with them s**t first, I'm waiting.
18:26Sound like somebody who wants to come in and apologize?
18:29I'm thinking puppy dog eyes and a big old, you know,
18:32maybe a couple bouquets of flowers and a handwritten note.
18:35How many times did he say that he would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever?
18:41A lot of ever's, and he's referring to Brandon Williams, who was his agent and John's agent,
18:46and apparently his ass is grass, and so he got fired, and that was four months ago,
18:52and between then and now, now you've got Drew Rosenhaus as your agent?
18:56Listen, I don't want to discourage anybody from getting into a conversation with this.
19:00I really enjoyed, actually, that most recent call.
19:02We don't have to agree on this at all, but you are welcome to call in and talk this out,
19:08and if you have an openness to this, I just find you overly thirsty.
19:13Like, that's crazy.
19:14You want to win a Super Bowl that way?
19:17And I know some of you will not.
19:18You want to win a Super Bowl anyway.
19:20What if you don't win a Super Bowl unless you bring Brandon Ayuk back?
19:25I don't even know.
19:26Why would that be?
19:27Do you know what I mean?
19:28But you're saying you're thirsty, but ultimately, Niner fans are just thirsty for the title.
19:33Sure, sure.
19:35But, like, on what planet does he feel, look, and sound like the missing piece?
