Willard and Dibs join Guru and Evan (in for Steiny) on a Tuesday edition of the Crossover. The guys react to Draymond Green's new one-year contract with the Warriors, discuss Kyle Shanahan admitting blame in his car accident that caused serious injuries to him, and more.
Transcript
00:00I was just a pig in heaven.
00:01Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:08All right, it's time for the crossover brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:11Rest easy.
00:12We've got you covered.
00:13Bayalarm.com.
00:14Gettings in for Simon.
00:15It's alongside Daryl the Guru Johnson, Dan Dibby, Mark Willard.
00:18How's it going, fellas?
00:19What's up?
00:20What's going on?
00:21It's, you know, not used to this in late July.
00:24Like, oh, camp, you know, guys running around in shorts.
00:27That's kind of cool.
00:27And then the Draymond with the left.
00:29And then more Shani with the right.
00:31It's like, man, we are in, like, peak news mode.
00:34Yeah.
00:34And probably some Casey Schmidt later if he gets his MRI today.
00:38No, I've ever extended that thing.
00:39Yeah, so we'll find out.
00:40I hope that's all.
00:41And it might be a good thing because, obviously, he might not get traded, you know,
00:46because Casey's not getting traded.
00:49We know, but he was making the joke, yeah.
00:51This one you might want to get hurt if you don't want to get traded.
00:54I wonder if it changes anything for a rise, but probably not.
00:57Depending on how severe that would be, you know.
01:00One of Evan's worst takes.
01:01Remember last year was announced during the crossover.
01:03He was coming, and Evan and Grandy said, oh, baseball meant the war.
01:07This dude has been stellar.
01:09The principal still holds.
01:11The principal holds.
01:12But congrats on your bet.
01:13Dude, I was about to bring it up.
01:15Maybe that's why he's been so mean to me.
01:17Mike D put his foot down.
01:19I'm shocked.
01:20Did he?
01:22I thought he was getting multiple.
01:23As much as he could.
01:24Well, they could trade him now if something, if something, if he could have.
01:28Well, couldn't they have traded him before?
01:30Like, if he would have opted in, they could have traded him.
01:32Yep.
01:33Well, you know what?
01:35The obstacle there was the sign-in trade requires a three-year contract.
01:40But if he just would have opted in initially to the one-year deal,
01:44they could have traded him at that spot, you know,
01:46because it was a player option, and he doesn't have a no-trade.
01:50But that wouldn't have made it tougher to get LeBron?
01:52It would have made it impossible.
01:54And turns out it already was impossible.
01:56So I do think that Rich Paul sat down with Mike Dunleavy and said,
02:00my client's willing to opt out and take less if you get LeBron.
02:03If you don't get LeBron, he would like his $27 million-plus back.
02:07And Mike Dunleavy said, all right, that sounds fair, you know?
02:11Yeah, I think at the beginning of the offseason,
02:13his goal was to try and get multiple years.
02:16Or maybe it was a one-plus-one or something like that.
02:18Him and Rich Paul had to try to do that or thought they were getting that.
02:20That's why.
02:21I mean, it doesn't change anything from the grand scheme.
02:23They still have yet to add a player who didn't play for the Warriors last season,
02:26which is crazy.
02:27And now they won't.
02:28No.
02:28And that's the reality.
02:30It's like they are running this thing back.
02:32So it's – but I thought the reaction from fans today was interesting because –
02:36Well, what did you hear?
02:37Like, yeah, what have people been saying?
02:39Well, some people were split.
02:40Some people were like, how can you pay him $27.7 million?
02:42How can you bring him back in the first place?
02:44And I think we were on the same page that he was going to be back.
02:48I just feel like this is the best avenue for both sides where Draymond gets paid.
02:53The Warriors get to potentially use him for a deal this season if they'd like.
02:57If not, you could sign and trade him.
02:59You could bring him back at a lower number.
03:01You could walk away from him entirely.
03:03I think this is an avenue potentially off the Draymond Green freeway.
03:07And that's something we've never discussed since Draymond Green's been a member of the Warriors.
03:13Well, before you say a word, I don't know what you've been saying, but the text line is like,
03:17oh, Willard's going to come in hot because he got one year.
03:19So I've been like just waiting to ask what could they be talking about.
03:24I am?
03:24Well, the only thing I can think of is my takeaway to this today isn't really about Draymond.
03:29It's more about what this means for this season for the Golden State Warriors.
03:34And I came in yesterday and I said, you can't do nothing.
03:38And guess what?
03:40They're going to do nothing.
03:42Why do I feel like they put their foot down?
03:44Well, I mean, there's a scenario.
03:47I get where you're coming from.
03:48I don't know that that's reality yet.
03:51Because now Dib said he could have been traded had he opted.
03:53Yeah, yeah.
03:53I still think it's a figment of our imagination.
03:57Oh, man.
03:57Because we love drama and we've made this whole thing about the Warriors and Draymond
04:02and behind the scenes and are they playing, you know, poker with each other?
04:06I still think they've been working together all along and I think they'll continue to.
04:10I don't think their relationship is like that.
04:12So I think they were working together on this exactly like Dib said.
04:16And where this goes next after another season of information will continue to be the two of them working together.
04:22But they've got to reconvene.
04:23And I was just under the prism of, oh, they love Dre.
04:26Hey, he'll retire a warrior.
04:28Here goes a two or three like the other guys got.
04:31And I know it's different money, less money with Horford, Porzingis, and Melton.
04:34But for Dre to get the single, the Tracy McGrady, I'm like, could the end possibly be sooner than I
04:41thought?
04:41And I could be wrong.
04:43It might be.
04:44See, but I also look at last year and who had a better year, Steph or Draymond.
04:49And it was Draymond because he played basketball.
04:51And so we all want to throw dirt on the Draymond Green career.
04:55And he's not the same player he was, but he played 72 games, I think.
04:59And the chef played 43.
05:01And so Draymond signs the one-year deal and you play.
05:05And if things trend in the right direction, then you probably sign him for another one-year deal.
05:10If he is again healthy and, you know, Steph wants him back and all the rest of it.
05:14For a lot less.
05:15For a lot, lot, lot, lot, lot less.
05:17Sure.
05:18And I do think that that's the other piece of it with Steph Curry.
05:21If he doesn't sign the extension and he can in a month, he might just get into a spot where
05:26the year goes by.
05:27And you realize, you know what?
05:29I still have it.
05:30Draymond, you're still pretty good.
05:31And Chris Stapps is back and Al's back.
05:33Maybe Steph does take less money to get some help.
05:37Or in a month, Steph says, you know, I want every last dollar, which means I'm not that interested in
05:42winning.
05:43And the other piece would be, let me play this year out and just see where we are.
05:47And maybe I'll go play somewhere else.
05:49Yeah, I think it's, it's, it's on him now.
05:51You know, I, but what the deal did for me is it kind of took the ball out of Draymond's
05:55court, but the ball is still absolutely in Steph's.
05:58I think that's, that's the choice for him of if he wants to sign a one-year extension, two, if
06:03he'd rather play the year out.
06:05And what he, I think the biggest question is what he wants for the rest of his career.
06:09You know, does he want to compete for a title?
06:10Because to your point, by doing nothing, you're sort of telling him like, that's not really what we're focused on
06:16right now.
06:16Not this year.
06:17No, not this year.
06:18Yeah.
06:18I mean, you can, but even so you can sell them on the flexibility and we still got our picks
06:23and, you know, the actual will be a year better.
06:24But yeah, I was just looking at some of the great players and their last all NBA season, not named
06:31LeBron James.
06:32And you have Kareem, Karl Malone and Tim Duncan, all the, by the way, who are bigs, but their last
06:38year that they were at the quote peak of their powers was their age 38 season, which is Steph is
06:42currently in.
06:43And so, you know, it's not apples to apples, but like you're selling him on, Hey, be patient for a
06:48year.
06:48But also, historically speaking, this might be your last best year.
06:54So I think if you're Steph, and it sounds like he's patient, willing to be, he's a realist.
07:00But the only card that he can play to goose point is what he does with his decision in a
07:06month.
07:06I was interested in what you said very early on in the show with regard to kind of what Steph
07:14should do.
07:14And it sounded like you were insinuating that he should leave.
07:17Oh, no, no, that he should want to leave.
07:21No, I was saying maybe delay or table the contract talks, talks and finally do something that pressure.
07:27Yeah, that we we think the guy next door or the, you know, Mr. Presidential doesn't do because Kawakami said,
07:34I'm paraphrasing, you know, on his pod that Joe Lacob was talking about or they're focused on life after Steph.
07:41And Joe could never say that. But over the weekend, it came out on Twitter like he had said that.
07:47And I go, oh, if I'm Steph, I'm pissed off. So he didn't say that. He could be thinking it.
07:51But if I'm Steph, I would just we need some help. That's obvious. I need to take care of my
07:56runner's knee.
07:57I'm assuming that's taken care of like, hey, just let them know when the books reset and I'm finally here.
08:04Stiney would be proud of me. Forget this next year. It's hard for me to say that.
08:08But we get to the point where we get a black Amex card. We could go to the basketball Walmart
08:14or Nordstrom's and get you some help, Steph.
08:16Then we could judge Mike and Joe accordingly. Like, oh, we got the resources. Let's go see who's available and
08:23add.
08:24That's exciting to me. And I would hope Steph wouldn't be like, well, if he takes all the money to
08:29your point, dibs, then he's saying, hey, I'm a fat cat.
08:33We'll go out here and try to win. I'm getting some more bread. I'm cool.
08:37Or send a shot to the F.O. just saying, hey, we got to do better than what we've we've
08:42done.
08:42He may it may be two things at once, by the way.
08:46So if he doesn't sign an extension this year, it will be, I think, simultaneously pitched as he's putting pressure
08:53on the front office.
08:54But it's also he's giving the front office a bunch of flexibility or takes less money or takes no money
09:01for right now.
09:03Play it out. And then you get to the end of the year and he can be one of the
09:07free agents that they bring in.
09:09Who can they bring in around him? What is his number? Is there flexibility there?
09:14Well, he has to take it. And I'm not speaking for the man. We love him.
09:17But if you're truly trying to win and I've been fighting Evan all day and I ain't really been fighting
09:22not all day.
09:22The staff will take less money for that money to go into the kitty to get product.
09:27For who? For who? That's the million dollar question. Yeah.
09:29I mean, right. And I do think that if you're looking at this from Steph's standpoint and you're not going
09:35to take every dollar.
09:36Well, you go and wait and you see if Draymond can play another full year.
09:41Is Chris Dapps Porzingis somebody who can actually play 55 games?
09:45Does Jimmy Butler come back in late January and look pretty darn good?
09:49This year you mean. Right. So then you all these things happen.
09:52You're the 10 seed. You get knocked out in the play in again, whatever.
09:55But Draymond made it through. He comes back for less.
09:58Porzingis is already here. Steph takes less.
10:01Maybe Jimmy takes less and you're able to go out there and get a high price free agent of some
10:05sort.
10:06That's where I'm looking. So I think if he really wants to win, this year is not looking great.
10:10But then for me, you would not do your extension now and you just kind of see how the year
10:15plays out.
10:16Yeah, I think they'll come to an agreement also just because look, he does have runner's knee.
10:21There was a new normal. And I just feel like I hate that.
10:24Well, I just the new normal.
10:26I don't know if it's going to be wise for him to go into a lame duck season where it
10:30could be hurt without any financial security.
10:34Like, I mean, outside of him, you know, the hundreds of millions of dollars, maybe financial security is a green
10:39chip mark already for Steph.
10:41That's pretty good. Yeah. But, you know, I mean, you're talking about the future.
10:43I hear what you're saying. Yeah. I mean, that's a that's a roll of the dice that he can afford.
10:48Yes. Yes, he can. But to me, if you want if he if he wants to retire a warrior, there's
10:52no reason to roll that dice.
10:54Other than potentially that's where winning factors in, though.
10:58No, it they're they're they're the role of the dice is I could be hurt.
11:04Who cares? I've already got hundreds of millions of dollars.
11:07The the benefit is, let's say something does fall the Warriors way next offseason and they need Steph to take
11:1540 instead of 55 or whatever.
11:18And if that's helpful and you have that flexibility, then you can do that because it's the NBA.
11:23Once you sign it, that's it. You can't adjust it after you sign it.
11:27So I can see him doing that and I can see already the debate all year, all year long.
11:32Steph doesn't take his extension. And is that a positive or is it a negative?
11:37Is it him saying bleep you to the Warriors or is it him working with the Warriors?
11:41What would you do if you were Steph? Seriously, just right now, moving forward with everything that's not happened and
11:47with the possible extension.
11:48Like I'd want a PowerPoint plan. I'd have to know what the plan is.
11:52They don't really have one, though.
11:54Well, I'm sure they do, though. I'm sure that they like they're not.
11:58So there was a plan not to add, you think?
12:00Well, their plan seems like a blank canvas.
12:02Right. But shout out Tabula Ross.
12:04I'm sure. I mean, that one went over my head.
12:07Blank slate. Yeah, it's a philosophical construct.
12:10But go ahead. It's actually a game also that we have recently purchased in our home that we're having a
12:15whole lot of fun with.
12:17Blank slates. Oh, check it out.
12:19I will. Yeah. Fun for the whole family.
12:21Anyway, what would I do? I'm sure that that this is what these people do.
12:27They sit down and they're talking.
12:29Right. But you're talking with agents and you, I would hope, know, you know, who might be available.
12:35That part.
12:36Who's unhappy, who might want to come, who might not want to come.
12:40Like, I'm not saying they'll nail it.
12:42They had a plan this offseason. It didn't work.
12:45But they're going to try.
12:47Yeah.
12:47Yeah, because I don't want them to go anywhere at all, Mark.
12:51But for right now, I am still very much stuck on what this contract today means for this year.
12:58And it's a tough one.
13:01This is a hard one to navigate because the Warriors can rightfully say, what exactly did you want us to
13:06do?
13:07And a fan can rightfully say, not this.
13:11Like, this is not nothing.
13:14This is a hard pill to swallow, whether you can make sense of it or not.
13:19I just wonder, though.
13:20Okay, you were never were going to be in on LeBron James.
13:22You never were going to be in the conversation.
13:24And now you're into the offseason.
13:25Let's just play this out.
13:26What do you mean you were never going to be in?
13:27Because the Warriors weren't interested in LeBron.
13:29Let's just say that that was the way they navigated July.
13:31I just don't know what fans really wanted you to do.
13:35The Jimmy Butler contract at $56 million, you've got almost $70 million between him and Moses Moody.
13:40So you're already limited on what you can go out there and do.
13:44And I don't think that any really good team or a team that wants to win is taking your Jimmy
13:49Butler contract
13:49with the question mark of whether or not he'll play.
13:52So I think the LeBron move was about the only one that you could rightly pursue
13:57outside of these micro deals that you're probably facing now.
14:01Yes, it had the Warriors' name on it at that price.
14:03Okay, so let's play this out, for example.
14:06And I don't even know if you would have said yes.
14:08But if you're a Warrior fan today, would you rather Draymond just comes back and gets his 27-7
14:14and then offers you optionality and flexibility at the end of the year?
14:19Or would you rather they came back and said, actually, he's signed a new two-year $35 million deal.
14:26But that means this year he's only making $17.5 million.
14:31And with that $10 million that we have just been gifted in this process, we've signed DeMar DeRozan.
14:38That's the former.
14:40No, the latter.
14:41Okay.
14:41Absolutely the latter.
14:42That, to me, is a conversation.
14:44I would have been the former.
14:45I'm with the latter because I think that Draymond Green, he'll come back next year.
14:51I'm not going to say no matter what, but if he has a year like last year where he plays
14:55and he's still good on defense.
14:57And you said, one of you guys earlier said, yeah, Joe Lacob thinks of him as a son.
15:01Yeah, he said that a few years ago.
15:03Maybe a one-Jersey guy, maybe next year he comes back and makes $4 million.
15:07But I've thrown that out the window because now I've added what Dray shared with us
15:11and Tom Tolbert was talking about.
15:12Dray is getting harder to defend you publicly.
15:15Dray shared that.
15:16That's the coach.
15:17So if I look at you as a son, Joe does, all of a sudden the dad's being stingy in
15:22regard to Rich Paul.
15:24There's no way he opted out.
15:25And I'm starting to think it wasn't just all about LeBron.
15:28He wants that security and probably would have took two for $40 instead of one for $27.5.
15:33Didn't know my team is telling me I'm coming back on one year.
15:38Y'all going to do me like that?
15:39And to me, in my world, they did them like that.
15:43Oh, I don't say it that way at all.
15:44I don't either, yeah.
15:45So you think Dray's at the house popping bubbly like I'm coming back for $27.5.
15:49Right, and then next year he can go play for Philly.
15:52Or they can trade you and you don't get to next year.
15:54Go, you're Draymond Green.
15:55Has this guy ever held back vocally?
15:58I totally got it.
15:59All right, so if the Warriors played him like that and he didn't like, you don't think this would be
16:04on the podcast already?
16:06All he said last week was the Warriors have never, not once, mistreated me for one minute.
16:13You're right.
16:14That's what he said.
16:15But why do I feel like the first brick has been laid?
16:18I don't know.
16:19Because I don't.
16:20Because we haven't heard him talk after this announcement.
16:23You think this is what he wanted?
16:23No way.
16:24No, I don't think that there was ever any other option on the table.
16:28I think this was.
16:29No multiple deal.
16:30No.
16:31If LeBron comes, then yes.
16:33Yes.
16:33If not, then.
16:34But how offensive is that if that were the same?
16:38Offensive.
16:39Offensive would be.
16:40You help us land LeBron, we'll give you more than one year.
16:43I think offensive would have been he opts out, you don't land LeBron, and you go, eh, one for 8
16:48.25.
16:488.25.
16:49We've wrapped up.
16:50Yeah.
16:51And that's why the 27.5 is we did right by you.
16:53No, this is like his best friend.
16:56I'm going to opt out, see if we can get him.
16:58If we get him, that changes the calculus for right now.
17:01I don't think he's happy, Will.
17:02I think if he was still the defensive player he was, he would have got a multi-year contract.
17:06No doubt.
17:06And I think that's why he opted out.
17:07No doubt.
17:08I also think that Draymond Green.
17:11Be a free agent.
17:11No, but he's a bet on yourself guy.
17:13And so if he was offered two and 34, 17 million a year, or one for 27 and a half,
17:20you're taking
17:20the one because you're Draymond Green and you think that you are going to be able to go
17:25out and get more than 10 next year.
17:27And maybe you, you have optionality.
17:29If you're a free agent, you can go play with LeBron in Philly.
17:31Because this 27-5 wasn't coming from anybody else, any other team, right?
17:35Of course not.
17:35But the Warriors knew that that was owed to him.
17:38Like, he had the option to have that.
17:40He gave that up so that the Warriors could put out a good faith effort.
17:45It didn't work.
17:45He gave it right back to him.
17:47Like, this to me, this reeks of what has always been the case, which is the Warriors
17:51and Draymond are on the same page with each other.
17:54Might not be with the fan base.
17:55Wow.
17:56I don't see it the way you guys see it at all.
17:58That's incredible.
17:59Like, this whole idea that the Warriors and Draymond.
18:02Like, I'm giving Mike D love for standing up to him.
18:04This whole playing poker thing.
18:06Like, I'm not saying you're wrong.
18:08I'm just saying I see it different.
18:09That's incredible, man.
18:10I see zero evidence of these two playing high-stakes poker with one another.
18:15He even said on his pod the other day, he's like, yeah, this has not gotten contentious at all.
18:19I don't know the exact words.
18:21I see this as a group that sits around a round table with red wine and says, this is how
18:26we play this out.
18:28And we'll continue to.
18:29I guess my question would be why.
18:31Because next year, he's not getting 27-5.
18:33We know that.
18:34Right.
18:34Okay.
18:35Which is why the Warriors, like, they're not, neither side let the other side put them in a bad spot.
18:41Draymond had an option.
18:42No, but he could be in a better spot.
18:45If it was all love and you're going to retire here.
18:48But how would he be put in a better spot?
18:50Yeah, that's not putting him in a worse spot.
18:52He's going to get two years and $35 million?
18:54No, the security of no one, we don't got to sit down and go through this again.
18:57Again, security is a funny word to use for these guys.
19:00They're secure.
19:01Their legacy is secure.
19:03Their money is secure.
19:04What about the no trade clause then?
19:05I mean, that was an option for him.
19:07He could have had that.
19:08He could have been his eligible on that.
19:09I want to give it to him.
19:10Warriors, yeah.
19:11But he didn't have that before, so he doesn't have it now.
19:13Aren't there only three of those in the entire association?
19:16Yeah, but I'm saying if it was all love and it's, hey, Dre, you know, we want to do this
19:19a year at a time and we want you to retire a warrior.
19:21Here's your money and then we'll renegotiate down the line.
19:24It seems like there would be more of a good faith effort by Golden State outside of, well,
19:27here's your money back.
19:28Well, they've never shopped him.
19:29I think that, well, that's a four.
19:33I think you guys are changing the conversation.
19:35I'm not saying that the Warriors, they didn't have to go into this situation and say, we will
19:42give you more.
19:43All the Warriors did is say, we will secure what you've already secured.
19:47Yeah.
19:48And he said, fine.
19:49But I thought it too.
19:50Again, I'm wrong.
19:51Shocker, two for 50 was coming and you're our guy.
19:54You're going to be here.
19:55Evan fought me on that.
19:56Like, that was too much.
19:57But I guess you're seeing that as Mike Dunleavy putting his foot down.
20:01And I'm seeing that as Mike Dunleavy just not offering more than he had to right now.
20:06Why would you?
20:07And so I get what you guys are saying from that standpoint.
20:10I don't think this is just like, hey, Draymond, we want you to retire a Warrior at all costs.
20:15You're listening.
20:16You know?
20:17I'm sorry.
20:17Go ahead.
20:17No, you're good.
20:18You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KJMZFM, NH21 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station.
20:21Always live on the free Odyssey app.
20:23And now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk Studios.
20:25Gu, I'm only going to do this just because you gave me some flack at the beginning of the crossover.
20:30You're my guy.
20:31You're going to have to walk back the IU comments from earlier because he just posted on Instagram.
20:36Oh, my.
20:36You've got to be kidding.
20:38What were your comments?
20:39What were your comments?
20:40He congratulated IU for not taking the bait on the couch.
20:44And not making fun of Kyle now that he's okay because I thought Brandon was really crashing out.
20:49And I swear an hour ago I said, I'm happy that he just, he's been quiet and he didn't fall
20:56for the bait.
20:56Don't tell me he put up a video about Kyle.
20:59What's the bait?
21:00You know, he was making fun of Kyle for getting in a car accident, which he did because he posted
21:06on Instagram.
21:07You can't win the race if you crash out.
21:11Okay.
21:12See, you know what?
21:14You know what?
21:14Let me finally say it.
21:15Hey, bleep you, dude.
21:17No, no, no, no, no, no.
21:18Let me say it so you all hear it.
21:20No, say it.
21:20Bleep you, dude.
21:23The manager screwed up sideways for signing you in the first place.
21:26I'm going to let you have it.
21:28And this is the man who ran up the stairs to get you the deal.
21:31If you want to ruin your own career, ruin your own career.
21:36I think we're past that man with that.
21:36Now you're being an a-hole and bleep you.
21:39Evan, wow.
21:40Bleep you.
21:40I just gave him love for being mature.
21:43I hope his career is over.
21:44Screw him.
21:45Well, that might be the nail if one already wasn't there.
21:49You can't do that.
21:51That's gross.
21:52Classless.
21:52Be on classless.
21:53I mean, that's gross.
21:55And Kyle broke multiple ribs, 40 stitches, almost lost his eye.
22:00Probably a grade two or three concussion.
22:02I haven't seen the film.
22:04That's a lot.
22:05It's a lot.
22:06And he's lucky to be here at the other parties.
22:08I mean that.
22:09Yeah, I mean, whatever.
22:11That's just enough said about Brandon Ayuk for the rest of my life.
22:14What about the story now on to Kyle?
22:17I kind of told Evan, I feel like it's dying down now that he said, you know, I was at
22:21fault.
22:22Yada, yada, yada.
22:23I was on the phone.
22:24You feel like it's going away or you feel like it's growing?
22:28I feel like it's kind of unfair because it just happened to you.
22:30I think it's turning down, but there's two pieces to this.
22:32I think most people are like, look, that was a stand-up thing to do.
22:36Obviously, he made a huge mistake.
22:38I'm not going to wag my finger at him.
22:41We all do it.
22:42I just said it.
22:43None of us are perfect with the phone and the car.
22:46There's a stand-up guy for doing it, but I do think there are a lot of people out there
22:50who still have a lot of questions.
22:54But it's not Kyle's fault.
22:57What's not Kyle's fault?
22:58The questions are how.
22:59Let's just say somebody was trying to do him a solid.
23:02That's not Kyle.
23:04I don't really have these questions, but I understand if you're like, okay, this has
23:08been two weeks, and now we've got an erroneous report, and why did this all play out the
23:18way that it did?
23:19And so it makes people wonder if something is being covered up.
23:23I don't really see it that way, and maybe it's because police reports are fresh in my
23:28mind, and good Lord, I can see how this whole thing between insurance companies and multiple
23:34police outlets, and they get screwed up.
23:36Because yesterday, it wasn't his fault.
23:38Well, yesterday, we didn't know whose fault it was.
23:41We didn't hear our fault until this morning.
23:44That article just came out this morning that said it was the other driver's fault.
23:49Well, it was in the database.
23:50Yeah.
23:51Right.
23:51Right.
23:51It was public record.
23:52And Saturday, it was from the Palo Alto police.
23:56We're not going to, it wasn't his fault, and we're not going to release any more details
24:00about this matter.
24:01Right.
24:01Open, shut, close it up, we're done.
24:04Well, turns out this database, I didn't even know about, and I'm a traffic nerd, and
24:08so that comes out, and the more I've been thinking about it, and Mark's talking about
24:12me when you say there's people who have questions.
24:15No, it's not just you.
24:16Yeah.
24:16Correct.
24:17One thing that is just dawning on me is he was driving a Tesla, and those Teslas have
24:22cameras, they've got a black box, they've got all these other things, so has Palo Alto
24:29PD acquired that black box?
24:32Are we looking at the data?
24:33Have we looked at the camera footage?
24:36If you did all those things, then you would see that it was, in fact, his fault over the
24:41last 12 days if you took those steps to look at the Tesla's black box.
24:45Well, you can look at it that way, or you can take the words of the two people in the
24:51accident, and if it's consistent with what happened with the vehicles, there would be
24:55no reason to do all of that, and it simply could have been the wrong box got checked with
25:00an X.
25:01Who's at fault?
25:02X that driver.
25:03Whoops, wrong one.
25:04Like, that happens all the time.
25:07So, I...
25:08I have a hard time with that, but...
25:09That's fine.
25:10You can have a hard time with that.
25:11I can bring you the police report from my accident four weeks ago and show you all the
25:15mistakes that are on it.
25:17There's a time.
25:17And the right on the table is the cover-up, but if there were no drugs and alcohol, what's
25:21the cover-up?
25:21I have no idea.
25:22That's why I'm like, he said he was at fault.
25:24Evan, I give him...
25:25He said he was on the phone.
25:26That should be it.
25:27Well, they said he was on the phone, and then he said he was trying to fish out his
25:31phone, so...
25:32Yeah.
25:32I don't know why I take that as the same.
25:34Yeah, I do.
25:35Well, either way, he's clearly trying to make it go away, and it's understandable.
25:39He was involved.
25:40He was hurt.
25:41The other person, fortunately, was safe, so that's all well and good, but I do think that
25:46when you refute a police report, it invites question.
25:52Just like the way that...
25:53Of course, but Kyle didn't do that is my point.
25:53But just the way they handled the entire thing has invited question.
25:57At first, it was something that was seemingly small, but then they made it big, and now
26:01you realize it's a little bigger than we thought, and actually different than we thought, and
26:05it just...
26:06I think it is going away, too, Mark, but I still, like a lot of people, are just kind
26:11of wondering, hmm, like, that's a little strange.
26:13Like, it's not that it's not a little strange, but I also think, like, you have to remember,
26:17I'm trying to put my mind in, like, I think most of us have probably been in some sort
26:21of...
26:22Never forget mine.
26:23...vehicular moment, right?
26:24And what happens immediately?
26:26Shock.
26:26Immediately, everyone, if you can, you get out of your car, you alert the authorities,
26:32they show up, and as quickly as possible, they survey the scene, and then they start
26:36asking you, okay, what happened here?
26:38And then they're going to pull the other person aside, right?
26:40Out of earshot.
26:41Okay, what happened to you?
26:42Do these two things match up?
26:44Well, in this particular case, you got a man who's bleeding from the face.
26:48So...
26:49He's got to go in.
26:49That's right.
26:50So that, to me, now that's a completely different set of circumstances where there's going to
26:56be chaos, confusion, lag time, all of that.
27:00But at the end, if the two drivers are both telling the exact same story, I don't, like,
27:07I feel like everyone wanted this alarm to go off.
27:10Well, we don't know what the other story is because we haven't heard from the young lady.
27:14Well, but she's obviously felt no need to go refute anything that's been out there until
27:19the minute there was...
27:20I can't put myself into her feelings.
27:22Well...
27:22Maybe she was instructed not to do so.
27:24Maybe.
27:24But that's a little bit of a conspiracy theory.
27:27It happens at 6 o'clock on a Tuesday, and we all have phones with cameras, and yet somehow
27:32nobody was, like, snapping a pic of this accident and putting that out there.
27:36Why would they do that?
27:37That's what we do.
27:38But how would you know that it's Kyle Shanahan in there bleeding from the face?
27:41You may not even know, but you'd take a picture because it's a car crash, and, like, that's
27:45the old expression, so...
27:46But why would anybody think to do anything with that picture?
27:49Because it's a heinous accident, and you're like, oh, my God, I just saw this, or I just
27:54came upon this, and you have the picture, and then 12 days later, you find out it's Kyle
27:58Shanahan, and it's like, wow, I actually have that picture.
28:01Great, and that tells what story?
28:03Like, there was an accident, everybody...
28:05Right, I mean, it would at least indicate the severity and...
28:08I mean, what is it that's making you think everything isn't above board here?
28:14Because the Palo Alto PD comes out on Saturday when it gets released and said, she's at fault,
28:20no more details, and that's going to do it.
28:22No, there was no drugs, no alcohol, and put that into a nice, tidy little package, it's
28:26over.
28:27I never heard on Saturday that she was at fault.
28:30I never heard that.
28:31At fault, to me, first I heard, was this morning.
28:35And the second it came out, Kyle called everybody into his office to say, that's wrong, it was
28:40on me.
28:41So, like, what's the big, like...
28:44Y'all sure are going to hash it out.
28:45What's the big hidden thing?
28:47Don't know, I'm not going to speculate.
28:48Well, I just, I don't even see a reason to think there is one.
28:51I just look at...
28:52Everyone's admitting exactly what happened.
28:54I look at a vehicle that has recording capabilities, and 12 days later, you don't, like, if you
29:00had that, if you have a Tesla involved in an accident, and, you know, his story, her
29:04story, whatever, let's just take a look at the camera, and let's see how fast he was
29:08going.
29:08If the stories match up, why would you go after him?
29:10But you don't know if the stories match up.
29:12You don't know that they don't.
29:13You're speculating.
29:13I do know that the vehicle has actual evidentiary things that you can look at.
29:19And nobody would, a police officer would not think to look at that, unless they're getting
29:24stories that don't match.
29:26Disagree.
29:26Disagree.
29:27I agree, but...
29:31Officer Dibley, next, everyone.
